What do you base this claim on? Do you have evidence to back this up beyond not liking the choices he’s made?

He's never said that in such explicit terms, obviously. However, we know the following about Rafe:

-he has said that he is writing the show the way he thinks the books would have been written by RJ today

-he knows Brandon disagrees with him on many issues, yet maintains his position

-for each change, he'll often say something to the effect of "this works better," "this is actually more true to the books," "we HAD to do it this way because this is much more impactful and better set-up," "you need X or Y for a good narrative," etc etc etc

-excerpt from an interview that WoTSeries did with Rafe: "Tidbit: apparently 70% of readers of all 14 books thought the show was as good or better than the books, he notes this is taken largely from non-online spaces."

I don't know if he thinks he is better than the other two... but, taken as a whole his comments seem to paint a picture of a person who thinks he can go head-to-head with two great fantasy authors, and that when it comes to what works for film at least, he knows better.

This is just kind of the way he talks though. I think it makes him seem more acerbic than he really means to be.

Hard to say. He definitely didn't come across as rude to me, but definitely frustrated and baffled by certain writing choices at times. I think he can still appreciate the show overall while intensely disliking certain key parts of it.

As both a professional author and official Consulting Producer, Brandon has every right to be critical of aspects of the series' writing, but there is a distinct difference between being critical and being negative, and I don't see any negativity in the summaries of his comments that have been posted or alluded to here in this thread.

The ChatGPT summary isn't bad, but the main problem is it is summarizing the comments of three people (Daniel, Matt, and Brandon) all at once in a dispassionate "scholarly" way. Brandon's comments definitely have more bite and bitter humor to them, and you can tell he is clearly disappointed and frustrated with certain decisions. That being said, it's true that he isn't straight up hating on the show, and he praises them in a few areas throughout and at the end.

It’s not that my expectations are low. It’s that I genuinely enjoy the show. I did not enjoy season 1 as much. I really liked season 2.

People are allowed to like different things.

Having lurked on here since the end of Season 1 without once logging in, I've seen A LOT of your posts @Elder_Haman. I felt compelled to finally log in and tell you... from one random internet user to another... in my non-expert internet armchair opinion... you do, in fact, have very low standards. But that's okay. Plenty of people love reality TV, for example. Hell, I enjoy it myself from time to time as well. It's nice to switch off my brain sometimes and be taken along for a wild, if undemanding, ride. I just expected so much more from the Wheel of Time, and try as I might, I just can't get over it. I expect that I'm not alone in that sentiment.

    It was a good discussion.

i think it’s pretty fair to say it’s another turning of the wheel, not what Robert Jordan wrote.

If you accept that then I am sure it’s easier to enjoy the series.

For those that don’t it’s harder not to hate it… especially as it’s Rafes interpretation…. of all the turnings in all of time he had to walk into this turning.?

The thing is... how can it be another turning if the fundamentals of the magic system and worldbuilding rules were changed?

Sarah nakamura literally defended episode 8.

Literally this site is full of people defending literally everything you could point out.

    The writing has been defended.

The lack of development of the men has been defended.

The crappy lighting and outfits have been defended.

The super power ranger nynaeve has been defended.

Even "moiraine has a tell" was defended.

The changes to EF and the EF 5 have been defended.

    The 4th Oath was defended.

The aes sedai bad politics were defended

Even making men incompetent has been defended.

Many of the people on Dragonmount that hated the show are no longer active here.

Since the /r/WoT discussion is riddled with back and forth "no she didn't say that, not exactly!", here's all of her Insta stories presented exactly as they are, and a full transcript.

    Transcript here:

So in December, I thought it'd be a really great time to take a step back from social media, and just focus on my family, relax, unplug. I did - it was wonderful, I turned off all notifications for social media and had only a very select few people who can actually reach me via text.

Uhmm, it was amazing, and I think, just like, the best decision I've ever made in my whole life. But like, *giggles*, I turned on my Instagram notifications last night or the day before, and the stuff that is still coming through from Episode 8 is cracking me up.

Some people are so pressed about Episode 8 that they're coming for my throat - and I find it absolutely hysterical, to be perfectly honest, because it's all men, and I guarantee you that if I were a man they would not be coming at me with that same energy because, guaranteed, they are not going after any of the other people that may have helped to provide support for this show, with that same energy. Guaranteed that it is not happening, so, I'm finding that absolutely hysterical, and uhmm, just the fact that, I'm not bothered - I'm so proud of Episode 8!

The end of the Eye of the World is difficult from a book perspective, and so, how we wrapped everything up while hitting some of the peaks of this scene when it comes to the confrontation at the Eye I felt were right on the money. We also planted a lot of seeds within that whole episode that will bear fruit in the coming seasons, and I felt like it was done deftly and surgically and we just kinda left things to grow, and I am so thrilled with all of that. But man!

Some of you guys really need to take a deep breath, relax, and, think twice about coming after a stranger on the Internet. For those of you asking, I sleep very well at night, and I'm really really proud of the work that I do and the support that I provide. But gonna need for people that are questioning me to looking up the meaning of "consultant" and also the meaning of "advice". I am not a producer - bottom line - I am not a producer, I can't make anyone do anything and I don't let things happen because I'm not a decision-maker. I provide support, I advise, and fight battles that maybe feel like I need to fight? *cuts off*

And just to wrap all of this up, I am all in on the outline and the vision of what is happening for this show - I'm fully sold on all of Season 1 and I am committed to the story that we're telling and how we're telling it, and at the end of the day, super super happy with all of it, and so I support our showrunner with my full heart, and kindly thank you, no, I will not be killing myself, so stop asking

  8. I would love to see some humility, acknowledgement of critcism, and a stated desire to do better on the part of Rafe and Amazon in general. I think it would go a long way with disgruntled fans. Instead, we have gotten the ol' "I am the AR-TEEST," "all problems are Covid," and "this show is the best thing since sliced bread!"

First tweet on her feed is the episode 6 watch thread?

My bad, episode 6 was when she actually went MIA. With Episode 5 she kind of skipped over most of the questions she got (she promised in a tweet to go back and answer them, but she never did). She used to tweet regularly and answer questions, but she hasn't said anything at all since Dec 10th.

Anybody know if Sarah Nakamura has done any in-depth interviews since Season 1 finished airing? Granted, I'm not sure how much stock we can put in any public comments; she has devoted the past couple of decades to positioning herself to being involved in this production, and she won't do anything to jeopardize that. But boy would I would be fascinated to buy her a few drinks and really get her unvarnished opinion of this "adaptation."

She is MIA since episode 5.
