I think that's rather weak, Tom. Do you think RJ prepared an entire world, with all these different cultures and specific details on each country, but forgot to plan the Blight so that it's consistent with the story? I'm positively sure that part of his world was planed in advance.

Now Travelling, you might be right there. Might, I say, so don't go quoting me now

Well, you have a mainly ice-filled tundra supporting a society of millions with no significant infrastructure. Unless the city builder and farmer Trollocs haven't been mentioned yet, there just aren't the resources to support the population. I just don't see how the Blight and north of the Blight can have that many of them. Given that they're there, the rationale as to how they managed to be there despite this is a very relevant question.

The Blight is unnaturally hot. It's not ice filled tundra at all.

Indeed. From the description in tEotW, I think it's a huge area covered with dripping fungus fueled by the Dark One's taint.

So really, the trollocs don't /have/ to farm. The Dark One's taint grows icky fungus for them to eat. And then of course they tend to devour each other for meat, 'cause they're like that.

I also agree that the many extra trollocs are coming from 'farming' the other probable dimensions or even just other dimensions (see dimension post on Loials prologue thread). This does seem like an easy solution to the problem, I agree. Which is exactly why I like it.

Using the alternate dimensions and portal stones as invisible bases to attack and supply from seems like fantastic strategy to me. Its a bit sad that Rand hasn't seemed to even contemplate this as a possibility. How else can they get round the 'can't use gateways' problem without feeding machin shin? (perhaps TP gateways?)

While this is an easy solution, I also think this is a clean one, in the sense that we have seen these worlds (or there are hints at least for other accessible dimensions via the power e.g. the finns) and we know they can be accessed from the normal Wot dimension.

I've not commented in this thread yet so I just want to say this PoV was one of my absolute favorite so far. Seriously. Everything about it was awesome for me. If Apples First weren't so awesome, this might be my favorite scene of the released material so far.

But it's not a place where you can grow a lot of food to feed a population of that size nor is the Mountains of Dhoom. North of it is the Blasted Lands, which have the same problem. There's no map of north of that, but when Demandred was at Shayol Ghul in LoC, he said that to the north of it was ice-filled tundra.

There's just nowhere up there that can sustain a population of the size that's coming south from the Blight.

Agreed. I was saying that I believe RJ knew exactly how they managed to do it the day that TEoTW came out.

OK, I can accept that. Portal Stones and the like were part of the series since the beginning.

They had a brief mention of blightstrain crops at some point. I assumed they were specifically designed by Aginor to exist in the Blight and that he perhaps also designed a type of shadowspawn to work it.

But I'm kinda reaching on that I know.

Well here is what we know for sure.

From RJ, the blight isnt in the "normal universe"

And Brandon has said that the DO has access to more Trollocs than the Blight can support.

(If you want the quotes, look it up on Theoryland Interview Database)

So its quite obvious that Trolloc's are being spawned from somewhere OTHER than the blight.

Where and how is the question, I have no idea.

I recall the blightstrain crops around Moridins tower, though I wasn't certain who they were for. Perhaps for a standing army of humans/dreadlords? If trollocs can survive (I guess they could) on vegetation then it could be for them. It's good to keep some forces around you in a world with Travelling even if more are just a gateway or portal stone away.

I just read this Scene last night.

and all I can say is WOW. It was awesome.

I'm just sad that Rand hasn't sent some Ashamen to the Blight to help control the Trolloc Hords.

I can't wait to see someone like Narishma up there Kicking Ass.

He did send Ashaman there, under Ituralde. Ituralde is using them to scout the Blight-border. The Trollocs in the Prologue were the vanguard of the Shadow army. Ituralde will know about them shortly, I'm sure.

I really don't expect any ass-kicking at this point... I think Ituralde is going to get his forces beaten up pretty bad, I'm just not sure how yet.
