I gotta go with them Vy-eenie Sausage Fellers Singin that Joy to the Mondo song.

That other'n ... it's just too dang solemn for me at Christmas Time... Woulda been a Top o' The Pops back in Gregorian Chant days though..

Once in a Royal David's City is one of the most famous Christmas carols ever! It was the opening carol at my school's Carol Service, sung like it is the YouTube clip - a young male soprano singing the opening verse, the choir the 2nd verse before the congregation joins in from the 3rd verse.

I'm just quite shocked, that's all.

I am off to bed now...so I hope there is a winner when I check DM in the morning at work tomorrow. ;) Otherwise I pick the winner!  ;D

Figures Dae would vote for some obscure English Gregorian Chant ;D .. I don't recall seeing any wine decanted in that video nor a Rickenbacker Bass anywhere either... Yes...A Brit thing for sure. Though I'm sure there are civilized persons on this side of the Atlantic who've heard and probably go wiggly kneed over that sad excuse for a Joyful Noise.... Immigrant English Dogs that they are!! ;D

I hope yer young male soprano "drops" soon, else he's gonna get ribbed incessantly by his mates in the near future.... he does have nice "round tones" though....

Lord o' Mercy, I'm sure glad I didn't attend yer school Corkster... Yer school is likely overjoyed too.

*giggles and twaps manny AGAIN*

I havn't had this much fun in awhile!!  ;)

Actually alot of carols are somewhat reginal and cultural!  Even from place to place in the states. I hadn't heard this David's City either...kind of like O Come, O COme Emmanuel.  Like this song with your school..in my church and all Lutheran churchs up north it is sang every sunday in advent..but here in Oklahoma, the land of the Baptist. ::) they've never heard of it!

Thank you Dae!  ;D At least one of my favourite carols didn't get knocked out in the first round! lol!

I'm guessing the more traditional carols have strong European ties. I'm guessing it comes down to the Catholic Church and the British break from it under Henry VIII. I'm not 100% sure, but it must have something to do with that. And there is nothing with Gregorian Chants!

And there was nothing wrong with my school - it has good strong traditions!  :P

I'll get round 5 up at lunch as I need to start work now.

Given how many concerts and services i've been drafted in to this year i had to go with something thats good to sing!

Hence the following choice... O Come All Ye Faithful, without a doubt. Ave Maria is hardly a carol imho, and O Come All Ye Faithful has the advantage of being able to sing it all in Latin as well.

Adeste Fideles ftw
