I've reached the Book 10 Barrier, as I've come to call it.

I've been reading (or not reading, as the case appears to be) book 10 CoT for about 2 months now. I'm stuck about half way through. I have no motivation to read the rest, even though I'm totally besotted with the story... Egwene has just 'allowed' Delana to manipulate her, agreeing to send Beonin off to the WT to talk to Elaida.

Sigh.

I have actually read book 10 before, but it was ages ago and it's all as-new to me.

I need some motivation to keep reading!! Please tell me the rest of the book isnt Faile this and Faile that, or Elayne whingeing about this and that, or there's a chance I may never finish it...

Rand discovers a new type of Balefire at the end of the Book and uses it to destroy the Pattern. Book 11 title, Knife of Dreams, refers to Egwene finding a special dagger in Tel'aran'rhiod that can reweave the Pattern.

Aha, I spy a problem  ;D

Nice try, but I'm afraid I'm a 'spoiler-addict'. I know what happens to Rand at the end of Bk11, and I know where Egwene ends up... I just dont know what happens in the middle. I even know that eventually, Faile gets free and how...

I think maybe i've created the issue myself!! Apart from Mat/Tuon there's very little I have to keep reading to find out!

The rest of the book isn't Faile this and Faile that, nor Elayne whingeing about this and that.

As a matter of fact, it is.

CoT is my worst book in the series so far. Even KoD, which stands pretty low compared to the awesomeness of TFoH, PoD and TSR, is much better than that.

One good incentive to read CoT is to be able to enjoy KoD more.

Just plow through it. It does get boring, but KoD is good because the Seanchan begin to become a serious plot. I know its hard sometimes I remember having the same problem.

I always get the dregs at book 5 when that witch Faile is more present,  Book 10 is very good, it has Mat and Tuon alot.  that alone is worth reading, even if you have to suffer through Faile and Elyane.

100% AGREED!

Though I don't like PoD much either. First 3 were the best.

Step One:  Bake Brownies.

Step Two:  Eat Brownies - BUT- only one per chapter finished in CoT.

Want a Brownie, read a chapter.  Want a Brownie that isn't stale, read quickly.

Then, when you finish the book, have ice cream with the Brownie.

You could replace brownie for beer and then if you end up not liking the end of the book, you won't care! ;D

Seriously, IMO anyone who has started the series and liked it needs to plow through to the end. You know it's going to be good and if not I invite you all to come to my house and beat me to death (I could use the extended vacation) :)

She's already halfway through, so prolly not more than 15 Brownies involved.

Even with Brownies for an incentive, CoT is so bad that it'll take her more than one day to finish.

My guess would be about three Brownies a day.

( now, one of two or maybe even both, things will happen - she'll come to appreciate CoT, or she'll come to hate Brownies - neither of which would be all bad. )

Oh no ... I can't take either of you up on those ideas... I'm currently 28lb into a 49lb weight-loss regime and can't stop now!!  :o

I think i'm just going to have to plod on. With a stress-ball for the Faile chapters.

Repeat after me -

"There are NO calories in brownies.  There are NO calories in brownies.  There are NO calories in brownies. ..."

( it helps if you can click the heels of your ruby slippers together as you chant )

Haha, fantastic  ;D

Just tried to read a bit more. Finished the current chapter at least!! Apparently Akkarin has returned from her foray - ... yay  ::) More 'Egwene must remember what it means to be the Amyrlin'.

I really should just get on with it!

And wasnt the baddie/goodie in the Trudi Canavan books called Akarrin? Methinks she may have stolen the name  8)

I agree 100%. When you first start to see rand developing it is great. His progress with the sword was steady, book 2 was all Padan Fain, first sight of the Seanchan and the Horn of Valere, and Book 3 was immense not only because Rand took the stone but two Forsaken died as well. Book 2 and 3 were great all the way through.

I will not stand to hear you insult the democratically elected, peace loving people that make up the wonderful government of Lebanon.

Totally disagree, Books I,,IV and V are my favourite, and I really Liked KOD (maybe because some of the sub-plots finally seemed to get resolved).

I wasn't as happy with 4 and 5 as I was with 1,2 and 3 because the whole Aiel thing seemed really stretched out. I wish Rand spent less time in the Waste.

KOD........I was expecting much and didn't get it. As some people have suggested, it seems to be part 1 of AMOL, rather than a book by itself. It lacks its own story that leads to a climax at the end of the book -the first 6 books have awesome climaxes.

Hee-hee!  :D

I know how you feel, I feel exactly the same way! I've been reading CoT for ages, just can't seem to get past that 'barrier'. It's my 3rd re-read so I know it's *possible* to get past it.

I've been reading these forums for months, but haven't posted so far. I hadn't realised that one could get emotional support here as well as insight into what's happening in the books! :)

So far, The SAS have just decided to approach the BT and Eggy is off for a jaunt into TAR. I don't have a problem with any of the AS chapters, so finally theres something worth reading! I think there's an episode of WT BA hunters too later on, if I remember rightly, but then it's probably back to Perrin & Faile, and YAWN Elayne, so I'll probably grind to a halt again :(

There are a hell of a lot of not-that-important characters in WoT, it is hard to remember so many sometimes as we see Rand, Mat and Perrin in different groups of their own, with loads of people around each of them, then we have the "Supergirls" who have yet another group of people, I sometimes find myself seeing names, not remembering who they are, and not really bothering about it. Most of the Aes Sedai names, Sea Folk and Kin names I wouldnt recognise

A glitch in my computer/editing software combined parts of two replies from different thteads and I did not look at post after I wrote it.  I am nuts but I think that the really good Iraq novels ate X and XII.  ;D ;D

Don't bother to keep in track all the teeny characters who practically have no part to play at all. No human brain can keep track of all of them-except the writer of course. I have no memory of anyone called 'Moria.'
