A good offense doesn't commit five turnovers and they usually know how many men are in the huddle. The Saints have had the best O all year. The D on the other hand, is pretty average but they do have a knack for coming up with the football.

You do realize that the Vikings for the season are ranked signifcantly higher than the saints?

Vikings had a rating of #3 for Offense and #2 for Defense of the entire league. Saints were not even in the top five for both.

Let alone passing and rushing offense/defense. (Again Saints were not in the top 5 for either.)

The team as a whole buckled under the pressure as they are fond of doing. Which is why even when they have had a better team than they do now... they still have yet to perform to the level they do during the season. :P

Didn't have any interceptions until Farve got injured, and its fairly obvious that the Saints were purposely trying to injure farve. Suprised there was no 'unnecisary roughness' calls being thrown.

He got hit more that game then I think he got hit in the entire season!

AS for Peterson and his fumbles. He's always had that issue. Theres a reason they benched Peterson for a bit. The one fumble that wasn't petersons fault.. well two technically I'd attribute to the Saints really going after that ball, and less from the vikings buckling under pressure.. The Fumble on farve (when he was handing it off to peterson) happened after he injured his ankle, no? I don't think they trusted the backup QB enough to make the game even with an injured farve, They might have put him in during OT, but he got injured to.

Peterson was off his game, and a few of the devensive guys. After farve got injured, he probalby shoulda let the other guy in, and we coulda won that game if we had went for that Field goal with 2minutes to go, but that turnover killed us.

OT bad ref calls, killed any chance of a viking possession during OT.

I'd still like to see an OT that wasn't sudden death. ;)

Uhh. . . according to ESPN.com, for the 2009 regular season the Saints offense ranks No. 1 in total yards, No.1 in total points, No. 2 in first downs, No. 4 in passing yards, No. 6 in rushing yards; so yeah, they've been the best offense all year.

I hate the NFL overtime format as well; the equal possessions from the twenty five that is used in college and most state's high school ball is still not perfect but at least it provides equal opportunities to win. The main reason they keep the sudden death format is CBS not wanting them to intrude too far into 60 Minutes. What a dumb reason.

I just dislike sudden death because it gives way to much advantage to the team that starts with the possession.

Historically I don't think the Vikings have a very good track record in OT.

The Saints led the NFL in points per game and yards per game in the regular season.  This was despite slumping a bit down the stretch.  They were clearly the best offense in the NFL.  Favre overperformed for much of the season.  He has always been prone to picks and I'm not surprised that they bit him in the ass against the Saints.

NFL.com doesn't even list the Saints in the Top 5... so now its a matter of whether you trust nfl.com or espn.com. :P

Interesting look at Peyton and Drew:

By K.C. Joyner

ESPN Insider

Throughout the playoffs, Football Scientist K.C. Joyner has been offering contrarian viewpoints on common football arguments. Here's one on New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees.

If Super Bowl history has taught us anything, it is that the old cliché about the importance of winning the turnover battle is spot on. For proof, consider that 31 of 34 teams that came out ahead in that statistic have also finished in front on the scoreboard on Super Sunday.

At first glance, that trend would seem to favor a Saints victory in many ways. New Orleans' 39 takeaways were the second most in the league and the Saints' interception total (26) was just as high as the Indianapolis Colts' takeaway total.

The good news for the Old Gold and Black doesn't stop there, either. Peyton Manning's 2.8 percent interception rate this year was his highest total in that category since 2002 and he threw at least one pick in eleven games. Contrast that to Drew Brees' 2.1 percent interception rate (third-lowest of his career) and seven interception-free games and it seems to bode very well for New Orleans' chances of pulling off an upset.

Then, I looked at the bad decision percentages for both quarterbacks and things changed.

For those new to my metric system, a bad decision is defined as when a passer makes a mistake with the ball that leads to either a turnover or a near turnover (e.g. interception that is dropped, fumble that is recovered by the offense, etc.). Since the idea of this metric is to gauge the entirety of the quarterback's risk-taking, penalty plays are included in the attempt side of the ledger but spike passes and sacks are not.

The primary goal of this metric is to help determine how much the quarterback's risk-taking is impacting the team. A good illustration of this can be found in Manning's metrics over the past two seasons. He made a mistake on 20 out of 1,166 aerials, or only 1.7 percent of the time.

Now contrast that total against Brees' 2008-2009 metrics. He made 30 mistakes in 1,181 passes for a bad decision rate of 2.5 percent

A .8 percent difference doesn't sound like much until you look at it from a per-pass rate perspective. Manning's 1.7 percent rate means that over the past two years he has made a bad decision about once in every 59 pass attempts. Brees' 2.5 percent pace means that he did something ill-advised with the ball about once in every 40 passes. Another way to say this is that Manning will typically make a bad decision once in every six quarters, while Brees will post one in every four quarters.

It is also worth noting that Brees' total not only compares poorly against Manning; it also fares badly against much of the rest of the league. His two-year rate ranked tied for 15th out of the 28 quarterbacks with 500 or more pass attempts the past two years. One of the passers he was tied with was none other than Brett Favre.

If those numbers aren't enough of a positive for the Colts, there is also good news on the near-interception front (a near-interception being defined as a dropped interception or a pass that landed close enough to a defender that it could have been picked off if luck were on the defender's side). Indianapolis racked up 26 near-interceptions versus the Saints' 13. That means the Colts had 42 interception chances (i.e. interceptions plus near-interceptions), which is three more than the Saints tallied.

Put it all together and it means that New Orleans is not a cinch to win the all-important turnover battle. The Saints will need a top-notch game from both their defense and from Brees to come out ahead in that statistic.

Dat Drew!!

;D  Manning made alot of boo-boos

our D coord did wonderful.  by annoucning that the Saints were intending to give Manning some "remember me hits" we forced them to put most of their focs on covering Manning, which left them open for the mistakes we all saw.

how about that D stopping manning at the 5yrd line in the 4th.  and what about Tracey porter!!!!  an interception-touch down return for 74 yrds.

*beams* not to mention Hartley.  3 dead center kicks all over 43 yrds.

*giggles*  and i wont even mention the on-sides kick to start off the 2nd half  *snickers*

Saints 4 da Superbowl in 2013!!!  Gaeux Saints!!!  We want homefield advantage in 2013 ya'll  :D

so onto the draft.  i think the saints need to think about a replacement for Shockey, i love him as a player but his injury record concerns me.  and i think besides shockey, our offense is good.  so saints need to focus on our D

Hey, Wombat - you want predictions?  How're these?

Vikings are going to win the superbowl, undefeated. :P

Yeah . . . by the end of the year, Favre will have you crying

Saints aren't just decent - without injuries, I'm fairly certain they're winning the superbowl.  They just have too many ways they can beat you - passing, running, or with D.  They'll have homefield, too . . .

WHO DAT!!!   Love it, my Saints won and we partied laughed cried and all that good stuff.  As for next year, I dunno about replacing Shockey yet but probably do need a nice rookie TE to develop under him and Thomas.  Defense is the key.  We need one good corner to be able to step in with Greer and Porter.  Gay is hot and cold, mostly cold so he needs replacing.  Jenkins did well as a rookie and will get some nice training in the offseason.  We really need another big strong DT to help stop the inside run game and we have good DE's but Charles Grant needs to go so we need to pick up one in the draft.  I'd say we need to replace Brunell with another veteran backup QB because what I saw of him he was awful.  Might need to thing about a proven LT to come in and replace or give on the job help to Bushrod. He did well but still struggled, actually I think he just needs to get stronger and work on his quickness and balance and there may be no need for a veteran.  Usama Young needs to learn from Sharper so he can replace him when the time comes and I really feel we need better Outside Linebackers.  Vilma is great but Shanle and Fujita need help.  They are good but not great and had some trouble sealing the edges sometimes as well as trouble with inside run support and TE or slot pass coverage.  Our punt and kick game is just fine so no need to touch that.  No need for new receivers since we already have one that needs to start getting worked into the passing game in Roby but still needs to do Kick Returns.  I hope we don't get rid of Reggie Bush because he showed glimmers this year of a new running style and passion.  He is starting to go north and south and lower the shoulder.  Combine that with his intangibles and he is gonna be great.  We can maybe replace Bell but if we keep him thats cool too cuz he did do some good things, Hamilton may be the guy to be our rock pounder he showed some rays of promise.  Look forward to having Heath Evans back at FB and healthy because when he was in he was great at run blocking Max protection pass blocking and catching out of the back field on check downs.  Way better then Eckel.  WHO DAT!

one of the best pics i've found of the superbowl :)  his son is just adorible

i agree with most of what you said :)  and actualy, are you sure your not Bubba??  he said basically the same things as you last night while we were tlakign about this lmao

shocky ... i like shocky dont get me wrong, its just that the man (because of his playing style) h's never finished an entire season.  now he's a good player, and an awesome weapon on our offense.  but because he always hits hard and his playing style he just can't keep off the injury list.

so yeah i agree with getting a rookie to train under him, or maybe a free agent that shows potential and has been in the NFL for a year or two.  that way their not totally new to the playing style of the NFL, but wont take up much cap space and be set in their ways.  also, Shockeys attitude has really turned around being on the saints (snuggles Drew Brees)

i have to agree about Mark Brunell.  now that he has his 2nd superbowl ring, he's gonna start thinkign about retirement.  i think our 3rd string QB is a rookie that we picked up last year right??  well we need another vet to back up Drew.  someone that has a decent amount of experience so that if we need him to play we know he has some experience.  there are goign to be alot of QB's cut this year, and Bubba was thinking of Cambell.  i ofcourse am weary of the Saints getting any player from the Skins while they are ran by Snider.  bad attitudes and set in their ways, and really they don't give a hoot either.  but when you have an owner like Snider, its understanable, the man is a *PG13 Sign*

i'd like us to get another kicker/punter.  i like the two we have, but i'd like to have a back up as well.  one that we can rely on.  i miss my man Weatherford.

as for Bush, it was nice to see remnates of the 06 Bush come back.  its a hate/love relationship with him really.  i don't like him as our starter, i perfer Pierre (but then again i was a big fan of duece and pierres style is alot like dueces) and i think the Bush is a bit over rated as well.  i'm glad hes starting to actually not be afriad to take a hit.  but i like him better as a punt and kick returner or when we need to cause trouble for line up matching for other teams defense.  the man is an asset yes, but an over rated one.

as for Bell, give the guy a chance.  he showed lots of promise while Pierre was hurt and given that he hasn't been playing long i'd like to see him come into his own.

Hartley is terrific.  Getting a backup for him is a waste of a roster spot.  There's always some 40 year old OK kicker floating around in free agency anyway.  I really liked Randall Gay when he was with the Pats, so I don't think you need a replacement for him.  As for a backup QB, if you can get a good one, more power to ya, but don't make it a priority.  I would work on whatever weak spots there are on the defense, which I'm guessing if you have two corners you consider better than Gay is not the secondary.  And it's always nice to have a good left tackle too.
