Hi everyone, first time poster here in this community. I want to call out that I recently posted this same message a couple of days in other Wot communities on the internet, but I wanted to send it here to increase visibility. Thanks for reading and hope you enjoy the game!!
 

I started reading Wot for the first time as a sophomore in high school after watching the first season of the amazon show. Since then, I've been an avid fan of the books. I completed my first re-read this past January, and I'm still waiting patiently for my leatherbound.
 

What inspired me to make this game was another interest of mine, Pokemon. For the past couple of months, I've been playing this game called pokedle. In this game, you have to guess a pokemon based off identifying information you get based on guessing different pokemon such as type, generation, color, etc. This is a great challenge since there are 1000+ pokemon and its cool way to challenge friends. So I wanted to see if there was something similar for WoT or any of the other series I read.
 

After doing some research I found some already made solutions, the best Wheel of Time one there is https://wheeldle.com/ . This game was great but and uses a similar guessing strategy that I had in my mind but I thought as a cool challenge I could make an even better game.
 

How it works is simple. You type in any character and then as you type in the character, the site will reply to you with information with that character. It will say, "Hey this person was introduced in Book 1, 2, 3, 4." "Hey this person is Tairen or this person is Cairhien" "Hey this person can't use the one power or this person is an Aes Sedai." Then you use that information to try to figure out who the character is. If you get stuck there's a hint system to help you out that can tell you categories you have not found or brief descriptions of the character. There is only one challenge a day but u can go back and replay old games to practice. I also added google o-auth so if you want to track your stats or streaks.
 

I cut down the playable character amount to around 180 core characters so you would not have to remember the name of random characters, but as a challenge mode in the future we could add all the characters.
 

The game is fun, but I have ambitions to grow this into something greater. In the long term, I want to make this into a fantasy wide wordle game. Imagine a game where you need to guess a random character from not just Wot but the character could also be in the Lord of the Rings, The Cosmere, Jade City etc. What better way to challenge your friends book knowledge than testing it across the whole fantasy universe not just Wot.
 

So for anyone reading this I want you to see this as not just a random fan made game but the start of something great that can be played by anyone who loves fantasy.

Welcome to Dragonmount 🙂 I had a go at your game, it is quite fun. How many characters are in the database? Seeing as WoT has something like 2.9k named characters I imagine you had to draw a line somewhere 🙂

 

What are you looking to do with the game? I see that you have added other fantasy series. Must be quite a project.

What I did was add only pov characters as a starting point, which came out to around 150 characters. This meant some key characters were excluded such as Aludra. I want to eventually have multiple levels for each book, so a beginner level would be only pov characters, and then a challenge mode would be every character. Also a mode to only show characters from books 1-6 or 1-9 depending on how far you are at in the series.

And yeah your right I have some big ambitions for the game, I want to build our similar style games for most of our favorite popular modern fantasy books, from there I have some idea for some brand new games that are similar in testing one's book knowledge.

Effectively I want this to be the one stop site for all fantasy trivia/brain teaser style games. Hence when you go to turnofthewheel.com now it sends you to fantasdle.com which is a new domain i bought for it to be more encompassing.

Now obviously, this is pretty ambitious but the game is genuinely fun and I feel this could be a great game that the whole fantasy reading community can interact with.

For now, I'm planning on adding one series a week until i get to around 10 or 15 series idk which yet. From there, Ill get into adding the challenge modes/more characters/ quality of life. and then from there maybe some new games. There's a patch notes tab on the site if you want to keep posted on the progress on the site but I might make a discord or reddit if anyone is super interested in helping out.

I tried each category but I totally sucked at it LOL I am familiar with main characters of each book series/show but just not a vast enough library in my head to be good at it. But I do like the style, it was really cool.

I got 2 guesses - but I will freely admit only because Agelmar was not an option after guessing Nynaeve, lol. It is good. Maybe we could even use this in events or as raising points, seems like a good idea to me.

What do you mean by events/raising points? Sorry if this is a naive question, new here.

Good thing I'm already an Aes Sedai then, cause I only got the first one in 2 guesses but when I went back to the day before I had to use 2 hints and still gave up for the answer lololololol

Heavy is talking about an aspect of the WT Social Group. To go up in Levels you have to take part in Threads and Events... so I think he was wondering about your game in that way.

 

It's always lovely to have a techy person join. Every time one does join I ask if they would be able to rebuild the Black Towers One Power Roller game. No joy as yet though lol

 

But we do have the social groups for hanging out and chatting. If you join , you can see their hidden boards. WT, Band and maybe Shayol Ghul are active at the moment.

 

And the discussion boards are available too!

No worries man there was a bunch of characters when pulling the data to make the game, I completely blanked on. When there's 14 books and thousands of characters its impossible to keep them in your head but this game might be a great way to try to remember a lot of them.

I know for a fact when I was reading both during my original and re-read I had this app on my phone called wotCC flutter, which allowed me to lookup characters and get information on them based off what book I was on because it was so hard to keep track(especially the trillion aes sedai members lol).

Anyways tho glad your enjoying the game, got more updates coming soon.

Aside from the corrections we've been discussing in PMs, I have some suggestions for the game itself:

1. Don't make the character name green when it's an incorrect choice. On several questions I've made an incorrect guess that matched all the criteria; their name showed up green.
2. You're probably already planning on doing this, but expand the "share" results button to include an emoji representation of the player's guess, like wordle and wheeldle do. Maybe also add https:// in front of fantasdl.com so it becomes a link in e.g. Reddit, Discord, or Facebook.
3. I would recommend treating New Spring as being between books 10 and 11 (its published order). If you ask any given WoT fan which book Lan first appears in, they're going to say TEOTW way more often than NS. That said, as a programmer I recognize that it's probably a lot simpler to just treat it as book 0.
4. It'd be nice to be able to see one's own history, but obviously that has the potential to cost a lot of storage.

Other comments:

1. The ability to go back and play previous days is awesome. Really knocked it out of the park starting on a 1st of the month that was also a Sunday, lol.
2. Really nice interface.
3. I really like that the number of the question is included in the share text.
