If Nolder is town, how do we turn him into a murder target instead of a lynch target?

Question is for everyone.

Thats... an odd question.

I know I didn't stutter, this is text.

I don't think he's going to start town-telling on his own. He's scum in the minds of a lot of people, if he's NOT, the best use for him this game is to absorb a murder.

Yes or no?

I don't think I understand.  But let me just say its kinda irrelevant to me cause I don't think he's Town.  Also odds Mafia NK's him when he's under this much pressure is prolly slim to none imo.  Maybe I'm missing something but this kinda seems pointless to me.  If i'm missing something please enlighten me.

San Antonio? Bandera? Ive been living in Waco for 3 years now!

My #1 WoW bro is from Waco.

I quit WoW right before I started college. Decided it was the best thing to do.

The best way would be like a redirect or something, cause I dont see a world where scum shoots Nolder. A) He is scum, doesnt shoot himself. B) He has been so scummy and is a mislynch they save for a rainy day. I dont see a way to turn him into a viable soak short of forcing the kill to him somehow.

Assuming you mean a scum murder, if I don't trust a strong player I'll sometimes keep it to myself so scum don't get it in their heads that he/she can be mislynched.  But I don't really see this ever applying to Nolder at this point in the game.

But I think I know where you're going with this.

I'm home now and absolutely exhausted after my shower, so I'm gonna crash.

Hopefully work will be light tomorrow so that I can spend more time on the clock reading up the stuff from tonight than actually turning wrenches

I think Snow is still deserving of a second look from those who haven't yet.

I'll give Zander's case on Tab another in depth look tomorrow and review the games he suggested to get a better grasp. I feel pretty good about him being a townie here and I'll concede that he has more familiarity with her than I would. She's been in my "why not" category since the game has kicked off, so I think she's a viable lynch regardless of her low content - but I would feel more comfortable doing my homework beforehand.

The people the mafia choose to murder are often choices they don't make, but ones we make.

If we could get consensus that he needs to be scanned by a seer, that's probably the only way I don't lynch him today, since I now have enough support to make that happen probably.

If he is town, him being scanned town would really be a problem for the mafia. He then absorbs a murder. They don't really have a choice in the matter.

If he's not town, he's caught anyway, and he continues to flounder and give away data.

This plan is bad for town if he's exactly a mafia godfather, except.... him never being murdered would then give THAT away, and basically serve as a Godfather-investigation result. Him being alive late game while scanned innocent means he's godfather 9/10 times. And a Godfather would otherwise survive if they were scanned innocent late game. So, he's not acting like a townie, scan him now. If he comes back innocent he's gotta be murdered. If he's not murdered he's Godfather.

If he's guilty, that means you have a scan result on someone who was not murdered, it makes our seer a seer. Scanning someone who was murdered, like me in the previous game, does jack shit.

That is how you turn Nolder into a must-murder, and vastly improves town's position if he's town, and mildly improves town's position if he's scum.

If he's scum, the best course of action is to lynch him blind. But this is your viable alternative.

I'd lynch him blind if this plan is not acceptable.

It's actually taken me all day to catch up with the whole thread, and I still feel like I have very few notes.

I feel quite good about Pizza, though I don't really have much meta to go on there. I only played with you once in Mafia, but I don't think I can trust that meta as you were trying to disguise yourself (if your usual post style is like this, long and detailed, then it could have been quite the give away). I do feel like you are putting it out there and solving, though.

This post of Lenlo's bothered me a little bit, maybe the way he's interacting with AJ, i.e. "What do you think? I think..." instead of waiting to hear AJ's answer first.

I was teasing about the thinking part, though I'm sure you know that.

You're just coming across more... thoughtful/thorough(?) here than in our last game where I mislynched you D1 :(

Its cool. Im not gonna let a deadline sneak up on me this game, and the only final I have left is in a class I have a 96 in so im not stressed about it at all. Im basically already on break. 1 more year and I will be college grad. To bad I gotta prep to try and get into Grad school :P

So AJ, what do you think of Pizza? He looks good to me. Hes figuring stuff out, trying to piece it together with what small stuff we have. But hes been kinda focused on Nolder through it all, interacting with others with Nold as the topic. Only game I have had with him was the game he was Nomi in, and as scum we offed him pretty quickly so I dont have a baseline for him.

Zander feels a bit more subdued than usual, but I think he did say he's busier now than usual as well.

I do want to see more from Dice that isn't about the rules/forum etiquette, as last time you posted strongly in that way, you turned out to be scum :P

First re: Pizza you say you have no real Meta on him, then you say you dont trust the little that you do have.  As an inexperienced player I find that it a little strange that you are strictly basing this off of putting it out there (which you've SEEN Scum do as well) and just really game solving makes you feel really good about him.....feels like your just going with the general consensus with the a pretty weak only reason imo.

Second re: Lenlo-  That is the reason this post is bothering you....????!!!  Come on now.  Asking someone opinion on someone while giving your own is bothering you?

No I don't get that at all.  Weak reasoning again imo.

Third re: me.  That's it?  Only thing you can come up with?

Fourth re: Dice-  Come on YOURE telling other people you wanna see more from them???  Seems pretty hypocritical there Tab.

This is uncomfortably reminiscent of how you push targets as scum.  But I haven't actually seen you as town for a few months now so I could be forgetting why I always incorrectly clear you in the first place.

But Pizza, but stating the plan/idea, cant scum just let him live if he gets peeked innocent and actually is town? They guarantee a late game mislynch at that point dont they?

That's awesome.

I don't need sychophants as my fellow townies, but when they come up with similar ideas or can at least follow my strange brain, that makes me feel less like a total alien being.

Yeah, if they want to make such a gamble.

The interim is the problem. Then Nolder the scanned innocent has a free hand to attack.

I've seen Nolder be a townie in that game where he was actually behaving like one.

I want that Nolder in this game. If they think they can win the game by deliberately letting a scanned town Nolder survive to endgame, by all means, try that.

Far better is simply killing the scanned.

Look back and see for yourself brother.  i feel its pretty much common sense.  But look at my WHOLE case first and tell me if you feel the same way.    Like do you think my case resembles how i tried to push Yates in Diablo for example?

Posted

Yeah.

It basically means they have to avoid the attention of a player they know is confirmed town and it gives them a slimmer pool of potential mislynches each subsequent phase because theoretically Nolder, if peeked innocent, shouldn't be lynched until an F3 type scenario.

Posted

It is, of course, up to a seer whether or not to follow consensus. Surprising the scums by not scanning the consensus target is also very viable.

It should still improve Nolder's chances of eating a murder by a fair bit, since he's a tantalizing scan choice.
