Lies of Locke Lamora

How come no one has read this book. Of all my time here, I have never heard of it.

One day, A kid came up to me while I was reading the great hunt raving about this book. I got for Christmas, and am almost done. All I can say is it's the perfect ration of witty to vulgar humor, mixed with a good plot and action.

I am so, so in love with this series. The prologue (available for free here for anyone interested) blew me away, and I spent the next six months looking eagerly in stores until I finally scored a copy. It is all kinds of fun and ridiculously awesome. :D

May I recommend Chris Wooding's Retribution Falls for your further reading pleasure? The tagline is The Lies of Locke Lamora meets Firefly, and it's the same kind of kickass, hilarious fantasy/action type stuff.

I also love this series. Lies was better than Red Skies though.

Never heard of it, but now I'm salivating. My similar lines would be Joe Abercrombie's First Law series, or any of Jennifer Fallon's series aside from her first (Demon Child: it's not terrible, but its nothing special, not like the other three).

I liked Lies a lot. The beginning didn't catch me as much as the middle and end. The ending was the best.

Now for Red Seas Under Red Skies.... grrrh! Pissed me off royally. I won't say more since I don't want to do a spoiler thing. Hopefully Republic of Thieves will be better.

I also fell in love with this book! The scattered storyline is great. I'll agree that Lies was better than Red Seas, but the sequel I still think is quite well, it has a neat setting that's for sure. I wish Lynch would get his ass in gear and write faster, but don't we all?

It's a very good book. RED SEAS was a bit of a letdown, all the more annoying because its most obvious problems could have been fixed very easily.

Interesting to see what REPUBLIC OF THIEVES is like. Lynch has suffered a lot of personal problems in the last two years or so, so it's unclear how much work is left to be done on the book.

I put it on my stick pad to read. ;D

  • 1 month later...

Scott Lynch has delivered THE REPUBLIC OF THIEVES to his UK publishers, Gollancz, and his US ones, Bantam. The book is now entering the revision/editing cycle, which is expected to last several months, before moving into production.

The current plan is for a simultaneous UK/US release in Spring 2011.

Hey Wert, what exactly has happened to Scott? You always hear that he has had "problems", but never what exactly those problems are. Also, do you have any scoop on what happened to Queen of the Red Sands?

He had a family member with a long-term fatal illness whom he had to help care for, during which time very little, if any, work was done on the book.

I have no idea what's happened to QUEEN OF THE RED SANDS. Hopefully now RoT is complete and handed in, he'll let us know what's going on.
