Elgee put up her hand, and obviously has not learnt her lesson since! But that was the start of her life-long obsession with Dragonmount. Also in March she was raised to Accepted, and in April 2007 apparently shocked everyone (except of course Mystica) by joining the Red Ajah. Not long after that she was raised to Aes Sedai.

Enter the Role-Playing Side: After the Great Exodus (if you know, you know) Elgee was asked to join the Role-Playing side in February 2008 as Assistant Division Leader and Mistress of Novices of the White Tower, then promoted to Division Leader in September 2009.

In the mean time, at the Social Side (formerly known as The Orgs): In 2008 Elgee joined the Black Tower Social Group, where she was eventually promoted to Asha’Man, then Attack Leader and also Chosen.

In 2009 she stepped away from the BT, because: In October 2009 she was also appointed as Keeper of the Chronicles (ie Assistant Social Group Leader) at the White Tower & Warders Social Group, and then in February 2011 as Amyrlin Seat (ie Social Group Leader).

The 2 became 1, but not in the best way: Even after being made Group Leader of the White Tower & Warders Social side, Elgee remained as such until September 2012, when she had to resign due to ill health. Both the RP and the Social Groups were very active at the time, and she loved both equally, but felt that she only had enough spoons for the Social side, which did not require writing long RPs on top of the usual admin work. In Elgee’s words: “I’ve missed it so badly, which is why right now I’m so very happy and excited for the 1 to become 2 again!”

Joining the White Tower: 

The Dark One

Dragonmount is about to undergo some major server infrastructure changes in the very near future. 

Most notably, I'm moving the ENTIRE WEBSITE to a cloud-hosting service. This means that Dragonmount will “live in the cloud” using virtual servers and will no longer exist on the computers running in my closet. This will be the first time in our 24-year history that we won’t be running on hardware that I (or a friend) owned.

How it'll work:

1. I haven’t decided when, but the website will be offline for several hours someday soon. Probably at night. Maybe as soon as this evening.
2. Stage 1 will be that I will put the site into “Offline Mode” so that any visitors who come to the site see a maintenance page.
3. I’ll then copy all data from the existing servers to the new servers. 
4. After that, I will “flip the switch” so that all new incoming traffic will go to the cloud version of DM. Visitors to the site will either see a dead “Cannot find page” or will see the temporary offline page. Or maybe some other error page. Who knows.
5. I will run a million tests to make sure everything works.
6. I will fix the broken stuff. Hopefully. 
7. If things break badly after several hours, I will revert back to the old DM. Then we’ll try again later. 
8. But if things work great, then I’ll open the gates back up and DM will live on forever in the clouds. YAY!

I will update this post and/or reply to it when that task is complete.  I will also make a Twitter announcement when I bring the site down.

Best case scenario:  DM is offline for a few hours and works great after that. 

Why am I doing this?

• The site will exist in the cloud and not just my closet at home. 
• No need for me to manage hardware issues (like dead or degraded hard drives). 
• Lightning fast networking
• Even stronger firewall protection (although our current setup is awesome)
• Better load balancing
• If my house blows up, the site will live on. 
• If I ever decide to move to a new house, I won’t have to limit my search to places with ultra-fast fiber. 
• Because it’s 2022 and who the hell runs a website from their CLOSET?

For 15+ years, Dragonmount has offered free "DMail" where you could get YourName@dragonmount.com for free. This was a service provided by Google Workspace.  Back when we signed up, this was a free service.  Google extended that service to us for free for all these years. But now, alas, the Wheel turns, and Google notified me a while back that it would discontinue their free offering. We had the option to keep it going, but the cost was beyond what our humble website budget could realistically afford. Additionally, it would be overly cumbersome to set up billing for each user that was currently using the service if we chose to continue. 

Dates:

All users that have actively logged into their Dragonmount email in the past 1 year were notified back in January that their email would be shut down. 

All email accounts that have not logged in for the past year or more have already been disabled. If you need something from your currently account, you have until April Friday, April 22, 2022, to let me know. Contact me by email, Jason@drgonmount.com.

If you have a recently-active Dragonmount email address (from the past 1 year) and if you would like to transfer your email archives, you will need to follow these migration instructions.

With the show coming out and attracting new fans (and bringing back old ones!) it only seemed appropriate to begin a completely new Roleplay world and club--one that turns back the Wheel to a beginning; that is, Bel Tine in the year 998 NE. 

This new RP will be based on the show and, in general, will follow along the timeline there, albeit on a slower pace as RPs do.

Right now, we are seeking both players, and staff to set up the world and get it going!

As you may know, for many years we have had RP at Dragonmount, pretty much since its inception back in the 1990s. Between that long time frame and the 15 books of The Wheel of Time that have been released over the years, you can imagine that almost everything in the books has already happened in our Legacy Roleplay Group though with our own twist on it. This group is still active and will continue to be a fun place for long time fans to play in a well established world. We're implementing some changes to the way that you log into Dragonmount.  

How It Currently Works

Currently Dragonmount allows you to login using your username. That’s how it’s been done since we opened in 1998. But usernames are always public-facing, which means that people or groups with ill-intent could easily target s specific account and try to to that account using brute force.  For example, they could take the name “Jason Denzel” and try lots of popular password combinations, hoping to break in. Now, we have plenty of ways to detect these brute force attacks and block them.  But still, it’s a modern best practice to not use a username for a login anymore. 

What's Changing

Beginning Thursday, June 24 July 8 all users will log onto Dragonmount using an email address instead of a username. Your existing password will continue to work like normal.  In addition, users will also be able to login using their Facebook, Twitter, or Google accounts.  (We have plans to implement AppleID login at a future date and to offer optional Two-Factor authentication.). We've extended the date to give people more time to validate their email. We'll make the change after we send out July newsletter.

Pick a theme and make a 100 pictures with the theme, they don't all need to be by the same medium. May through August.

The term "Aes Sedai" means "Servants of All" in the Old Tongue. The White Tower and Warders Social Group has used the philosophy of Servants of All to create a social setting based on the hierarchy, purpose and set-up of the White Tower and Warders in the WoT series. This inspires the way in which we interact and some of the activities which we organize, although we are a social community and not a role playing group.

Do I need to join the club to post?

You do need to "join" the Club to post in it, yes. But you don't need to sign up to follow the path of Aes Sedai or Warders to just hang around and have fun with us here at the Club.

We also need you to read this thread before posting anywhere in the Club. You don't want an Aes Sedai to Balefire you for stealing her Kaf, or something! And Bob is dangerous to the uninitiated.

Why should I join the club?

We offer people of varying common interests - related to the books or otherwise - a chance to find their niche with like minded people in one of the Ajahs or the Warders guild. Whether you become a Warder or an Aes Sedai (here males can be Aes Sedai and females can be Warders), at the White Tower and Warders Social Group, you can live out that philosophy and have fun doing it!

There are indeed!

When you join, you will normally choose the path of either the Aes Sedai or the path of the Warder (if you're unsure which way to go, you can take your time to decide - no pressure.)

If you choose the path of the Aes Sedai, you will first become a novice, and then and Accepted, before finally choosing your Ajah and being Raised to Aes Sedai.

If you choose the path of the Warder, you will first become an algai, then a Manshima, and finally choose your Discipline before being Promoted to Der'Manshima.

There will be all kinds of Events, Pranks, Threads, Discussions. Aspirants (Novices, Algai, Accepted, Manshima) will join in classes and events and maybe even do tasks in order to fulfill their Raising Requirements.

Full Ranking Members (Aes Sedai & Der'Manshima) can also do various things to earn Points.

Entertainment is pretty laid back.

Occasionally we have a monthly theme (Like Horror during the month of October), aimed at generating activity. We have Forum Games, and if enough people sign up we do an NFL Pick'em game, and Fantasy-Sports leagues.

Entertainment Club doesn't employ a point or rank system at this time. In the future if members express interest in it, something could happen.

Wilson Grooms:

This tale began almost a year ago, thinking I might have a sinus issue. Wrong!  It took a while, but in February of 2020 it was determined that I have a cancer on the extreme rear of my tongue.  The cause, HPV, Human Papilloma Virus. You see Television ads urging you to get your kids inoculated against this. Do it please. There was no such vaccine back in the day.

The cancer was a squamous cell.  Doctors called it a “garden variety” and were all confident that with radiation and chemo they could render me cancer free. For the next seven weeks our daughter Marisa picked me up at 8 am Monday through Friday for radiation.  Chemotherapy was once a week for the same seven weeks. The doctors were honest that the treatments are intense. The last two weeks of treatments and the first two weeks of “healing” I spent curled up in a ball.

We had to wait months to repeat the tests that would let us know whether the bad actor had be eradicated. Waiting isn’t my strong suit.

In late August a PET scan indicated “something” was still there. Doctors were divided as to what it was. It could be residual cancer.  Most thought it to be inflammation as part of the healing process. But I wasn’t feeling better. In fact I had been suffering intense headaches which began in late June. The site was visually scoped (also not fun) frequently to monitor any changes. Nothing. So in November we repeated the biopsy.

It’s still there. Worse, it has compromised my tongue and larynx. And it has mutated. It is now a very rare and aggressive Sarcomatoid spindle cell tumor.  The only option offered was a drastic surgery to remove all the tongue and voice box. Before making that life altering decision a full Tumor Board of specialists reviewed my case.

Because of the type of cancer it has become, the drastic surgery proposed by my Surgical Oncologist is no longer a viable option.  Surgery would make day to day life difficult, would not reduce the pain I am dealing with and would not extend life.  Studies show that with a sarcomatoid cancer and this surgery, patients do not live beyond 12 months. And a painful 12 months at that.

The treatment deemed to give me the best chance is chemotherapy combined with immunotherapy. I will have my first infusion on the 30th of November. The regime is two weeks on, one week off for as long as the treatments are working. I am not certain as of now how often I will be taking the immunotherapy drug.

This specific treatment for this type of cancer has been only used for about four years. There are patients who were in the study when it began and are still doing well. Thus it has not been determined what an average life expectancy may be. If my cancer does not respond, I am looking at six months to perhaps a year. Please pray that I see positive results. Even if results are positive, this cancer will never be eradicated by the treatments.  The best I can hope for is that it goes into remission and that the treatments keep it there. But if God wants to work a miracle, I’m okay with that too. I know it’s selfish, but that’s what I pray for.

I ask for your prayers for my family that they have the strength to help me in this fight.
