So you don't have high hopes for the season finale then?

    Not particularly.

But I think if done well I’ll be back for season 2. Which I think has the potential to be much better since the dumb “who’s the dragon” mystery is behind us. Let’s get busy fulfilling some prophecy!
Also a little surprised we didn’t see another interaction with Ishy in this episode.

  2. Rather liked this episode. It’s obvious to me the SFX budget for a TV show just isn’t adequate to pull off some

of the really cool stuff from the books like The Ways. A feature film

budget is needed. It looks cheesy but I liked how they portrayed Machin Shin with it playing on their fears. Love triangle was unnecessary and dumb. And the guy playing Perrin is terrible. Granted he hasn’t been given shit to work with. This episode was faithful enough to the spirit of the books to keep me for one more episode. So far that’s been the show’s MO. A good episode or 2 followed by a stinker. Just very uneven to this point.

  3.

I would love to see Mat eating tray after tray of food in recovering from the dagger separation. A true highlight from the books.

I think they will include this, but probably in the first episode or 2 of season 2. The quarter staff fight between Gawyn and Galad post healing is how they will be introduced to the TV audience.

No idea how Mat gets reacquainted with Rand, et all or when and where he blows the horn. That’s got to be in there right? Although it hasn’t been mentioned at all up to this point so it’s appearance at the Eye isn’t going to have much significance to the TV audience unless it gets some airtime In episode 7.

  4. The 2 actresses cast as unannounced characters have got to be Elaida and Verin right?

Also strange that no Faile casting has been announced since a mashup of book 2 and 3 is expected for season 2. What about Aviendha and Gaul? They are introduced in book 3. Will Juilan Sander get cut from the adaptation?

Prediction: cold open is the blood snow.

I would expect this in episode 8 seeing as how it ties in with Rand and the reveal he is the Dragon. But I could also see them doing the prologue since they have mentioned Ishamael a couple times already. And I think they need to play him up some more for my prediction on another thread to make sense. Ishy goes by Moridin from the start. Only faces Rand in the sky above Falme and is never killed and reborn. Reveled later to be Ishamael for dramatic effect.

  6.

    Hot take: The name Ba’Alzamon

doesn't even make it into the show. Ishy calls

himself Moridin from the start when he finally starts having dream conversations with Rand instead of just horror sequences,

which won’t happen until Rand is revealed as the Dragon at the Eye. I think their only face to face confrontation before the end will be in the sky above Falme.  Rand fails to kill him and therefore he is never reincarnated. Since the show has already mentioned Ishamael as an influential dark friend/forsaken, the big reveal for non book readers later on is that this guy Moridin is actually Ishy. It’s when he is named Nae’blis and starts lording over the other forsaken. They recognize him and it’s revealed for the TV audience. To make this impactful, more of Ishy’s backstory from the age of legends will be explored.

To this end, there will be no forsaken at the Eye and the quest there will be more tied

into saving the forces at Tarwin’s Gap. And yes, the confrontation in Tear will be Sammael. Because let’s be honest, the book fight with Sammael in Shadar Logoth kinda sucked.

  7. Galina gets cut if the Shaido don’t make it past Dumei’s Wells( which they shouldn’t). Someone else will

head the embassy from the White Tower. Same goes for Merana from the  Salidar delegation to Camelyn. Each  gets replaced by a more prominent, already established character.

The Kin aren’t Aes Sedai but they are channelers. I think they get cut since the whole agelessness look of the Aes Sedai didn’t make it on the show.

E4: how did they know they could gentle Logain without 13 Aes Sedai there?  Totally OK with them abandoning that dumb rule altogether, but at this point in the books, didn't they still think 13 was necessary?

Seems this could be an issue come LoC. It’s why Rand flees from Camelyn and right into the arms of the tower Aes Sedai in Cairhein. And a paranoid plot point for Rand during the first several books. But otherwise yeah I’m good with them getting rid of the circle of 13 rule.

  9. I really enjoyed this episode. Strongest so far. Would have liked it have seen the boys have at least one run in with a more sinister/ mysterious dark friend before meeting Dana just to set up the contrast. I didn’t like her knowing all the EF5 names. Ishy wasn’t that free with information. But I did like her explaining Ishy’s philosophy on joining the dark. Helps to show bad guys aren’t just one dimensional. I also like the horror aspect of the dreams. Works much better on screen than the boys having a convo with a red eyed dude in front of a fireplace.

I find this interesting. It seems to be far more common for book fans to have issues with the pacing than non-book fans. Especially in episode 1. At least in the reviews I've seen anyway. Also my wife who has read some of the books, but isn't a big fan didn't think there was anything off with the pacing in episode 1. I certainly found it rushed on first watch, less so on a second.

My theory about what is happening here is that those of us that know the story so well are noticing everything that's missing. So it feels like they are jumping from one thing to another, because we know the bits that go in-between. Thus it feels rushed. But for someone who doesn't know the story, they can just accept it as it's presented and it feels pretty natural.

I’d say this is a fair assessment. I also agree with the guy a few posts up who said that a more faithful book adaptation could be done within the same number of episodes/ time length.

  11. Not a big fan so far. Watched the first 2 episodes. Pacing issues and wooden acting. I’ve heard people say that they are trying to cram a lot into a few short episodes but it doesn’t feel crammed to me. It seems we are missing a lot of the story! They would have time for more of what happens in the book if they actors spent less time staring at the pretty landscapes and doing things that, you know, are not in the books.

As Rand is riding away after lighting his Pipe, a Sho-Wing lands and some people get out and announce that they are from the Continent known as the Land of the Mad Men and announce they had cured the madness shortly after the breaking and the whole Mad Men thing was a hoax to keep people away and they had been living a 2nd Age lifestyle the entire time.

This is such a Planet of the Apes ending. I love it.

  13. Ok here is a kind of serious one that would be bad ass. Moiraine is actually Lanfear and has been from the start. It’s all been her ploy to guide and manipulate Rand so they can rule together. It is finally foiled by her falling into the doorframe ter’angreal in a battle with Aviendha. Her reappearance at the Tower of Ghenji at the end of the series is like a redemption arc. She drilled into the bore and released the Dark One in the AOL. Fitting she plays a part in his demise.
