Sometimes, for fun, I include Aware Mafioso without actually including an Ambitious mafioso; once I made the entire mafia team Aware, and nobody Ambitious

Please share as to how that turned out. I sense a funny story here.

I may have more roles to add after my tarot game, if I like the new ones.

You know how my mind works with the roles AJ  :D

Post in our QT :P

Don't know if these are already in existence but:

Sacrifice: The player gets to view the coroner's report of everyone who dies before they die (excluding Mod kills of course) and can choose to sacrifice themself and die in someone's place.  One time ability, obviously.  (Not exactly the nicest individual role, but can be useful for the team. :P)

Soulsearcher: A mafia player who each Night has a chance (percentages can vary according to Mod's wishes) to convert to the town.

And then you die. :P

It doesn't seem like it would be useful otherwise.

That was actually gonna be the one aspect of my Mistborn mafia game that would make no sense at all. :D

Yea, that is what the Martyr does. They sacrifice themselves for someone who is up for a lynch. I like the idea of making it so that they can see the Coroner Report first.

Like a Mason Recruiter? :P

lol. Yea, the NK would be harder to do, because if they don't know who is being killed....

*shrugs*

I have tried that approach.

Sounds like someone has caught the addiction

...Er, what's that?  >.>

Why wouldn't they know he's being killed?.....

Oh, it was amazing - any time one scum member voted for another, everyone PM'd me (separately) going "I knew it, XYZ is ambitious!"  Then they voted for that player (to save the team) and the rest of the team went "@#&^! it's not XYZ!  It's ABC!"

If you're going to do that to a mafia team, you'd better not overpower the town, since it makes it much harder for the scum to coordinate effectively (since they don't trust each other)

Mafia converting to town is a horrible, horrible idea.  It essentially kills the game, since they now have to out their teammates, and know who the scum is.

Not if he was brainwashed. :D

But yeah, it could only be used if the Soulsearcher knew, at most, one of the mafia.

Think of the mechanics of that.  You'd have to tell that one person that the other might flip to town at some point - at which point the rest of the mafia would just lead a lynch on the "soulsearcher" to burnish their scumhunting credibility.  It's a throwaway role - good in the abstract, but absolutely wrecks the game mechanics.  (Not to be mean, but JMO)

Sometimes people go so role-crazy that they forget what mafia is about (Mynd's heroes game on Myndjack was one example of that - it wasn't mafia so much as "figure out the series of moves you need to make to be able to kill the players you know are scum")

i agree with kiv on this.  its the same problem you run into when you have a recruiting ability with multiple teams (ie more than one scum or scum & masons)

keeping a player from using the advantage to win the game when they're scum and turn town is hard to manage from the mod aspect.  to many ways it can go bad, because there is a team involved.

the only thing i can think of is just to switch alignments, or maybe make them a usurper with a solo win condition.  that way their role sympathizes with the town and benifits the town, yet you don't have to worry about them leading a witch hunt and outing the entire scum team

Okay so I can say firsthand that modding multiple recruiters can be.....odd.

:D

Roles I used: (Not necessarily new)

Psychic - Each night requests a role(ie Healer, Cop, etc) and is given five names(4 random, 1 correct).

Martyr - Takes the hit if their counterpart is targetd for NK.

Boobytrap/Minesweeper - In this scenario, the Cult(after losing recruitment abilities) went into backup role.  Each night they could boobytrap someone, so that if that person was targeted for any night action, the one targeting would be blown up.  The Minesweeper could pick two people per night to 'sweep'.  If they picked the boobytrapped person, then the bomb was diffused.  Unfortunately, in the game I used this, the two cult and the sweeper were Lynched/NK'd back to back to back in one daynight cycle.  So not much feedback.  There was time for one mine(successfully difused) before that though.

the Martyr is one that Ed and I vamped up a while back.

i've used the role in 2 games now, i don't knwo how many Ed has used it in :)

Martyr - chooses one person ech cycle and if said person is trageted for either a lynch or NK then the Martyr will die in their place.

  • Martyr will be resurrected with the aligment of the perosn s/he died for.  so if the Martyr dies for a Mafia person the martyr's alignment is anti-town and he becomes a vinilla member of that mafia team; if they are town, Martyr comes back as a vinilla townie.
  • if the Martyr is lynched, and the person they choose has voted for them; then both the martyr and person they're protecting die.
