The HSX Update

For those of you new to this, HSX is a stock exchange for movies.  Basically you start out with 2m in fake money and invest it in upcoming movies.  So if you buy stock in say.... Iron Man 2 when it is low, and then Iron Man blows up at the theatres, you could be rolling in the fake money.

 

DM does have a league and here is a recap on how people are fairing.

 

I am going to go in order for Season to date as going in order of money is not fair as I have been a member the longest and have a LARGE lead over everyone.

My best stock right now is Get Smart... I made about 610k on it.  However I just sunk about 1.5m into Iron Man 2 as I bought it pretty low.  My worst stock is Halo where I have lost about 131K.  I also own about 31000 shares of it, so any tiny swing in its value I really feel.  I am hoping that I will see major positive movement in it soon.

 

I make big money in the Derivatives... meaning you predict how they will do at the box office.  Right now The Happening has one that has you predicting if it makes 30m at the box office in it's opening weekend.  If you jump on it today at the opening price of $2 per share, you could make some good money.  I bought 10000 shares and figure to make about 50k in a week.

Panda Express is obviously up 17%, but since opening weekend is this week, it's not suprise.

 

My WORST stocks:

But my biggest money maker is really Christian Bale. That man is popular. His stock has risen a total of 64% since I bought my shares.  ;D

 

I havent tried derivitives yet, but I guess I'll have to. I'm still at the point where I only buy between 1-5000 shares of stock, so I don't ever make *big* money.

I usually buy 1000 shares of any movie I want to keep taps on.  If the stock is cheap, I will buy many more shares, especially if their is news on them. 

 

I just sold my AP4 shares as it was killing me.  I have Christian Bale stock as well.

I just invested in 5k shares of the Green Hornet, which announced Seth Rogan as lead actor and one of the writers. The price is still pretty low, so hopefully I'll get some good news there. My worst bit is when I buy early, and the stocks go through that down time when they are in production and you stop hearing about them developing, and there are no previews, so people tend to forget about them, and I lose money. That is what happened to me with Get Smart. I bought it at $118, and it's at $104...but I don't think it's going to catch back up with itself before it's premiere. We'll see though. I've lost so much money on that movie. :(

I bought get smart at $65 a share.  I was once up a cool million until it dipped back down. 

 

Green Hornet... I better get on that.

 

Stocks I like...

 

Captian America - Only at 54 a share which is cheap compared to other comic book adaptations.  I expect it to double in the next few months as more news comes out.

 

HUHEF - Hugh Hefner biopic.  Real cheap at 10 a share.  Robert Downey just signed on for the lead role.  I got it at $5 a few weeks ago before he signed on.

 

The best stock that has preformed for me was Land of the Lost.  I got in on that when it was rumored to be a movie at 4.78.  It has gone up 1,171 percent to $60 a share.  I also bough Captain America at 5 a share.

Woohoo!  I like your stats better, Empy.  The regular League stats put me at #4, hahaha.  But I'm working on catching up on the two above me.  I'll Get you my pretties!!!!!!

 

Currently, I'm still working in low figures for most of my stocks.  But I'm getting to where I can really put some money into a few stocks now, so I'm being bold.  I had some good luck with the TV options earlier this year and I'm thinking of going that route again when the new seasons start.  I also had some nice return from the Oscar Options.  I'm dabbling in a few funds, but I've yet to do the call and put type stocks.  I'm making a goal to add some of those in soon.

 

I also have Christian Bale stock.  I originally put Tons of money into different actors and Lost my Butt!  So I've trimmed the stable down quite a bit.  Christian Bale's my best stock there as I caught him once at $25.

 

Movie stock-wise, my top three percentage performers are The Smurfs, The Lone Ranger, and Avengers.  However, my highest gain is on Transformers 2.  My lowest percentage performer is a Bollywood movie which I should toss, but I have a penchant for holding onto strange movies like this to remind me they're coming out.  This is my downfall.  I should sell all but one share, I don't know why I don't.

My Prince of Persia stock has double since I bought it gaining me about 74K.

Watchmen has netted me over a million dollars by itself.

Iron Man 2 is coming along at near 500K.

Choke, which I bought as a penny stock ($1.81 a share) is now at $12.86.

 

I have about 2 mil in money to spend but not sure what I want to purchase.

 

I am still waiting for Halo to rebound as I have 31,000 in stock with a loss of 140K.  I know the script was just reviewed so I have high hopes for this one.

Not sure if anyone has heard of this yet, but I think Quentin Tarantino's new movie with Mike Myers will be a pretty good bet, as well as Steve Carell's and Tina Fey's movie Date Night...though this movie has not yet been put on HSX.

I think today's the first day it's been up and it's pretty buggy, but it looks like they've added the ability to link your stocks to your myspace and facebook pages or some such.  And they've added polls for earning extra HSX cash.
