  1. Dragonmount is pleased to host fantasy author Saladin Ahmed for a week-long author Q&A session! Saladin Ahmed's debut novel, Throne of the Crescent Moon, released in February of this year, is gaining attention in the fantasy genre, particularly because of Mr. Ahmed's unique choice of setting. Last year, Saladin Ahmed was a guest podcaster on Brandon Sanderson's "Writing Excuses," Season 5 Episode 36. He has also been nominated for both the Nebula and Campbell awards.

Saladin Ahmed will visit Dragonmount July 22nd - 28th to answer questions from fans. Everyone is welcome to join in. The discussion will take place on the General Discussion board. I hope you will all come over and take part in this exciting event!

  3. Do you guys check out other ebooks, or just this series? My favorite reader of all time is Frank Muller. He read most of the Dark Tower series, but was unable to complete the series, so another guy picked it up. George Guidall is another great narrator, I felt bad for him with such large shoes to fill. There is a character named Oy, who is described as having a low, gravelly voice. Frank nailed it! George, not so much. He used a high pitch whiny voice, which sucked a lot. ESPECIALLY when we got to the part when the text said "'something Oy said' he said, in his low, gravelly voice." So the guys voice totally contradicted the text. So it would be kinda lame if Perrin spoke all quickly and then the text talked about how slow and deliberate he is.

I loved listening to the Dark Tower series when Frank Muller was the reader. They were fantastic. You're right about how he got each voice just right! I think he has been the best reader I've ever heard--and I've listened to many audio books.

As for Wot, I also couldn't stand how Kate Reading read Tam as "Tom." I think it's due to the fact that Lan is pronounced "Lon." I think some even pronounce Lanfear as "Lonfear." Also, the voice she used for Min in Towers of Midnight was just awful. And I like Kate Reading; she did a fantastic job reading Jim Butcher's Codex Alera series. It was just this past book that Min sounded off.

  4. This might seem a bit off topic, but I thought it was one of the funniest things I've read in a Brandon Sanderson book. In the latest Alcatraz novel there's a Asmodean reference. Alcatraz, the hero, is thinking of the bad things his mother has done so far:

"I hadn't forgotten how she'd give Himalaya up to be execute, nor how she'd sold me--her own son--to Blackburn, the one-eyed Dark Oculator. Or how she killed Asmodean. (Okay, she didn't really do that last one, but I wouldn't put it past her.)"

When I first read it I laughed SO hard. Brandon is so clever.

  5. I think that makes a lot of sense.  I'm not one of the people who hate Perrin or Perrin's storyline, but I can see why others wouldn't be too fond of reading his parts based on what you said.  It's hard to get emotionally attatched to any of the characters in Perrin's camp.  We have known and loved most of Mat's company since the first few books while (most) everone in Perrin's camp was introduced much, much later.

I can't say who I love the most out of the main three Ta'veren.  When I'm reading Rand, Rand is my favorite.  When I'm reading Perrin, Perrin is my favorite.  It's hard to not love Mat the most all the time, but I really appreaciate the characteristics (and the flaws)of Rand and Perrin as well.
