Corki Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 As we seem to have a few Metal heads in the Band, I'm picking a metal group for this week's "Tune or No Tune". All you need to do is decide if it is a TUNE (i.e. you love it) or NO TUNE (i.e. you hate it). I have to blame an old Bander for getting me into Blind Guardian - Faile1987. And I'm so glad she did! I've been a big fan since that day about 2 years ago. They have been classified under Speed Metal and Power Metal, and they also like to go for that epic feel. And they reached their height of epicness on the album, Nightfall in Middle Earth, which is based on J. R. R. Tolkien's The Silmarillion. And yes, Lord of the Rings is a massive influence on Blind Guardian. They tried to get their music as part of the film trilogy, but sadly failed. However, I believe that they plan to release their work for that project this year. I could have picked any song of their Nightfall in Middle Earth album, but Mirror Mirror ranks as one of my favourite songs. I love their ability to have speedy guitar rifts with gruff vocals that just wants me to nod along to. The song also has a catchy chorus, and fits perfectly in the album as Blind Guardian show their ability to tell a story in a variety of methods. The fact I love Blind Guardian so much (and I really want to see them live at some stage) makes this, in my eyes, a massive TUNE. For those of you who haven't heard the song, here is a link to YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWKgItL1xvo The poll closes in a week's time, which is Monday 9th June 2008. So make sure you vote now before the time for the forth "Tune or No Tune" poll finishes! Also, if you want to suggest a tune for "Tune or No Tune", do not hesitate to drop me a PM.
Samuraiflip05 Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I am a fan of metal, and have been having a good time getting introduced to some of the European metal. I can't say I was overly impressed with Mirror, mirror. That probably lends itself to the fact that I need to listen to it more. I did keep looking and liked Valhalla and Bard's Song(even though he sounds like Eric Idle in that one). So in the interest of being picky...I will say [glow=red,2,300]No Tune[/glow] on this one.
Auld Manriva Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 I'll give it .. A TUNE boss.. Sorta brings to mind Uriah Heep and Giant in a vague way. Not that they sound alike exactly but it's a feel. And I blew out a good pair of Cerwin Vega's with a Giant album, many years ago. Thats a plus in my book ;D
Guest Uasal Arach Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Well I'm not a Metal fan but the song wasn't to bad. It was hard to understand the lyrics but from past experience that is typical of metal. Over all...not bad. I give it a [glow=red,2,300]"TUNE"[/glow]
Majsju Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 While I am a huge metalhead, BG does not touch me in any way. No Tune.
el Nynaeve Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 I have to give this a [glow=red,2,300]No Tune[/glow]. It's just not my cup of tea to be honest and it didn't really pique my interest much.
BridMorgan Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 I gave it a tune vote. Not my favorite, but can't say I hate it.
Arrandion Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 I like metal songs, but this one is just average. NO TUNE
Corki Posted June 9, 2008 Author Posted June 9, 2008 Yet another tie. At least it wasn't voted "No Tune", otherwise there would have been one unhappy M-G. Either Tay or Brid will get the next "Tune or No Tune" up. *locks thread*
