AMOL Prologue Available for Pre-order

Jason Denzel

Tor Books announced today that "By Grace and Banners Fallen", the prologue to A Memory of Light, will be available as an eBook for purchase and download on October 2nd.

“By Grace and Banners Fallen” is available as a pre-order $2.99 as either an ebook or audio download. The DRM-free eBook version is directly available on our website for purchase now. After pre-ordering, your eBook will become available for download on October 2nd.

A man who loves the hunt begins a new pursuit, red veils appear, and one of the Forsaken stands newly revealed. The forces of the Shadow swell in triumph as the world unravels. By grace and banners fallen, the Last Battle has come.

The full prologue is a lengthy, action-packed chapter that has intense scenes and some great surprises. "By Grace and Banners Fallen" is the final Wheel of Time prologue. There's no doubt that Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson left some great surprises for us.

If you intend to buy the eBook prologue, please consider doing so from our website. You'll get DRM-Free versions for both the Kindle and ePub. You'll also be helping to support this website.

It has been a tradition of the series since Winter's Heart (released in 2000) where the prologue was released as an eBook several months in advance of the actual novel. The prologues tend to be about 40,000 words; or the length of a short novel. For many fans, paying $2.99 is worth getting that much content, especially when it is released 3 months before the full book. We certainly think so, especially when "...one of the Forsaken stands newly revealed!"

isn't it a month early?????? TOR is going to make the wait for the full book more difficult.

I think it sucks that TOR are trying to squeeze every dollar that they can by doing this. But I'm so hooked on the WoT, that I will probably buy it anyway. Damn them, exploiting my love for RJ's storytelling.

What a shock, only the US and Canada. Do Tor really think there are no other countries?

    This is eBook...regions don't matter.

Hi folks. I updated the article above to mention why they are releasing this as an eBook. Also, let me clear something up before judgements are made. Trust me: Tor would LOVE to accept your international money for the eBook. But due to the way these legal contracts are sold, Tor does not have the right to sell AMOL to anybody outside the US and Canada. If you live outside Tor's region, and would like to see the prologue, then please ask Robert Jordan's other publisher in your area (Orbit, if you live in the UK or Australia). You can also ask a friend who lives in the United States to purchase you a gift, right?

Am I correct in assuming the prologue will be included in the hard copy of the book? I really want to read it, but I may just wait until the book comes out.

Out of interest, what's stopping me, as a resident of the UK, from actually buying this?

Orbit does not release the prologue early and they are the UK's publisher for WOT

This is an eBook, that's why regions matter. Importing physical books is a lot easier than eBooks. It's mentioned in the faq on eBooks here and if you try to purchase eBooks without using an American billing adress you're unable to check out.

Nothing happens. You'll get to a screen where they thank you for your interest, but apologize about not being able to provide the book to you.

    Thanks for the reply.

Ah well, how disappointing. Crapped on for not being American/Canadian.

Wait you can't buy it if you're not US/Canada?

Alright. Well, there are other ways.

The sad thing about this, is Orbit never releasing the prologues in the UK plays into the hands of Captain Jack Sparrow. I like many thousands of others who are not American or Canadian but want to be able to pay legally for it. Because we care about the books and the authors and the beautiful legacy he has given us. In the end both lose out. The publishers lose money and the customer loses faith with the publisher.

Ok so conflicting info for Canadians:

We should be able to buy it because:

    a) Tor has the market rights for Canada

    b) I've had no problems in the past

    c) They listed the compatibility with a Canadian eReader (Kobo)

    d) It says US/Canada here:

    http://www.dragonmou...emory_of_Light/

...but we might not because it says US billing address ONLY here:

    http://www.dragonmou...s.php#countries

"At this time, Dragonmount is only able to sell eBooks to visitors who have a billing address in the United States."

...yet on that same page it is listed as compatible with a Kobo (the Canadian eReader).

    Clarification please.

    Second question:

This eBook will be available for download on October 2, 2012.

    ...means what time EXACTLY?

Is it 12:01am Eastern Standard Time?

I vote personally for Atlantic Standard Time (Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, atlantic provinces of Canada) or even better Newfoundland time which is an hour and a half before EST. Can somebody tell us which one it will be?

    Hey Guys,

Regrets to those of you outside canada and the US for missing this. But are we really quibbling over a $2.99 ebook? You call this exploitation? This is chump change. If you are not willing to pay 3 bucks to get this early you may not be a real fan. And I think we are skipping the biggest issue here "...one of the Forsaken stands newly revealed" ! HELLO?

Could this be the Deamndred reveal we have waited 13 books for.

That my friends, is the real issue here.

Totally untrue. Now, I do plan on buying this, but I can completely see the point of those that choose not to. Some simply don't want to read part of the book without access to the rest, and some refuse to pay twice for the same material. That is their choice, and in no way diminishes their status as fans. I appreciate and share your enthusiasm, but don't demean those that make the choice not to buy this.

I respect your comment as well as their right not to buy it. I will add however, that it is not a new convention (releasing the prologue for sale).

Now to be a total hypocrite... I am not reading the chapter 11 selection, as I felt that reading the seven striped lass last book, kinda spoiled my reading of the book when the full release came out. But I will get the prologue, as I have every one dating back to Time to be Gone.

    :)

So ridiculous people are complaining about the cost here, this has become such a pet peeve of mine over the years. Tor releases a fair amount of new material for free and you are paying in order be able to read the prologue before the book is actually released. In essence you are paying to not have to wait!

I would like to know what time exactly this will be available to download :) omg so excited.

Also, I can't believe people care that it costs 3 dollars! it's 3 dollars! Just skip an order of french fries at mcdonalds! We're getting the AMOL prologue months before the release and it only costs 3 dollars! suck it up
