Good evening everybody,

 

My name is Sal.  I have "read" all of the books of The Wheel of Time.  I put the word read in quotation marks because I listened to the audio and have only technically "read" a few of the books, though I have listened to all of the books (unabridged of course).  I love Mike Kramer and Kate Readings' reading of the books and they have set the bar extremely high for me as far as audio books go.

 

Anyway, I have checked out Dragonmount before for news and such, but never posted on the forums until now.  I just thought that I would drop in and say hi.  Unfortunately, I have found it hard to find people to have discussions about the series with, so, hopefully, this will help (when I have time).

 

A little about me... Though my background is in IT, I am currently going to school for History.  I am also interested in writing, gaming and such and while I am still thinking about my main career, I am looking to get into writing novels, games, etc.  I have recently became a father to beautiful girl (hard to believe she is almost 6 months old already.... and getting so big).

 

Anyway, I look forward to talking with you all further about the Wheel of Time and other things...

Thank you all for the warm welcome.  Interestingly, one of the reasons that brought me here was because I am taking philosophy this semester and I am incorporating WOT into my first paper for the class.  The paper is about balance which has been a major personal philosophy of mine.  I believe that is why I have become so enamored with The Wheel of Time, since it is one of the major underlying themes of the series.

 

Chaelca - I am hoping that I can get my daughter interested in WOT.  I couldn't sell my fiancé on any names from the series such as Nynaeve or Egwene.  We ultimately named her Savannah.

 

As far as History, I still have yet to decide what I want to do with the degree once I achieve it.  Teacher is a likely choice, but I am also exploring other options such as at a University or museum or maybe even other avenues such as consulting and writing.  If I have a focus it would likely be ancient Rome (and the surrounding periods and cultures of the time).

Since you've finished the series and seem eager to participate in discussions I'd suggest checking out some of the threads on our Discussion Boards where people can start and/or join in on discussions and theories about the series and characters from it.

 

In addition to the discussion boards you might also enjoy checking out some or many of our many Social Groups which can be a great way for you to meet and get to know some of the people around the site. You may join as many groups as you'd like and each one has their own draw. All of the groups have some great members, many of us are members of multiple groups, and each group has some fun activities to participate in. If any of the groups appeal to you then feel free to apply to join them. If you have any questions about The Band of the Red Hand, home of music, travel, drinks & food, I should be able to answer them (I'm the Band's Exececutive Officer). If you have any questions about The Black Tower, home of Spam and Madness, I should also be able to answer those (I'm Logain, leader of the Light Faction). Other than those two groups I can't really answer many of your questions but if you post here or in their general board I'm sure one of their members will be more than happy to help answer your questions about their group. From my experiance, many of the groups seem to have a little bit of RP mixed in however do not mainly focus on it.

 

If you are looking for some in depth RP we also have the RP-Groups which, though I have little to no knowledge of, is something many find fun to participate in. If you plan on participating I believe they have a main board you can post any questions to if no one here is able answer them.

Ooo, a fellow history fan.  I double majored in History and Philosophy, and it landed me a nice cushy job as a stay-at-home dad.
