Darthe - What did you see about Seph that you liked about him so far?  I'm looking through his ISO again and am having a hard time seeing why anyone would take an issue with the vote.  I could see people maybe not agreeing with it, but all I'm seeing from him is a few posts of things that read more like meaningless dirt kicking than genuine attempts to resolve people.  I'm not going to dig up the same one's to Alanna I already highlighted.

I've played a few games of mafia, and I'm pretty sure there's no argument to be made for punctuation as a scumtell or anything else.  If his issue with Calder's vote had actually been the vote/post, itself, I might actually buy that - I could definitely see how people that haven't played with him before could read his playstyle as scummy as a whole.  But the fact it was choppy and had exclamation points?  

 

The intro post from Laine he's referring to was "weee, game on."  Sure, tone reading isn't an exact science, but c'mon.

 

As ridiculous as this is people used to try and use this to read me.

I'm not mad about this one, but out of curiousity: what do you think of Calder?

 

 

I honestly have no idea.  I can only assume who those rumors (note the spelling) of him being a strong player came from, and I stand by that assessment.  The problem I have with him is he's a very counter-intuitive player by design.  I've seen him essentially lolcat for being outed scum when town.  I've seen him claim mafia as town multiple times.  The problem is he does these things as mafia, too, and it makes it damn near impossible to have any sort of meta for him, beyond "Don't trust him."

 

His content...not great, not bad.  I have no problem with him essentially shrugging off your vote to begin with, and his point about his meta is pretty valid to me.  You had just said you knew he was a strong player, so I can't fault him for assuming you knew more about him.

Is this a serious vote?  I don't remember who you were on before, if anyone - IR, maybe? - but if this is a legitimate "I think she's mafia" I think you're reaching a bit hard.  Like you said, she hasn't really said much of anything.  I'm not even sure she has five posts at this point.

 

If this is just pressure, then I really don't have any issue with it.  Until I see some comment, I can't really give an assessment of her.  Hallia is never a particularly loud player.  She has spurts of activity in between (sometimes long) periods of inactivity as either alignment.

I already pointed out some things that stood out to me about Seph early on.  I don't even know if they seem scummy to me as much as unnatural.  It was 80 posts into the game when he made that post I quoted.  Did he really need to point out that Alanna had flip flopped?  If she had, does that mean anything for her alignment?

If him pointing that out is the reason Darthe is so set on him, then it really doesn't make him look town to me.

 

 

I'm not saying that's why Darthe is set on him being town.  I'm saying that's what stood out to me as potentially wrong.

I'm withholding rereading and comments on the Liz/Celeste situation until I have a little bit more time. From what I can tell Celeste is offended because she thinks Liz is jumping on her too early in the game? That's pretty much as far as I am with that conflict.

 

@Alanna I really want to hear from you about the players. Also can you use quotes instead of post numbers because it's quicker on mobile.

I've posted thoughts on a few players. I'm leaning more town on Seph for his quick start to the game. Darthe is leaning town, so is Sili for reasons. Zander is still null to me, but I could assign him town if I need to. Celeste/Liz are up in the air for me at the moment. I think that's pretty much all that's posted at this point, besides Clov but I hesitate to give a read so quickly when most of what he's talked about is the Liz/Celeste scenario.

As for quoting instead of post numbers, probably not. It's a lot cleaner and less work to do post numbers but I CAN link more, if not all of them when referencing back to a post to make it easier for mobile users.

She was stating something negative directed at just me when multiple people itt had done the exact same thing. I don't understand why this is a question since I answered it in the red bold. There were multiple people trying to get the game started early on, and I was curious why she picked me and chose to view it negatively.

as for the flip flopping, I don't view my question as bad and I find it hurtful you think so :( all my questions are legit clov! I simply wanted to see how alanna reacted to it. It was around page 5, any read there is most likely going to be on something flimsy. She reacted how I wanted her to, if she would have tried to explain herself it would be a entirely different situation.

 

 

There were multiple people who tried to get things going early, but I'd argue you were the first, and you had by the far the weakest reasoning for doing so.  Those two go kinda hand-in-hand, I'll admit, but your point to Calder to was awful - I have literally no issue with Alanna calling you out for that.  And since a decent amount (not all) of the "serious" play after that to the point where she made her post stemmed from your prod, I can't really fault her for not calling attention to them...they kind of got dragged into it.

If by contradiction, you mean the "unless you're mafia" caveat....it really doesn't make sense to me from any POV.  If I'm town, I don't think I would ever tell somebody to stop tunneling me unless they were mafia.  If I'm mafia, I already would know they're not and can accept their "tunnel" (or lack thereof, in this case) actually HAS merit so it wouldn't be a natural response for me at all. I guess if someone knew the other person wasn't going to stop and wanted a reason to OMGUS...?

What celeste said was "unless you think it's actually scum me." Which I take to mean, do not tunnel me unless you have a reason to.

 Yeah, but I still have trouble fitting that with either mindset.  If she's going to be that pissed about Liz tunneling her, does it really matter whether Liz believes Celeste is mafia?  And why would Celeste ever believe that Liz is going to deliberately tunnel her if she DIDN'T think she was mafia?

Actually, having read through this conversation, I think I know what she's getting at. In which case, lecture mode is coming on... Once upon a time there was a game called True Love II on PerC. After determining that Lassie (aka penny aka celeste aka alette) was town, I decided to use her as bait for scum. However, that backfired because she became extremely paranoid and wouldn't take my hints (or what eventually had to turn into blatant reassurances) that I was not actually trying to get her lynched and she took the first chance she got to get me mislynched during that game. There's other  history too, but we don't have to get into all of that... The point is, that I can see where her statement about me "actually tunnelling her" only if I think she's scum could be her being sensitive and paranoid that I might try to use her that way again. In which case: Lassie - you're going to have to get over it. That's all I'm going to say on that. When you're playing mafia, stuff happens. You are going to get suspected for stuff and get called scum. My job is to try to figure out your alignment. Your job is to figure out mine. So you feeling hurt because I suspect you right out of the gates is not helpful if you're town. If you want to know what I really thought when I made that statement: you pinged me wrong. Your catchup comments rang false to me, which is why I called you out. Was it enough for me to switch my vote for you? No. It was enough for me to want to see how you'd respond. I will admit that this lecture is partially unfair because you didn't stay stuck on the issue, it was other people (like Zander...gonna get to that after I catch up some more) who were pushing you to fight me on it, so that's progress from the last time. But it annoys me, to be honest, that you're making this an issue at all. If you expect me to treat you with kid's gloves this game because of your reactions in the past, then no. That's not me doing my job. If you're scum, then you should know that this type of emotional manipulation doesn't work on me. Either way I'm not going to stop poking if I feel something needs to be poked. So you're going to have to figure out how to deal with that. (And I do love you which you know, so consider this to be a tough love lecture that hopefully can end right here :hug:)

I'm not expecting you to treat me with kid gloves, what I did expect was if I pinged to you that you would say it's straight up pinging instead of simply saying "scum!lassie :sad:" which is us not understanding each other right away because of phrasing.

If you haven't taken the time to understand my play style and approach by now, then I really don't know what to tell you. 'But you trying to keep yourself from getting too mired in this muck are points in your favour.What do you think of Zander?

It's a learning process Liz one that I won't rush from our talks on mafia. Zander is null, him digging into this is bringing up different scenarios of his alignment. (Basically I see either alignments in different scenarios)

@ sili. my last game here, though it was 6 months ago I had 4 towns right, and the 1 mafia i voted for by page 6 or so based entirely off of tone. So why I still won't base everything entirely on this, I am fine with trusting my gut on tone.

The only person i feel uneasy about in the thread so far is alanna, I usually have trouble reading her until later so we shall see.

I use a lot of !!!!!! and ???? as well, why does that bother you about him?

 

that has become your own playstyle. it's difficult to garner anything from it.

It can be a nervous habit for some, which is why I questioned him about it.

 

 

 

 

 

I've played a few games of mafia, and I'm pretty sure there's no argument to be made for punctuation as a scumtell or anything else.  If his issue with Calder's vote had actually been the vote/post, itself, I might actually buy that - I could definitely see how people that haven't played with him before could read his playstyle as scummy as a whole.  But the fact it was choppy and had exclamation points?  

 

The intro post from Laine he's referring to was "weee, game on."  Sure, tone reading isn't an exact science, but c'mon.

 

As ridiculous as this is people used to try and use this to read me.

The ? had nothing to do with my suspicion. I literally say his words, not his punctuation. I was just asking him a question about the punctuation holy mother of batman.

 

also @ clov. I found the lainey thing. I say that her entrance wasn't normal, which it wasn't I said nothing about tone anywhere in there. so if you are going to critique me, at least stop critiquing the things that are not even there.

Okay, it doesn't look normal.  I don't know to interpret that beyond "it sounds bad" or "it sounds off"...which is a tone thing.  So please, if I'm somehow taking this wrong, enlighten me.

 

 

I'll give you that you did say his words, and not his punctuation, but you are absolutely misrepresenting your question about it.  If you really had just wanted to know his grammatical habits, you could have asked that in a way that didn't suggest an issue with it.  "It sounds like a nervous op" is very much passing a judgment about him from it.

But you didn't have an issue with his vote.  You said so yourself.  You had an issue with him using incomplete sentences and thought he sounded nervous because he put punctuation in a post I have a hard time believing was serious at the time he made it.

 

So yes, I feel your issues with that are awful.
