I wonder if we will ever know now.

I will say the show did an amazing job at casting. Season 3 was the best but according to the article "Season 3 ranks 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, up from 86% for Season 2 and 81% for Season 1. "3 was the best but a 97% and season 1 an 81%? The horror of what they did to Mats dagger making it Lightsaber dagger alone should've dropped season 2 way below 86%,

I think a lot comes down to simple money, $250 million for the rights, something like $256 million for the first two seasons. What people forget is for a streaming service viewership might be good but what they need is new subscribers. Not sure Prime has released any of those numbers. If subscribers weren't coming, then Prime would be wanting to pay less for new seasons.

Certain events will happen while what happens between will vary some, since the big push is free will there is going to be some differences. Things such as the amount of years between ages will vary. Certain events will always happen, the DO gets sealed and enough time must pass so the world forgets the DO exists. That will lead to the DO prison will be bored into. A temp patch happens then the final battle. Most of the heroes and forsaken will be different etc. Only a few souls like LTT and Ishy are destined to play a part each time.

As good as the WOT is I do think the biggest issue is not everything lends itself well to being a movie/series. In the book there is a lot you can describe how the power works, inner dialogue, AOL, backstories, heroes of the horn, etc. So much the show simply didn't have time to cover or explain. It could be as good as WOT is that it just was never going to make a good series for TV. My wife never read the series and was totally confused at the end of season 2 why these ghosts were important. Unlike GOT, RJ never made WOT thinking it will be on TV someday.

This isn't about if Rafe and the writers loved WOT or not. What the show suffered from wasn't Rafe not liking it. The CGI was bad, the pacing was poor, too many poor episodes, and too many changes were made that weren't needed. I understand changes were needed to speed things along and give some backstories to people. Season 1 you spend an episode on a warder just to kill him at the end, wasted time. WOT will go down for me as a good, not great series where there isn't a strong desire to watch it again. I just don't think the series could recover from the first two so so seasons. I think episode 8 of season 3 summed things up for me. You had some great moments and seeing the start of Rands madness then gives us Lanfear vs Moiraine dud of a fight where Lanfear flees after having her throat cut. I wonder if Rafe will ever say who the final forsaken was suppose to be.

In the shows defense, COVID killed Tarwin's gap. Rafe even said COVID restrictions made the original idea impossible.
-
Well guess there is no longer a need to worry.
-
I cut them some slack for season 1 with COVID. Question is when should we start to worry? The producers have made a lot of mistakes with this series but I also wonder if WOT just doesn't make a good movie/TV show. There is just so much in it that it's hard to explain to an audience. So much back story, inner monologue, side stories etc. RJ never made WOT with it being a TV series in mind.

I wonder if Fallout being renewed for season 3 is a good or bad omen for the WOT. I do worry Amazon might think they can't support WOT, Fallout, and ROP and maybe one needs to go. Fallout is the second most-streamed show on Prime.

Wheel of Time Season 3 - Full Season Discussion

Myth Busters did a show on that. They recreated the Obi vs Anakin fight where Obi said he had the high ground. Their tests showed the high ground didn't make a difference, -
Exactly, it just seems impossible to enforce. For instance, how would you tariff a movie such as the latest Mission Impossible which is shot in numerous countries including the US?
-
For Amazon I'm sure cost matters , when you figure what they have spent just for ROP and WOT. They are already into WOT for over $600 million.
-
From what I have read "It’s not at all clear how such a tariff would be imposed. Films are intellectual property, not goods, so they represent a kind of service that is not currently subject to tariffs. However, the USTR notes that some services can be subject to certain non-tariff trade barriers, such as regulations and tax incentives. Those could disadvantage American filmmaking." I honestly can't see this going very far since the countries could do the same to movies made in the US since many US states such as Georgia offer tax incentives. The movie industry now depends on the foreign market sales.
-
Seems rather dumb to pay $250 million for something you don't own. I can see why Amazon wouldn't want to pay another $250 million for another 3 seasons then another $250 million in costs to make the show.
-
I'm curious when viewers should worry. It takes about 1 1/2 years for a season to come out. So even a 6-month delay in getting an agreement means a 2 year wait. How long until some of the actors start looking for new gigs?
-
Ok, I'm confused. Amazon spent $250 million for the rights to Wheel of Time. Doesn't that mean they can make as many seasons as they want?

Wheel of Time Season 3 - Full Season Discussion
Sabio replied to SinisterDeath's topic in Wheel of Time TV Show
For me E5 and E7 were pretty bad, even the last episode had good moments but issues such as the Moiraine and Lanfear fight really hurt the episode. It was a very uneven season IMo where you would have good episodes like 4 and 6 then follow each up with probably the worst ones of the season. -
There is an article with a Q&A with the developers The Wheel of Time 'AAA Open-World RPG' Is Legit, Its Developers Insist, but Don't Hold Your Breath for a Release Date — It Could Be a PS6 and Next Xbox Game When asked about the 3 year plan they said that they had no idea where the 3 year thing came from. But they haven't even hired a staff yet.

Wheel of Time Season 3 - Full Season Discussion
Sabio replied to SinisterDeath's topic in Wheel of Time TV Show
Season 3 was the best season so far, but the quality to me was all over the place, they would make a good episode then follow it up with a dud seemingly repeating many of their past mistakes. -
Pretty much the mid characters like Siuan, Valda, and Loial are being killed off becuase they might have done some stuff later, but with such limited time there just isn't the time to spend on them. Nothing they do is critical to the story, so they are being cut. Rafe felt it was important to give Siuan a strong moment.

How do channelers discover they are bad at healing?
Sabio replied to king of nowhere's topic in Wheel of Time Books
The big white book has a section about this, it pretty much comes down to two things. 1. The yellows believe there really isn't a better way to do things, How they do it now is the best there is. 2. Even if it might not be the best way few channelers are willing to risk burning themselves out experimenting with new weaves. There isn't a lot of desire before Nynaeve came around to find a better way. -
Yeah not sure how this could be done in just 3 years. Heck Star Citizen is on year 13 of development 😃 But what I would like to see would depend on what they have in mind. Will you be limited to what you can start as? Aes Sedai, Asha'man, aiel, white cloak etc

How do channelers discover they are bad at healing?
Sabio replied to king of nowhere's topic in Wheel of Time Books
One also has to remember it also depends on the weave. Since things are broken down into the five power Spirit, air, water, fire and earth. Healing is described as mostly spirit with some air and water. Every channeler has strengths and weakness with the five powers. Chances are if you're weak with spirit you will be a weak healer. -
God if he had to finish everything in 1 season it will be a huge disaster. The show already has a problem with pacing as it is, imagine if they had to go from Rand taking control of the Aiel to the Last Battle in one season. Rafe had originally said his guess was needing 6 seasons to finish it properly.
