I have noticed that many later events in the wheel of time are foreshadowed in earlier books, often in a very casual way that you may not catch at first... for example in The Lord of choas Nynaeve in frustration stats that she cannot channel without being angry, she would sooner be able to breath while drowning... ofcourse we read two books later that while drowning she finally overcomes her block.  That being said, I was thinking about who could possible turn to the dark one before the end, someone we won't expect will by the end you can count on that. My first feeling was it would be cadsuane she is arragant enough and how many of the forsaken turned for such petty reasons. But I was recently rereading the books and noticed a patern.

1-In the last book Moradin specifically says that the darkone can bring back to life "those that follow him".

2-In the prelude to The eye of the world, ishameal tells lew therin that the dark one will bring back Ilyanna to life if he will follow the dark one. (he hints in the last book that the dark one could have brought Ilyanna back again for a second time), so that implies Ilyanna was a darkfriend.

3-In a few places hints are given in ways similar to the nynaeve example above that Elyane is Ilyanna reborn... for example in the shadow rising Rand thinks Lanfear is talking about elyane when she is refuring to Ilyanna, again in the last book rand has the realization that if he can be reborn so can Ilyanna...

so If Elayne is Ilyanna reborn, and Ilyanna was a darkfriend. what does this say about elyane? Beyond that is raises the question what happens when a darkfriend is reborn naturally(not given a new body by the darkone) are they still tied to the darkone? It opens up a lot of possiblities here, could elyane end up turning to the dark side, or bing forced to turn?  After all that is what really hurt about the forsaken is how they betrayed who they once were.  In the shadow rising during rands time seeing through the eyes of his ancestors they make a point in saying Lanfear was not always evil.

Just a thought but what does everyone think.

just from elayne's POV you know she's not a darkfriend.

and elayne is not ilyena reborn.

I agree that Elayne was not a DF, but we have no proof either way that she is not Ilyena.

A more important question is whether the Dark One can ressurect deceased non-darkfriends. If he could, why bother trying to keep Rand alive long enough to turn him? Just assasinate him and res him at Shayol Ghoul.

Personally, I think Ishy's promise to res Ilyena was a lie (unless she actually was a DF, in which case this is a moot point.)

Yes, he can. Though he is not very likely to.
