DRAGONMOUNT

A WHEEL OF TIME COMMUNITY

Hi all!

I had been wanting to read The Wheel of Time for years - since I was a teenager - and I decided to finally get to it at the grand old age of 30. I wish I had indeed read it back when I was a teenager and had the chance to be part of all the discussions and speculations and the wait for each book to come out but hey, I guess the most important thing in the end is experiencing the vast and rich world of the books. I'm currently on chapter 42 of The Eye of the World and excited to finish it soon and move on to The Great Hunt

Thanks for having me!

Hi Alyssa, welcome to DM. There are many spoilers of EVERYTHING here so be careful.

Are you watching the TV show? I always wondered what that would be like for a non book reader.

We have the discussion boards here, but we also have forum games and our Orgs... which are groups you can join to be part of a WoT type experience.

Also you make me feel ancient lol

Welcome, Alyssa 🙂 Always fun to meet someone new on Dragonmount.

Existing book discussions will be full of spoilers, but if you start your own threads with any issues, questions or just sharing your experience (everyone here will be so jelly that you are to experience it, we all wish we could again) I'm sure everyone will be super careful not to spoil anything for you.

Thank you! 😊I will do my best to avoid spoilers, I'll steer clear of the book discussions for now 🫣 I have decided not to start watching the show until I've read at least the first 5-6 books, because I don't want it to interfere with my reading experience! Does each season cover 1 book pretty much or it's a bit more mixed? I have heard the show has changed a lot of things and not everyone likes it for that reason, but I definitely want to watch it at some point.

Thank you, great to meet you too 😊 I have missed being part of a book forum! (I was an active member of a Harry Potter forum as a kid 🫣 when I was about 10-13 and made a lot of friends from there lol, some of them still very close friends to this day, and I do get nostalgic for those days.)

Welcome Alyssa. As someone that started reading theses books when they first came out(I read EotW in 1990), I can tell you that waiting for the new books wasn't that much fun, lol. Well for me anyways. I do partially envy your experiencing this grand story for the first time.

As for the show, season 1 mostly dealt with Book 1. Season 2 mostly with book 2. Season 3 is supposed to be mostly book 4 actually, some bits of book 3. I can understand you not wanting  to have the show spoil the book experience. I will say I am enjoying the show.

I hope you enjoy your time here. There is generally something interesting going on in the orgs or game boards.

We are, by and large, a nice bunch of people. And of course we take spoilers seriously, we love books and storytelling 😄 No one likes spoilers. Well, my Gran did. She liked whodunnits but liked them to have a good ending, so she would read the last chapter first to see if she approved. Thankfully she would have totally forgotten the ending by the time she got to the end of the book but at least she knew she would enjoy it. I aspire to have that level of practicality one day.

I have heard that especially during the so-called 'slog' it was painful to wait for a book for ages only to have not too much happen in the next book 😅 (I have watched quite a few spoiler-free booktube reviews of WoT so have heard about 'the slog' many times haha)

Oh I see, in that case maybe I'll start the show after I've finished book 4 and will share my thoughts on it afterwards! I'm glad you have a positive opinion of the show.

Oh haha reminds me of my childhood friend who said she never started a book before reading the last sentence, or was it the last page... This approach could never be for me!

Yes. The waiting was the worst. There were two times when itwas bad. First when I was just starting.  I was broke so had to wait for the paperbacks to come out. Then when it got to the end and RJ was taking like 3 years per book, in part due to his illness. When the story didn't  progress enough for me, it was kinda disappointing. Silver lining though it usually meant I "had to" reread the series to remember what was happening when the next book came out, lol.

Hi Alyssa! Welcome to DM! I’m Cairos Sedai. I’m the Head Clerk of the Gray Ajah over at the WT social group and also the MG of the Band of the Red Hand. Come visit us, I promise we don’t bite. Well some of the reds do snuggle bites lol. And some of the band members tackle each other lol.

I remember the wait for KoD and then only to think "Oh man is this it?" until they announced Brandon Sanderson was taking over. Then it was hitting Google to figure out if I should be elated or concerned.
