The Tolkien estate would disagree with your take on Peter Jackson doing a better job. They hated what he did, thus their refusal to let ROP use anything from the movies. As Elder has been pointed out to include the Green Man, untainted Saidin, etc would've been confusing. Look at how bad they did with setting up the Horn and why it mattered. When the horn was blown it was sort of confusing as to why this thing was important. I thought they did a good job with Shadar Logoth and The Ways.

8 episodes, so a lot had to be trimmed, that's not to say they didn't waste a lot of the time that they did have but things like the green man, 2 forsaken (who didn't do much of anything), Camelyn, white bridge etc had to get trimmed.

There are only few souls that get spun out and will perform heroic deeds or are linked LLT/Ishy are connected Brigette/ Giadal, heroes of the horn. Though they can lead ordinary lives. Brigette mentions once being a farmer's wife and it being the most boring thing ever. I'm guessing you can get spun out multiple times a cycle. Since a cycle might be a 1000 years, there is a good chance you might get spun out again and again. Hero of the Horn doesn't always mean you will be a great person. Hawkwing mentions fighting LTT numerous times. They are just usually destined for big things. RJ said the forsaken are different each time, since it would be against free will if you always were forced to team evil. But the ordinary person can get spun out over and over and maybe do something big but chances are just lead regular lives.

By then Skynet will have taken over.

A #SaveWoT Campaign is underway (90k as of 01/06/25)

Crowdfund it, I mean Star Citizen has raised over $800 million, sure 14 years later it's still not done. But if fans tossed in a few million maybe, -
I see the tone as being really dark, just look at season 3 the wedding massacre, how Morgase took the throne. People being burnt at the stake, watching a grey man get made, ummm what happened to Samm. Or first season Perin killing his wife, Mats dad a drunken womanizer, or what the tinkers were going to be. It's not all bad but to me they clearly took it to a darker place.

I think a little evidence about Rafe saying this might be needed.

They won't get enough sadly, it would take a couple of million or so to get them to change their minds. 180,000 people saying save this show is small when the first two seasons alone cost around $256 million. Not to mention the studio head that signed WOT was ousted and the new studio head has been talking about streamlining. With Rafe saying he would need at least 6 seasons to really tell the story and having ROP for three more years I think really sealed WOT's fate. They wouldn't want to pay for both WOT and ROP for three more seasons. -
GOT clearly had a huge influence, hence the darker tone of the series, In season 1 BS said he had to talk them out of making the Tinkers darker, he had to explain to them that was the exact opposite of what RJ had the Tinkers being. I think there are many who think to make a series they need to follow the GOT model just like so many games tried to be World of Warcraft.

It was so those who hadn't read the books would think maybe it could be Nyn or Egwene. They were hoping to keep some suspense
-
I still find it amusing people dislike the dragon could be a woman thing so much, it was only tossed in to try and build suspense for the people who had never read the books.

I wouldn't put too much faith in Sony at the moment; they have been causing disaster after disaster lately.

This is probably small potatoes to Sony right now after their "if a country doesn't have PSN they can't play Sony's game" fiasco. Sony is also facing backlash for promoting an all AI generated game, it was poor quality, but this seems to be becoming a more common thing with Sony. Pushing lower quality cheaper made AI stuff over the more expensive titles. Going for short term profit over quality. You can expect this to start happening with movies and Streaming series. Will they ever be 100% all AI? We can at least expect them to go more and more to AI in order to cut costs. -

It just costs so much money now for streaming services to make a series. WOT $250 million for rights, + $256 or so million for the first two seasons + season 3 cost. Now put on what it has cost them for ROP + Reacher + Fallout. We have no idea what Sony was asking for to continue WOT. So streaming services depend on new subscriptions to help recover the money. Look at the buzz Stranger Things. Squid Game, or Fallout had after their first seasons. WOT simply never came close. Viewing numbers might have been good but were people subscribing to Prime just to see WOT? -

Here would be the issue. If another service did pick it up do you start over with new writers etc? Do you just pick up where it left off with the same people or have new people keep it going? Amazon hasn't said anything so could they be testing the waters to see fan reaction before making an offer to Sony? -
Blooper reels are fun, but I never really like when it's people just intentionally messing around, to me that's not a blooper.

Has Amazon officially announced anything yet? I'm sure its cancelled but seems odd Amazon has been silent about it. -
Wheel of Time Season 3 - Full Season Discussion
Sabio replied to SinisterDeath's topic in Wheel of Time TV Show
Honestly for me HBO seems to do the best for putting out quality. Prime is frustrating for promoting their shows, seems like just one or two get advertised. WOT I rarely saw get pushed. Reacher and ROP seem to be the only two. -
There is blame enough for the show not getting renewed, too few episodes a season, poor time management in the episodes, COVID, some bad additions, poor attention to quality like messing up Mats dagger in season 1 and season 2, an actor quitting, poor CGI etc fans too unaccepting of changes, I don't put all the blame all on Rafe, the writers or too hardcore fans. ROP will always have an advantage in that Amazon is pretty limited what they are allowed to use, so they have to make a lot of it up. There is less fan backlash about staying true.

I wonder if we will ever know now.

I will say the show did an amazing job at casting. Season 3 was the best but according to the article "Season 3 ranks 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, up from 86% for Season 2 and 81% for Season 1. "3 was the best but a 97% and season 1 an 81%? The horror of what they did to Mats dagger making it Lightsaber dagger alone should've dropped season 2 way below 86%,

I think a lot comes down to simple money, $250 million for the rights, something like $256 million for the first two seasons. What people forget is for a streaming service viewership might be good but what they need is new subscribers. Not sure Prime has released any of those numbers. If subscribers weren't coming, then Prime would be wanting to pay less for new seasons.

Certain events will happen while what happens between will vary some, since the big push is free will there is going to be some differences. Things such as the amount of years between ages will vary. Certain events will always happen, the DO gets sealed and enough time must pass so the world forgets the DO exists. That will lead to the DO prison will be bored into. A temp patch happens then the final battle. Most of the heroes and forsaken will be different etc. Only a few souls like LTT and Ishy are destined to play a part each time.
-
As good as the WOT is I do think the biggest issue is not everything lends itself well to being a movie/series. In the book there is a lot you can describe how the power works, inner dialogue, AOL, backstories, heroes of the horn, etc. So much the show simply didn't have time to cover or explain. It could be as good as WOT is that it just was never going to make a good series for TV. My wife never read the series and was totally confused at the end of season 2 why these ghosts were important. Unlike GOT, RJ never made WOT thinking it will be on TV someday.
-
This isn't about if Rafe and the writers loved WOT or not. What the show suffered from wasn't Rafe not liking it. The CGI was bad, the pacing was poor, too many poor episodes, and too many changes were made that weren't needed. I understand changes were needed to speed things along and give some backstories to people. Season 1 you spend an episode on a warder just to kill him at the end, wasted time. WOT will go down for me as a good, not great series where there isn't a strong desire to watch it again. I just don't think the series could recover from the first two so so seasons. I think episode 8 of season 3 summed things up for me. You had some great moments and seeing the start of Rands madness then gives us Lanfear vs Moiraine dud of a fight where Lanfear flees after having her throat cut. I wonder if Rafe will ever say who the final forsaken was suppose to be.
