Movie or TV Show

I'm new to the forum and podcast so please bear with me. i'm sure this has been discussed quite a bit and have read a little. Since there has been no action on the movie front and it seems the rights will revert back to RJ, i was curious about how everyone felt about the best avenue to put RJ's wonderful books into a visual medium.

Without question the money and technology available to motion picture companies would provide the best opportunity to translate the books with the quality they deserve, but would the sheer size of the series be a detriment? Would a studio be able to do the story justice?

Or would a TV serial eg. lost, heroes, battlestar galactica be a better format? there would be more opportunity to flesh out the characters and address the stroy as a whole. But and there always is one...the cost could be astonishing causing reluctance for a TV studio to pick it up.

Sorry if I was long winded thanks for your input in advance

I don't think a TV series would really work myself.. Movies would be nice though. TV Series just wouldn't work because you'd be lucky to get a single book into a single season, and you'd have to ensure you lasted for 12 seasons... kind of tough to do.

A tv-serie would be the perfect choice. All books does not require an entire season, so it would be quite possible to make it 7-8 seasons, which is a quite common length. Just make sure the script is 90% written first, so it's all  neatly planned out.

I would not like to see it as anime. Animated yes, but not anime. It is viable in either form, television or movie. I think if you took a lot of the imagery and description out of the books there is a much more realistic view of how to fit it into a movie. I would love it to have the Peter Jackson treatment and feel even if some has to be squenched. I am hesitant about TV because of the way TV works. There is not guaranteee it will make it past the first season or even the first six episodes due to the need for viewer support. I think the best they could do is take the Eye of the World, make it a mini on a genre specific stations (like SciFi) and hope it sticks and has viewers. If it gains viewers, then it could move into a series starting with The Great Hunt or even another mini. Thing is with TV, actors age. How would that translate to the timeline Robert Jordan gave us? So that brings you back to animated.

Whatever that case, I would just like to see it brought to life somehow.

I personally hope that they never do it, but if they do, I'd rather see it live action. They can do such good quality live action these days that it would look really good, that and I'm not a fan of any sort of animated/cartoon/anime/whatever

It would all depend on the production crew you put in place. If it is handled with respect and done right either in movie or tv form it sould do well. If it is done badly us fans will be very upset and would give the makers a lot of grief
