Who should direct the movie?

There's already a topic on casting options, but what are some opinions on who should direct the WoT movie (if Universal ever scrapes up the budget)?

I really like Peter Jackson's direction, but would anyone take it seriously if he directed it?  Or would they just see it as a rip-off of LOTR?  (Of course I don't see it that way, but would a lot of people?)

I like Christopher Nolan. The guy who directed Batman Begins, the Dark Knight, Prestige, Insominia and a couple other films. He gave my favorite Superhero back his balls, and the guy doesn't like to limit himself to one genre, and always try to do something new with the film he's working on. I can't name one bad film he's made. So he'd be my pick.

Lol, Steven Spielberg?

No, I think I would go for Peter Jackson as well. He seems to have the know-how, and I think he is planning to make the Hobbit into a film, just for fun, he says.

Not Jackson.

Gore Verbinski. From Pirates (all three of them).

I always imagined a WoT movie more like Pirates than like the lotr movies.

Those who think about Peter Jackson, keep one thing in mind. He is a long time fan of LOTR. That of course had a major influence on how he approached the movies. Nothing says that he would have anywhere near the same approach to WOT.

And IMO, LOTR was not that great.

For anyone who has actualy read the LOTR books and the other works of Tolkien the movie would be nothing better than mediocore. Theres tons of flaws etc. that just annoys the heck out of you every time you see it. So in comparison to the books they are indeed crap, but as an independent movie they are rather good.

I tried to read the first book and got bored out of my mind. Over half of it was them trying to get out of the Shire. To me the movies are a less painful way to experience the concept of LOTR.

I think that Peter Jackson should at least be involved in the making, as he has the most experienced in the sort of genre that WoT is based on. I think it should be a jumble of people working on a WoT film. For example, the dude who composed the LOTR score is really good, so put him and John Williams together and you have the perfect blend of sci-fi and fantasy.

The big question is whether or not all the talent needed to create a movie worthy of Robert Jordan's masterpiece can be assembled at once. The completion of one movie, let alone all 12, would take years.

I just think making a movie of WoT of major watchability is just to difficult.

whoever directs narnia series is at least coming close to the books tho they skipped the first one( well it was like a prebook, new spring like that)

if its the person who directed eragon they r gonna mess it up bigtime the movie just plain sucked in regards to book

or the person that directed series of unfortunate events they suck too

on another note i prefer LOTR movies to books the books just bloody suck, great story, bad writting, hate if u want but thats what i believe

I liked the LOTR movies. They changed it from being a history (the books) to being an actual story (the movies). The story and such were good, but reading them was just dry.

I should.
I concur. If only Universal saw things the same way.

hasn't wot already been written? That's what the upper part of my library says anyway
Still needs screenwriters.

The writing was about the story of Pirates 2&3 sucking. The wot story has already been written. Whether the Illianers speak English English or Texan English is much less important. Or if Pippin can be a Scot...

The story may not be identical. Subplots may need to be cut. Scenes removed, characters combined. There's a lot more to it than just deciding what accent the characters use. There is ample scope for idiotic writers, or an idiotic director, or idiotic studio executives to screw with the story and create an incoherent mess that does little more than pay lip-service to what RJ wrote. What ends up on screen needs writers. Those writers may jettison a lot of what people consider good about the series. People with a big creative say in the series may not even bother reading it. What you have in your library is not what will appear on screen. It may be close, it may be way off, but it will be different.
