Round 1, Tie 5

Les Claypool

Claypool is the bass player for Primus, an American funk metal group. He is known for his funky, creative playing style, mixing finger-tapping, flamenco-like strumming, a slap technique, and has been influenced by Geddy Lee. He is also part of his own group called "Colonel Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade".

vs.

Sting

A multi-award winning performer, with an Oscar nomination to his name as well! He has had a sparkling career as both a solo artist and as part of Police.

Ain't No Mountain High

Round 1, Tie 7

John Entwistle

John Entwistle was the bass player for The Who, who died of a heart attack in 2002. His approach used pentatonic (five pitches per octave) lead lines, and a then-unusual trebly sound created by roundwound RotoSound steel bass strings. He had a collection of over 200 instruments at the time of his death.

vs.

Jaco Pastorius

(If Carlsberg did Bassists), Quite possibly the best bassist ever! Just a bit more on Pastorius. His playing style was noteworthy for containing intricate solos in the higher register. His innovations also included the use of harmonics and the "singing" quality of his melodies on fretless bass.
