The heat of the day has finally given up to the cool of evening, but not before black thunderclouds have built up along the coastline. Lightning flashes, thunder cracks and a few drops of rain act as a prelude to the coming torrent. Barm watches as sheets of rain sweep off of the sea and towards the cliff. He scoots further in between the boulders just as it hits, just for a little more shelter. The rain pours down, obscuring any sight past a few feet. The corner of his mouth turns up at the thought of the birds or the tribesmen trying to hunt in this. It will also cover any sign, so if anyone else has made it this far, at least their trail will be wiped away. Hail begins to fall, sending chunks of ice the size of pebbles to bounce off of Barm’s head and back.  Barm cradles his head in his hands, and waits for this misery to end. It lasts a little longer than he expects, as storms sometimes will. The hail stops first, then the rain, ending as suddenly as it started. Barm moves to take a look and sees a completely different landscape; drifts of hail have built up like snow, completely covering the ground with a layer of ice. But the heat of the coast is melting that ice fast and clouds of fog and mist drift over the landscape. What little Barm can see has been thrashed by the storm, with sticks and leaves covering the melting patches of ice. It’s getting darker now and what was once a sunny day has turned into an eerie dusk. Hearing ice crunch just behind him he does not hesitate to pull both Sinta blades free and pivot to meet an attack. Half expecting to see a dazed member of their party, he is shocked to find four Jaorlin tribesmen, swords and spears leveled straight at him. The only thing he can do is what they least expect, so he dives towards them sweeping his blades out before he tucks, lands on his right shoulder and pops up in the middle of their party.  One of his blades finds the throat of a tribesman, sliding through easily and exiting the same way. He forces the sharpened butt of the blade into the sternum of the warrior to his right. Not a killing blow, but not exactly a good morning kiss, either. He whirls to the right, spinning the blade in his left hand to cut into the next opponent when his arm is impaled on a spear-point. The blade drops from his fingers, his momentum stopped and everything starts to move in slow motion.  The warrior holding the spear that pierces his arm at the bicep pushes him over and on to the ground. Another raises a wicked looking blade over his head with both hands, preparing to stab downward. A silver blade shoots out of his heart, and then disappears. The warrior pauses and Barm has to wonder if he is imagining things. Then the blade appears again, a bright cutlass, decapitating the warrior. Dsage leaps towards the warrior pinning Barm down and runs him through as well.  “Pirate brothers have to stick together!” He smiles and reaches down to help Barm up. “No D, There’s one more….” But it’s too late. With an unearthly cry, the warrior that Barm had struck in the chest must have switched to a blowgun and has shot poor Dsage in the neck with a poison dart. Barm uses his good arm to throw a palm dagger into the warrior’s right eye.  The clearing returns to silence. Barm staggers towards the bundles that the Jaorlins had been carrying, hoping to find some antidote for the poison. Instead, he finds Dbob’s head, eyes wide and mouth frozen in mid-scream.  Voices come from further down the trail, and before long the rest of the group appears. Questions fire from every person before Barm finally silences the group.  “Let’s not push our luck. Get down that cliff face before it’s completely dark and lets get back to the ship.”

A voice comes from the group.

“Barm, wait. We think Dsage might be an assassin.”

“That’s ridiculous, he’s just…”

Dsage grabs his arm.

“It’s alright, the witch saw this coming. Let them lynch me. I’m a goner any way and it will probably hurt less.” The poison has already appeared in inky, veinous lines across one side of his face.

“I know. But it won’t hurt a bit, I promise”

Hey - sorry I was a bit late. Unavoidable RL. You know, if I could get paid for hanging out on DM all day.....Anyway, Euromeeters, have an awesome time!

Everyone else, looks like were going to have to pass some time by hunting on the threads for pieces of bonestone...

OK, folks, here's the situation.

We have 14 players left alive.  Of them, 3 are recognized and confirmed innocents:

Me, Barm, Talya.

Another, Rufae, I can tell you that I have private information that leads me to believe he MUST be innocent.  I can't reveal what that information is right now, as it will hinder me in later gameplay, but I'm going to ask that you trust me when I tell you that he is innocent.

That leaves us with 4 known innocents, and 10 unknowns.

In the morning, it will very likely be 3 known innocents, and 10 unknowns (with one of me, rufae or talya nightkilled, likely me or Talya, unless the healer gets lucky).

Finder, I am going to propose something a little bit radical.  If all 4 known innocents are still alive tomorrow, I want you to reveal [glow=red,2,300]whether or not you find an assassin[/glow].  Here's why:

You find an innocent.  You reveal, and identify the innocent.  That means that there will be 6 known innocents (the finder, the nightview target, and me, Rufae, Barm & Talya).  If we are alive because the healer was successful, that leaves 8 unknowns - all 6 of us line up on the most suspicious of the unknowns, and by night, its 6 v. 7.  The healer protects the finder, and one of the other knowns gets killed.  That makes it 5 known innocents v. 7 unknowns.

Except, the finder got another view.  If the finder found an innocent, then it becomes 6 on 6 - 6 known innocents v. 6 unknowns.  Once we get to even, we win - because if we keep taking out an unknown, the finder will either have a greater chance of identifying an evil (as the number of unknowns dwindle) or we have a greater chance of lynching one.

If the finder found an assassin, excellent. we lynch him, and the day ends with 5 v. 6, and a third dead assassin (out of, I would assume, 4/5) - and we get even the next day (or lynch another one).

The beauty of it is, the assassins [glow=red,2,300]must[/glow] try to nightkill a known innocent each night, because if they kill an unknown, they thin out their own cover.  And if the finder is known and announcing innocents, then we replace the dead each night, so even that doesn't save them.

In short, if all 4 of us are alive - and as long as the healer hasn't been nightkilled - reveal at daybreak whether you found a guilty player or not.

Question about blue bonestone - if an evil player had used the bonestone to change a player to guilty, would that have been announced on the thread?

Posted

Because Talya was already innocent, and the assassins knew that, it was safe to describe the action. In a case where any player would have changed alignments, an announcement would have been made that the blue bonestone had been used by Player X, and that the player of their choice has had a change of alignment.

Thank you.  So had an evil team member found the blue bonestone, they could have used it to turn a player evil without revealing themselves as evil and without revealing their new recruit.

Yes - why does this feel like a cross examination? ;D

"And you, Mr. Dead-Dread-Robert-Wes-pirate-whoever you are, are you claiming that you were not aware that unsafe conditions existed on that island? We are talking about many people being decapitated, stabbed, darted, and eaten and you sir, treat everything as if it were a game. Is this not true?"

"Yarr"

Your honor, may I treat the witness as a hostile pirate?

Good strategy Kivam seriously.

For Dsage

Kivam, I'm not so sure about your theory. A Finder reveal is always risky. Though if they decide to go with your plan, and reveal an innocent finding, please check me! ;) And that is also assuming that your new alliance of innocents gangs up on the right person each round.

For my part, I'm inclined to agree with the Hax suspicion. I'll elaborate on this more later.

Cases! Come and get your Cases!

Haxorsist!

Hax has been laying low, as per the usual. I know for me, the move really screwed up my DM-sync of things, so hopefully this will help myself, and others.

His first post is time zone related.

Hax starts out with a random vote to Rufae. He says he keeps forgetting to check Fiddles, which I assume is his excuse for inactivity?

He points out to everyone that Barm should indeed be considered innocent, quoting our ever-so-dreadie pirate mod.

~Votes for Kivam to scout.~

He does another random, out of the blue vote to SinisterDeath, because he “wants to feel special.”

After many, many pages of text (loving and wishing for the alts at this moment--cases are so much easier to do), he asks the question heard round the world: Do we lynch, or allow a random kill??

Why is everyone voting for SD? I did that as a joke, and I didn't think anyone else would actually vote for him. ^^

Unvote: SinisterDeath

I vote Kivam! No, just kidding.

Err, Loki's the one with the most votes, right?

Vote: Loki

His next post concerns this:

Lynching someone might give us some information, on voting patterns or whatever. I don't know. You guys are the pros. Random killings doesn't give us much, so I say lynch>random killing even if it's a bad lynch. I was hoping we'd lynch someone, so we get 1 lynching and 4 random killings. That way, there's a smaller chance that the confirmed innocents get killed.
I guess that means he's for the lynch...

And his final post:

I’m gonna call the advise from Kivam and raise you one from Alys. Both suggested lynching Dsage.

Vote: Dsage

And that is it. He hasn't been posting much (and he isn't alone in that), but he is definitely keeping track of what is going on.

EDIT: I'm working on two others at the moment, but my daughter isn't having it, so I will be back when she starts her nap.

Yes, I'm such a smarty-pants.

I never post much on these games. The only one I posted alot on was the Trolloc Game on SG, where I was evil with you Far, and you know how that one went. ^^ (For the rest of you, that was the fastest good guy win in history. :D)

Also the thing I said about Fiddles was early in the game, while I still actually wasn't used to check out Fiddles. Later, I got the habit of it, but my not posting much doesn't have anything to do with not checking Fiddles. I was just annoyed that I had to read all the text.

Man, I'm badass aren't I.

I have to say, I do like Kivam's strategy. It does have its failings of course, but it could work very well.
