How to kill the DO without shattering the world?

Recommended Posts

We know that the use of balfire once threatened to shatter the world; It was simply affecting the pattern in such ways that made it almost collapse.

Would`nt killing the DO have a similar effect but greatly magnified? I cannot think of any single event having a larger impact on the stability of the pattern than the total elimination of the very embodiement of evil...

Therefore I can only imagine a single outcome of Tarmon Gaidon. That is, the dark one must once again be captured and sealed behind (hopefully) unbreakable barriers.

So my guess is quite simply that the dark one will expose his weak side and thereby try to assure his own destruction. His intentions is to lure Rand into a clever trap. And what greater display of perfected evil than the very annihilation of the fabric of hope and love, the premise of everything; life itself? It can of course be argued that it is even more sinister to corrupt the world, but as long as life remains there will also be tiny drops of hope. And furthermore it would be a rebellion against the Creator, of whom (probably) greatest achievement is life.

This theory is, in my opinion, strengthen by the fact that the forsaken always seems to on the losing side. The dark one might be meddling, slowly turning the events in favour of Rand. The dark one fears the prospect of apparent success, because he lingers for another more devastating outcome.

// I hope you can excuse my rather clumsy english. Being a norwegian this is hardly my cup of tea.

I think that the Dark One will not be killed but just sealed in once more. If he would be killed then that would be the end of "The Wheel turns on etc. etc. He has never been killed before so i don't see any reason why that would be the case this time. This is just from the top of my head so i maybe having the facts all wrong but that's how i came to understand "the Books".

An alternative to balefire might be Blossoms of Fire, though that might be as risky as balefire.

Robert Jordan told that the Wheel/Pattern would still exist in the next Age.  I take the Pattern needs both the Dark One & Creator in order to remain; removing either would cause there to be no more Pattern.

after fighting and defeating the DO's physical avatar Rand is going to have to seal the bore, the actual sealing,i think its going to be something like Rand using the CK holding off the DO while Aes Sedai and Asha'man form a huge circle to create a new patch, but this one being of both halves of the source making it stronger  ???

and i have been thinking of the Tinkers search for the "song" , i think that with such a large group of people maybe the song would be a form of synchronizing all the channelers ?  :-\

RJ said the amount of balefire necessary to kill Shai'tan would destroy the world.

Most likely He will be sealed, but it won't be forever. The Wheel turns...

Why would you need the Dark one for the pattern to remain? Isnt the Dark One sealed outside of the pattern anyways?

If that is the case, wouldnt that mean that the wheel could continue to turn? The D O is more a disruption to the pattern.

first i you say the deustruction of the dark one will annihilate the world, this also links with some of the prophesies such as the one about rand being killed it could also mean everyone else

but i disagree with the 'dark one's plan' theory  i dont think he/she/it would ever sacrifice itself

From various passages, I take the Pattern to be the balance of good & evil.

Forgot the exact passage, but Moiraine said something like 'the Creator is good, the Dark One evil, but the Pattern neither; a pattern of one color is not a pattern'

I remember it was in Dragon Reborn on their way to Tear.

The Dark One is the antithesis of the Creator. The Creator cannot kill him since they are probably of equal strength. The universe of the WoT is made up contradicting forces. The Creator stands for order and the Dark One stands for chaos. Without one of them the universe would not work. There can be no notion of order without chaos and vice versa.

Thus the Pattern needs both.

The Bore will most likely be resealed but probably somehow made whole again and not patched like last time. And hopefully without both saidar/saidin getting tainted.

But if the wheel survives Tarmon Gai'don it would contradict Elan Morin/Ishamaels prediction that this Tarmon Gai'don is the very last one.

Found the passage; Dragon Reborn Chapter 33.

The full speech::

"The Creator is good, Perrin. The Father of Lies is evil. The Pattern of Age, the Age Lace itself, is neither. The Pattern is what is. The Wheel of Time Weaves all lives into the Pattern, all actions. A pattern that is all one color is no pattern. For the Pattern of an Age, good and ill are the warp and the woof."

Well if I remember correctly, it was Min or Herid Fel who said that the Last Battle cannot truly be the Last Battle. Can't remember exact quote, but maybe someone can look it up for us.
