What I could imagine working is something kind of similar to what Sili is describing, I think.  I'm not 100% sure because, kind of ironically, I've skimmed most of this thread.  Though don't worry, guys - that's not because of volume.  It's just general apathy towards the subject!

Think of a reddit-esque "score" system.  There would be no "downvoting" posts, and once you've voted for a post, you cannot unvote.  Unlike a traditional thank system, this would be non-attributable.  As such, you won't see that Cory liked my post calling AJ scum....resulting in AJ getting snap lynched after Cory flips cop.  What it DOES do is let's people highlight "important" or "good" posts so skimmers may have something to pay attention to, while those wanting to read everything still can.

The only flaw with such a system, especially on a forum like this, is preventing dead players and spectators from voting.  It would need some sort of control, a la Vendetta Strada's court rooms.

EDIT: Actually, the number of DMers that have played on VS is getting pretty high.  I'm pretty sure the top eleven posts in this thread have, along with several others.

What I see being affected are the posts that people show that they agree with with "+1". If there was a way to show that on the post itself, it might have an impact.

It would cause so many angle-shooting posts about timing and stuff like that

It would be terrible

This is why you'd have to restrict it to living players with no attribution.

This is also why it's impossible to implement.

Unless you meant saying, "Well, X, Y, Z were the only players online during the time it got thanked so it must have been them!" in which case lolthatperson

Popularity contest: even framing it like that, it might happen like that. And then you have to start restricting what people "rep" or not and that's not what the intention is.

Highlighting: What is my incentive to read the thread if I can just piggyback off everyone else? Call it laziness or whatever, but sometimes I want to take the easy way out and that doesn't make me a valuable town member.

You'd still be a valuable team member. If you only skim, or only read highlights, or any form you want of not reading every single word, then it's your following contribution that matters, not how much 9f the thread you personally read.

As long as you the jist of what's going on, you can still contribute. Sure, you might miss some things, but if they are important enough, they will be discussed.

I was annoyed in the minions game how many times I was asked if I was caught up. I spent a good portion of the game reading isos. Sure I didn't know everything, but I knew enough to keep up with current events.

I STILL haven't read the handful of pages right before I joined. And it doesn't matter. If there was a way for people that are behind to get caught up quicker, it would be awesome.

1. A way of more important posts standing out from the rest (not happeneing)

2. People responding to requests about what happened when they check in. (Possible, but unlikely)

3. Regular recaps from players as a general thing to show how they are proceeding/what caught their attention. Helpful all around at both reading the poster and for those that are behind. (Possible, up to community if it will actually happen)

.....is not coming to this site.  I'm glad we're talking about options and compromises and all that stuff, but we should probably move on from that aspect of the discussion.  :-)

As a mod, I would not want to keep track of number of posts and see when people reached their limit. How about if we just have "High volume" games and "Low Volume" games and trust people to police themselves? Although, I'll be honest, I'm not sure we have enough high volume posters to fill a roster. So maybe this won't work either.

Sili your idea doesn't work because all it would do is making the thread more confusing.

A lot of players need narrative context to get reads. A lot of players inherently distrust "popular trains of thoughts" and would do nothing but complain about it. Your idea only works in a 100% homogeneous Mafia culture where everyone plays the same exact way.

It was a cute idea but serves no practice in reality.

No. I don't think you're listening. You're hearing yourself.

If you're saying "have some kind of highlight feature where certain posts are highlighted based on user feedback" it's A) impossible to actually implement and B) IMO basically does nothing to change anything and would probably lead to complaints somehow

I don't see any reason a lower volume player couldn't play a higher volume game if they were fine committing the time.

But I also just woke up.

What about posts per page increases?

I'm hoping that can be fixed.  It used to be an option, but then the site "upgraded" and it is gone.  Some upgrade, eh?

But yes, I'm looking into it.

I shouldn't use the word 'think'. You just plain aren't listening. You stopped at the part where it needs to help everyone.

Nothing prevents this. Absolutely nothing.

They wouldn't have to follow popular trains of thoughts. If they complained there's probably something else wrong.

Some people think similar all the time. That's why you require a certain number of upvotes to 'highlight' it - though not necessarily highlight.

I think it's cute

It clearly cannot be implemented

So there's really no need to continue this discussion

Yeah calling it cute and misrepresenting it is going to annoy me. Best just to continue ignoring me then.

I am very annoyed with people who misrepresent my ideas. Sorry, therefore, continue discussing.

Ignoring the fact that I've already said it won't happen has already succeeded in annoying me.

I get it, but there is no point.  Perhaps take that to PM with Cory if you'd like to hash it out.
