What do you need help with Ithi?

Its odds and duration and stuff. I have a Clue Game starting soon and I need to figure out how many guesses to let each person have each day. Too many and the game will end too quick, too few and it will drag on and on and on.

 

So ... There are 10 Suspects, 10 locations, 10 weapons. 1 of each of these has been selected and hidden away. The remainder has been equally-ish distributed between the 6 witnesses.

 

Players will be allowed to ask a witness whether a certain Suspect, location and weapon are involved - they will either be shown one card - or no cards at all, depending on what information the Witness holds.

 

How many times will they need to question all the suspects before they can work out the answer?

You won't get a definite answer because it all hinges on the probability that the person being asked has the card being asked for. But I can give you an approximation using probabilities.

I'm thinking 2 would be right - but even that might take too long. Of course people also gather information from other people's guesses too - as it will be stated whether they were shown a card or not.

Also there will be 3 leftover cards after taking away three and distributing evenly. Are these just going to be shown to everyone or are 3 people going to get 5 cards and three of them get 4 cards

Oh my goodness.... I've only played that a couple of times; it's fun, but it's really hard for me to figure that stuff out. XD I stink at it.

 

I like algebra, but that's it as far as math goes. And logic...it's fun, but it's so hard. Medium-hard sudoku is about as much as I can do with logic. XD

Nobody gets to see any cards at the begining. This is an online game. Players will have to question the witnesses to get information - and the witnesses are just pretend people - it will be the Game Mods that actually do all the card showing.

I just can't deal with random/probabilities/statistic in my head. It's too ephemeral. That's why I was excellent at Maths till I got to A level and it all went pure and theoretical. I just can't build the problems up and keep it all from collapsing in a total bag of mess.

If everybody is going to be shown everyone else's guesses 2 should be fine Ithi.

 

The chance of the witness having at least one of the asked-for things is 1 in 3. 81 guesses to get all items held by witnesses. Divided by 12 (6 people with 2 guesses) = 6.75 days.

Oh! And in the online version does it just rotate until the person asking the question receives/sees a card or do they have to ask specific people?
