I'm a system tester, which means I work within IT. I have been trying to explain to a friend why the Creator cannot simply destroy the DO, but I'm not sure if i am getting it quite right.

 

I'm trying to describe it in terms of computers because it's easiest for me.

 

So, I am the creator, I am the administrator of my computer and the computer environment. I 'control' it, I built it, I regulate it on a daily basis.

 

The DO is a virus, a bug in the machine that got there because I opened up a file that contained a bug.

 

Now, even though I built the machine, I control it and I am the administrator, I cannot rid the machine of this virus myself. All I can do is to throw things in there to see if I can cleanse the machine - I can try virus scanners, I can try machine 'cleaners' to try and eradicate the bug, I can remove infected programs, and if all else fails I can try reformatting the disk but if it's a really persistent bug, I simply cannot rid the machine of it. Eventually the machine will be 'dead', and I will have to build a new one.

 

Rand, other ta'veren, twists in the pattern etc are all things that are being 'thrown' at the world by the pattern (which the creator set in motion - kind of like me installing a firewall or virus scanner), but it's not guaranteed that any of them will 'win'...

 

 

Does that sound about right?

I understand what you're trying to say, but I don't think it's that simple. Of course it might be true, and it does sound logical, but I think there's more to it.

I see it more like, the DO is also an administrator, but you locked him in the supply closest the moment you booted the system up. Now, he's whispering from the closet, giving those who would listen to him advice as to how to keep you busy with viruses as they try to unlock the closet, so that he can come out, turn off your system, and boot his own...

Ta'veren could be called software updates, and the time in the books could represent the installation time, which is slowed down by the virus. If the virus can infect the updates, then they will infect the entire system after successfully installed.

 

You could look at the Matrix films for some good points to follow the IT theme. Maybe Hurin is a virus scanner hahaha

with out light how doe you have darkness the light gives the darkness its shape without shape and form darkness has NO power you lose as you winn lol

I think it would make more sense if it was piece of hardware that was corrupt. You can't remove that peice without destroying the whole system. Like one chip that's just gone bad.
