It's okay so far. I figure we gotta wait for at least 6 episodes before really knowing if its as good or not.

Though, I'm kind of surprised they didn't show them caving in the last zombies head.. I mean..they've shown a hellava lot more gore in Walking Dead...

The zombies are fresh. The theory is that because they haven't had time to decay it's harder to stab or cave in their skulls.

Regardless, they panned the camera away as she was beating the one guys head in.

That might be network execs saying they look too human and too much "human gore" would get them in trouble with the FCC so better to cut away until they look more like monsters. Although the whole idea with FTWD is seeing the apocalypse as it happens so if they continue that trend it's going to be a really crappy show.

Just realized no episode tonight. They're skipping a week (or two?) for Labor Day.

Stupidest thing I've ever heard of since the show is on a god damn sunday anyway.

You know a network is full of greedy cowards when they wont let a show stand on it's merits and need to make sure every week is perfect for maximum viewers.

I hope the decision bites them and viewership falls by half or something.

Most shows like that take a hiatus because of any damned holiday. They are afraid its going to impact ratings.

Won't happen. I saw my 61 yr old brother for the first time in several years this weekend, As a Doctor, even he enjoys Zombie fic. My other Doctor-brother says he doesn't believe in zombies. I told him, "They believe in you". I did promise him that if I see him walking around as a zombie, I'd gladly shoot him in the head. What are brothers for?

Finale left me feeling very meh.

I wanted to see more societal breakdown because really that's what was supposed to set this show apart from TWD but we skipped weeks of that. And even afterwards we see all these shots of LA burning but...where are the people? Or rather, where are the zombies? The very last episode we see them driving around but only see a couple walkers here and there. The LA area has millions and millions of people there should be zombies roaming everywhere and no I'm sorry I just don't believe more people wouldn't be holed up and surviving at that point in time but they painted the city as dead. Do you know how many people could just lock themselves in apartments and be fine for weeks? Come on. It's like AMC was treating this as low budget and it really showed imo.

Ok so looking forward. Small cast and they're losing people quick. Didn't like much that the one lady got bit and knew to off herself. It felt like AMC knew we'd dealt with this stuff before and just wanted to avoid it but I guess it does make sense that people closer to the epicenter of outbreaks might have more info so whatever. I also wanted the soldier guy and doctor lady to join the group but it looks like they're trying to avoid having anyone with obvious talents in the group to take leadership role like Rick or Shane does in TWD. Also don't like that they built up the desert as the destination and at the end of the season end up at the beach. And apparently next season they're going to be on that boat? I hope that doesn't last too long. They need to break down and end up in Norcal or something.

Oh and the plane webisodes are 1min long? for like 2 months? lol yeah no thanks AMC I'll just watch it when it's done.

A boat however, is actually a pretty damned good way to travel and avoid zombies/prevent zombie attacks at night.

Fuel is an even bigger issue than with cars. I think it's a good short term option but people in TWD universe need long term solutions eventually.

Depends on the exact fuel they are using. I imagine the west coast is Littered with Marina's/refueling areas. Fuel that might not be 100% compatible with other types of vehicles. (I don't know if you have to use any kind of fuel mixture (with oil) or if it's straight gas/diesel) But I imagine most people looking for gas go to a gas station, not a Marina. And like everyone in there world, they seem to aim for cars instead of boats to escape zombies.

Side Note: Sails = no gas required.

Long term? Ya, it's not the greatest solution. (nor is traveling along in cars like in TWD)

Everyone seems to think scavenging for food/resources is the best solution in the TWD world...

As for people in FTWD, and why the cities are dead, i guess it depends on just how many days/weeks went by.

You can die of dehydration in as little as 2-3 days. Starvation around 30 days. (it varies)

It's entirely possible 99% of the city has already turned, and it's dead because the walkers only really move around when they hear/smell something that's tasty nearby. Course, even 1% of 10 million people is still a hell of a lot of people that should be running around/escaping.

In the Emberverse series (as an example), instead of zombies they had an issue of the laws of physics stopped working correctly. (combustion engines stopped working. Batteries don't hold a charge. And even Steam would only go up to around 200 psi before it couldn't go any higher)

They created this 'death zone' map.

http://pantheon.yale.edu/~ag335/united_states_dzones.jpg

Very, very few people in that series made it from those 'zones' and lived. (Starvation/Dehydration/Plague/Murder)

TWD/FTWD the zones would probably be smaller due to cars actually working... But then there's the zombie factor which probably works out to be nearly the same thing. Instead of x% dieing from thirst/hunger/other people, a greater % are dieing from hordes of zombies...

Sails = no gas required but also needs more food to travel the same distance. And not enough people will know the fine points of sailing in an age when everyone is used to modern travel. Things like yardarms and such. And they're all gonna have to learn how to navigate by the stars.

Isn't that why most early seafarers stuck by the coasts?

b'sides, there's gotta be enough how to sail for dummies books in libraries across the nation to read up on the subject, try it on smaller scale, before trying it on an actual ship.

I had a big problem with the way the military responded when the zombies attacked their base. They're firing full-auto and not taking head shots. WTF? It's not as if they haven't had several weeks of the ZA to figure out a thing or two. Another thing. Why weren't the fences reinforced? Parking big rigs along the fence would have none a world of good. The military isn't that stupid.

There are a lot of smart cookies in the Guard.

I didn't see the show yet but I think making them National Guard gives the writers a little leeway.  I mean, in 2015 I would expect the National Guard to have its act together, but if you assume that the outbreak occurs after an extended time of peace when the majority of the unit isn't likely to have ever been deployed, and you assume the unit is jacked up to begin with, some major mistakes become viable.  But even at that I'd toss in my chips with the most poorly prepared guard unit in the country over any non-military team.  Any sequence where they're easily overpowered for reasons other than an internal outbreak due to a lack of understanding of how the virus spreads is going to require a lot of imagination.
