WHEN did Rand start channeling?

In Eye of the World, Moiraine states you usually get ill a week to 10 days after first time you channel (at least that goes for girls, since she was explaining this to Nynaeve. Could be different for boys I guess..)

Miraine also says she noticed Bela didn't need any help getting rid of the fatigue, and that this must be rands doing.

 

However, it was not until right before Rand and Matt gets to Camelyn that Rand got the Illness you get for first time channeling... It took them more than 10 days from leaving Aemonds Field to get close to Camelyn, didn't it?

And it couldn't be cause of the lightning Rand made to escape darkfriends either, cause that was only 3 days prior...

So WHEN was the first time Rand channeled?? On the boat wit Domon? In the mast?

Maybe I'm just not counting days right, or maybe I'm silly, but this just bugged me..

Rand felt the first affects of Channeling Sickness in Bearlon. When he faced off against the Whitecloaks in the street. He was feeling light headed and weird. The second time on the way to Caemlyn was worse because it was more power and the second time.

lightheaded doesn't necessarily mean he got sick.. I assumed it would come stronger. Since Nyn was knocked out her first time for a few hs. just like rand did later on...

 

Not saying you are wrong, I just didn't think that was the sickness...

Nynaeve Healed Eggy. That required quite a bit more power than removing fatigue, even at a distance. I think that is why newbies start out with small amounts of the Power. Thus limiting the effect on the body. Like with exercising, you do too much you hurt real bad.

But what did rand do to knock him out so badly close to camelyn? was it the lightnings? if so, does the sickness come closer and closer to the time he channels? Cause the lightening was 3 days prior to when he was completely knocked out with fever and chills.

It took them about a week (10 days) to reach Baerlon. That makes sence. He was also sleeping under bushes in the weather.

Yeah, that one is ok. I was talking more about the time he was knocked out with chills and fevers closer to camelyn. cant see what he did 7-10 days before then. The lightening to save them from darkfriends is the most logical choice, but that was only 3 days before he got sick...

Yes, in Moiraine's explanation to the girls, she stated that the associated sickness moves closer and closer to the channeling event until it happens at the same time as the channeling.

Key word.  And as it is, Rand isn't your usual channeller.  Seems to me that RJ may have left himself some wiggle room with that tidbit.

Reaction: Forgetfulness, others?

There is also the way they found the Eye so fast, which was originally suggested by Robert Alex Willis. It's unproven, but has a fair basis in description. I'm considering adding the suggestion of this to the FAQ.

I always thought that when he was in the wood outside the farmhouse and going back to get things he wanted to laugh. He felt different. The situation would definitely bring the ability out. And right afterward, when he "helps" Bella is when he certainty used power. So, either the woods outside the farm or on the ran from TR.

He didn't actually do anything at the farm though, so I don't think it was there.

Helping Bela was the night after the farm was attacked, not "right after". That's when he first channeled.
