I always kind of thought AV was pregnant from the tryst in the snow but obviously she is not.....but the way the wise ones were acting and making a big deal out of her after....

 

What I wonder is if RJ had planned on her being pregnant but then thought better of it....

 

if you read the section with the wise ones afterward. they sure are acting like AV was.

 

Mat and silver....

 

will silver kill the gholam or does it have to be mat's amulet?

 

Mat could make some silver shot and make a shotgun with a tube and fireworks and.. BAM...

 

no more gholam.

 

that is how he takes down the gholam.

I'm not sure about Avi being pregnant, but if she is or isn't I doubt RJ "changed his mind." RJ has had everyhting planned out for a long time, so if he had her getting pregnant he wouldn't change it, at least I don't think he would.

 

As for Mat, I'm almost positive that regular old silver would do nothing against the Gholam. The reason Mat's amulet hurts it, I believe, has something to to with the fact that it has similar properties as the Gholam. When the Gholam is channeled at he kind of "sucks up" the weave in identical fashion as Mat's amulet, which is too big of a coincidence. So the Gholam's only potential weakness is the amulet or something being thrown at it,but from what I've read it sounds like nothing short of bullets is going to hit the Gholam, he can dodge nearly anything, and can escape through mouseholes so...

IIRC, the Gholam is a creature of Power, and thus would be wounded when it comes into contact with a ter'angreal that disperses Power as Mat's does. So it isn't the silver that's significant, but the ter'angreal's properties that make it an effective deterrent.

i posted because of the reread i did of those sections....

 

RJ really notes that the it is made or silver repeatedly...

 

that got me thinking along the silver would do the trick line of thinking...

 

but the posts make sense....it most likely has to be the amulet.

 

i wonder if Mat will pick up something to kill the gholam when he rescues moraine.

 

or if he will make a shotgun and use his amulet as the bullet.

Maybe the Eelfinn have more items that stop the One Power, but they only granted the amulet to Mat because he wished for "a way to be free of Aes Sedai and the Power", and I'm pretty sure that they aren't going to grant him any more wishes.

 

Now, Mat might find some items in the Tower of Ghenjei, but there's no telling whether they're effective against the Power or not.

 

Then again, do we know whether his spear is effective against the Power? He certainly didn't wish for a weapon, so the fact that the Eelfinn gave it to him probably means that it is connected to either the filling of the holes in his memory, a way to be free of Aes Sedai and the Power, or the way back to Rhuidean.

 

Considering what is written on the spear, it's probably connected to the memories, but would he lose those memories if he were to throw the spear away? (Not that he ever would, since he paid for it in blood...)

I figure the spear is kinda like a receipt "thus is our treaty written etc." and ofc its a part of his payment... he was hung from it afteral.

With Avi, I think that the WO's make a big deal of her because they think she is Rand's lover, they see her as being a tie to him. It doesnt help that in his ignorance, he's done things which in Aiel custom mean you are trying to attract someone's attention!
