Rand's channeling at the end of TGS was surely powerful enough to be felt across the world by any male channeler, since he says he's holding more of the Power than even when he cleansed saidin.  Why didn't anyone onscreen in ToM take note of it?  Or did I just miss when it happened?  (I'm still rereading ToM right now.)

He's not holding THAT much power, not even close. He level an entire city with the amount he used at SL, not just a single mansion.

Maybe you've got the wrong scene, but during VoG, Rand specifically says he was holding as much power as he held when created Dragonmount as LTT, and when he cleansed the source. Then he pulls more.

In answer to the question, I find it weird as well. We don't see much of Narishma and Flinn during the book, but Androl, and those with him, should have comented on it at one point.

the key would be holding, if he was weaving with it, then he would have been sensed, but since we was just holding it a person would need to be much closer to sense it.

Hey there. Welcome. They were inexperienced. Nynaeve is probably the biggest problem here, because she had reason enough to be mad, and Amico shouldn't be able to hold her on her own. Perhaps fear got the better of her, I can't recall. Egwene's and Elayne's abilities were undeveloped, so they're less of an issue (their potentials notwithstanding).

to add on this, during the timeframe they don't know they can push against shields, so they seem to just hit it and give up

As for who died because of Perrin, Plently of unnamed characters died due to his mistakes and unwillingness to step up. I'm thinking in the Two River's battles, and later with his Faiel kidnapping. He did pretty damn good saving Rand from the sisters, I don't think any people died because of him then, but he took command, and told people what to do (first time).

reading this made me realize Perrin is the only one of the three who was surprise attacked, and had to do a tactical retreat

I'm not really convinced a woman melding the flow would have solved the problem because taint affects a woman in a circle too. Maybe Cadsuane was simply wrong. It happened before. Anyway it shouldn't matter now that saidin is clean.

I have been wondering about that, what happens if a woman go around and links with a man all the time, let us say we have a pair of wilder siblings who do it by instinct, will she then go insane as well as him eventually?

Not quite sure where the idea of men and women linking, prior to the cleansing, would lead to the women also going mad.

I might be wrong but I don't recall ever hearing of the like other than from modern AS's who think or believe this but don't actually have a clue if it's actually true or not.

Women in the AoL stopped linking with men because they were going insane not because they thought they would also go insane.

Think about this...if it were actually true, then Nynaeve would have been exposed to it in massive quantities when her and Rand linked to cleanse saidin and there has been absolutely no indication at all of this happening.

Also not sure where the idea of the women using the Domination Band were subjected to the taint either.

The danger of the Band for the women was that the man would eventually excert some control back through them onto the women.

Again, I could be wrong but I don't think I am.

I think that it depends on which leads the circle, if she does by working with saidin she would gain taint side effects, if it is him she would remain sane.

I don't have the quote to hand, but doesn't Lanfear say after partially shielding Asmodean that it's possible to escape you just need to accept pain? Although we haven't seen much evidence of this, Rand doesn't experience pain (as such) when escaping from the box. Maybe Lanfear is just referring to a 'partial' shield

It could be that Lanfear is referring to another way to break through a shield, there are ways to do the same thing with the One Power than on your average Windows computer after all. Now a shield in itself is not painful, if the channeler where not holding the Power at the moment they probably would not even know they where shielded before they try to channel, unless the shield is put in place very roughly, if the channeler is holding the power however being shielded is described as quite a shock like being dropped in ice cold water so there are some discomfort there. The backlash that comes if the weaves a channeler is holding is cut is also uncomfortable, and over channeling causes pain, it is not then far fetched that there are ways to break out of a shield that might be painful, even if the method that LTT teach Rand is not.

I think that is in reference to that particular shield, which allows him to channel a trickle, so in effect if would be like squeezing through a space much smaller that he needed until he broke the shield.

If you need to be considerably stronger than someone to be able to shield them while they are holding the Source, how does Nyn block Mogi in Tanchico? This always bugged me.

Didn't Nynaeve throw something at Moghedian's face and was able to shield her as she recoiled from that?

she did it to distract her, I am not sure if it hit her or not, but it caused her to move strength from the duel to deal with it, which allowed Nyn to shield her.

    To be honest even if no one from the WF or WO ever swaps sides the White Tower gains invaluable knowledge. The accepted which go there will be the best of the White Tower and they will gain;

    1) Exceptional knowledge on the wielding of Air.

    2) How to wield flows without waving your hands. something which neither WO or WF do, this is a massive advantage.

    3) Leadership skills from different cultures blending together to form a more adept and powerful union of skills.

    4) Bargaining training from those who are widely regarded as the most adept on the planet.

    5) How to safely unravel weaves, which uncommonly hard thus giving them greater knowledge of how things work.

    and most importantly;

    6) They can teach these skills to future generations of Aes Sedai, even the ones who do not go to train in the other institutions will eventually gain from it.

    2) depends on how they initially learn the weave, if they initially learn it with hand waving, they will always have to use the hand waving

So, I searched for this everywhere and was unable to find it, but I had a thought earlier.

A few months after MoL is out, does anyone think TOR or Brandon will release the notes RJ left behind? Would be really interesting to look at, and I'd easily pay quite a bit to get a copy of em.

I think once MoL is out they plan do to a full encyclopedia type deal

Traditional Aes Sedai healing is non-specific; it heals everything or the patient dies. It works on infections, hangovers, and the taint from shadowspawn weapons. I don't recall a specific quote, but I presume it works on poisons as well.

So why doesn't being healed so often interfere with Egwene's doses of forkroot?

A channeler seems to be able to direct where Healing goes. There were some cases where wounds were left un-Healed and the patient still living. On the top of my head; Crossroads of Twilight Prologue, last section.

As for why the Healings did not remove the forkroot effects, perhaps the Healings were not directed toward the area/areas the forkroot affected. I take they only Healed Egwene's wounds.

Another factor might be the timings of forkroot & Healing.

i think it may be because they ingested it, thus it is in the blood stream and must be removed by filtration, rather than it being a singular event.

I'm still not sure what you're asking. Are you looking for the Shadow's hand in occurrences where the Lightsiders don't know who's to blame, or that we don't?

For the former, I don't think anyone caught up to the fact that Alviarin orchestrated Siuan's demise (even though Egwene clearly noted the BA's hand in facilitating it). As for the latter, well, we don't know... Are you looking for ideas on what might've been the work of DF?

yes on what we can speculate as DF work, without us actually knowing 100% it was DF's. I am just wanting examples of this for some reason

Many. Off the top of my head, we don't know the particulars of how Taim was released, and then there's the issue of Liandrin's thirteen, some of which have been sent on unknown assignments by Moghedien.

Taim was explained on scene, some of the 13 we do not know what they have been about. But I am more interested in the potential plots that have effected the story immediately, like the Rand killed Morgase one effected what happened without it being traced back to them (concretely)

So. Elaine. I must say that Im a newcomer to the WoT series, currently reading ToM, at about 1/3 of it.

at the moment I have developed a really strong dislike for Elaine. A viewing saying her babies will be born healthy as an excuse to putting herself in danger. She doesnt care if when taking ridiculous risk she can endager several people - close friends and subjects included. So selfish. And not to mention that being maimed is still a posibility. it baffles me.

And most recently shes trying to tie the Kin to the crown. Free healing in Andor and Traveling for trade/resources. IIRC, the Kin ranks consists of what? 2 thousand woman? Why not instead propose "Kin embasys" over all the world? She only thinks about personal gain.

Sorry about the rant. My point is: Does it get better? As in becomes a better, selfless person?

actually though their based in Andor, they will likely be routed to Cairhein as well. My understand is that they will just be based in Andor, but still sending women everywhere like they did before.

My question do we have any DF plots that where not explicitely shown to be on screen? The only one I can think of being one is the rumors in Andor about the Dragon killing Morgase (and maybe Elayne)

u forget that Rand and Perrin had other thing to worry about.

ambition is based on making a better future.

Rand dont think he have any future -> hard to be ambitious when u believe u die in few weeks (and even then he tried to leave a Legacy/be remembered)

Perrin was fearing he will turn into a wolf -> hard to plan for the future when u dont know if u still be human tomarrow .

notice how Perrin accept lordhood and refused to give it up or to surrender TR autonamy (his rule) after he reached inner peace.

I understand they have concerns and believe they're fated for bleak futures, but I would say their lack of ambition is a personality trait that's regardless of those factors. They seemed perfectly content where they originally were before they knew anything about the dark path ahead. Compare that to Egwene/Mat/Nyn who sought greater things/adventure/position of power and who would certainly not be happy otherwise.

I think its more of Rand and Perrin being forced out of their home, and finding something terrible (from their viewpoints) about themselves, its like what Lanfear said about having greatness forced upon you, or you choosing it freely
