The main thing to remember though is that they were never used, probably never really even tested much, during the AoL.  LTT struck too soon and then the male one at least had to be hidden quickly so non of the men would find it.

Yes and no...

The Keys weren't originally hidden to keep them from male channelers going insane.  It was to keep them from the Shadow.

The plan to use the Choedan Kal to contain the bore failed before it could be implemented.  Shadow forces over ran the location where the Ter'angreal access keys were being made.  Lews Therin wasn't really left with any choice but to act.  Failing to attack would have given the Shadow time to realize just what it was they had captured.  The Choedan Kal were likely just as capable of completely tearing open the the Dark One's prison and freeing him as they were of containing him.

All of the keys were lost. In the end that was what drove Lews Therin to attempt the sealing--the light was losing, the hope of the Choedan Kal had been lost, and after several attempts to recover the keys had failed Lews Therin gained the votes he needed in the Hall, only by then Latra Posae Decume had approached all of the female Aes Sedai strong enough and gotten them to sign a deed swearing they wouldn't be involved in Lews Therin's plans (the Fateful Concord), but even before that the keys had been lost.

Even if they had had the choedan kal, however, they couldn't have managed the cleansing without Shadar Logoth... indeed, i believe the lack of the cancelation effect of Shadar Logoth is what killed those hundred Aes Sedai that cleansed the Eye.

They wouldn't have been able to cleanse the taint.

The taint of the DO was attracted to the taint of Shadar Logoth, and they cancelled each other out.

There was no taint in Aridhol before the breaking, because Aridhol didn't exist for another thousand years or so...

Yet they created the Eye of the World, and perhaps with the aid of the Choedan Kal, they might have done something similar, on a grander scale--even to the point of a Cleansing, without killing every channeler involved, although that's pure speculation of course, as we don't know how they created the Eye.

Edit: Bah...didn't see Lucker's post just above mine, but I'm not deleting mine anyway.

perhaps...but it never mattered because, as luckers pointed out, the women were never going to be a part of the link. this is why nothing was ever attempted before rand, and thankfully so, because without the "filter" of SL, it might have been far worse than a breaking of the world.

There aren't similar to Wells.  Wells don't allow you to draw more than you can handle normally for one thing.  So a Well that just keeps refilling itself would really be pointless.  Once you were in an area you needed the well, it wouldn't be able to refill.
