A game I was hosting just ended and it was really intense; one thing I was reminded of from it is that wolves are so frequently in the middle of the POE. They aren't the soldiers on the front lines (at least not consistently) and they aren't the scummiest players that fall off the map and get lynched later for it. They display just enough WIM to get suspicion off them and onto someone else and then fade into the background again. They set up the dominoes and then let them fall. The more advanced wolves can hang in the thread for a while to gain town cred but once the village goes awry they fade out again. I watched it happen over and over. We saw this all last game with TG/Vos, Thane, and Halliami. So players who are always aggressively solving probably won't be scum and players who are aggressively useless probably won't be scum but probably will be lynches. It's those that are near the bottom of the POE but seem to always float back up a little when it matters that will be scum.

 

You could always try looking at things besides WiM.

 

 

Also, maybe someone could expain why clovdyx and woobat(that's his name?) are no longer a suspects? I don't have a strong conviction, but last I read of clovydx he was wolfish and the same goes for woobat(hope that's his name). clov more than woo.

 

I've never really been a "suspect" for anyone besides AJ, Tommy,and maybe Salami, so asking why I'm "no longer" a suspect doesn't make much sense to me.

Nyn, can you talk to me about this AJ read?  Based on your ISO, it looks like it's based largely on his handling of Csarmi.  Am I missing something, or does that sum it up pretty well?

 

FWIW, I was reading AJ as probable scum early in the game, but I'm feeling better about him.

 

He's sitting back and observing a bit too much for my taste. I expect him to be a lot more hands on as town. I think it was Des who pointed at this as a positive thing but I disagree.

 

I had him as null. Didn't really see anything that made him go into my town leans. And in light of his recent posts it made him go even lower on my list. Or up... depending how you look at it. He's being very narrow minded by saying that my scum leans are bad and most likely contain 0 wolves. I would have expected him to be a bit more open minded and explore what I've brought to the table. But he just labeled my list as no good and moved on just because he says so. Add to that the LOL comment about not making him shoot me at night and him telling us we should just trust him and vote Wombat..... just lol. And there was of course the whole segment about how much fun he was going to make of my reads post game... bla bla bla... trying to make me lose confidence in my leans.

 

If his case on Wombat is that rock solid then he shouldn't need to tell us o trust him and Tom and instruct us to sheep them. The case should stand by it's own merits and people should be drawn to vote there without him needing to nudge everyone in that direction.

 

 

Most of that can be explained by arrogance.  The dead thread comment was a bit weird though.

I see your point of Alanna potentially being a wolf for being able to present herself well enough to stay out of lynch range, but for now I'm willing to role with her as a green read without seeing any flips.

 

This is how I usually treat Alanna.  I almost always get town vibes from her because she sees the game similarly to me and always has good tone.  That makes it hard to read her early.  Usually by the time we get a few flips, her alignment should be more evident.  When she's town, she usually becomes obvtown by some point in the midgame.

In terms of the exchange that went on between Despo, Hallia, and csarmi - I feel like csarmi came out looking the worse here. He seemed to wiggle a lot on how he felt about Hallia, sometimes acting as though he was pretty confident she's town, other times agreeing she looked sketchy, and then that weird post about how, if she's town, he "needs her." Why? Because she's one of the few people who hasn't thrown suspicion your way?

 

I also just personally dislike that he said he doesn't like to lynch null reads on Day 1, but rather scum (well, duh, we all do, if we can get to where we feel sure enough that someone is scum). Yet when prodded by Clov to, you know, scumhunt and take a look back at Wombat (one of his top suspects, but one he felt unsure about), he declined on account of being too lazy to reread. How do you expect to find a stronger scumread to lynch then, csarmi?  Bottom line is, you come off sounding like scum who is content to sit back and see what lynch possibilities pop up that you can jump on. I see that you're doing a bit of a reread now, but I still don't like the perspective you took there.

 

As for Hallia, I feel a little bit better about her after her re-read, but she's not clear for me by any means. There were times there where she still came off to me a bit as looking for places to take advantage of a player, rather than truly scumhunting (such as in post 1147, where she didn't seem to get why Despo backed off Thane - I thought Despo had explained that pretty clearly by then). And having done some detailed rereads myself as scum before, in order to look like I'm trying to scumhunt and get some pressure off of me, I'm still leery of her.

 

Csarmi, I believe you explained why Hallia looks better to you now, but can you explain specifically what you mean about her responding in real time, or something? And why that makes her look more townie to you?

 

Also, some thoughts on some players I haven't weighed in on yet -

 

As far as Yates, he's looking all right to me so far with his catch-up posts. I don't think it was weird he didn't weigh in on some of the current thread stuff, because he hadn't caught up there yet. Makes sense to me.

 

I will admit Sili has made a few posts that seem off to me, but since I don't know his usual tone or playstyle at all, I'm willing to just keep a close eye on him for now. He has also made some good insights with some of his posts.

 

I really can't read Tommy at all. I've played like one game with him. I see that Despo's gone after him a bit, and while my views are aligning a lot with Despo's this game, I'm leery about his take on Tommy because the one game I've played before with the two of them, they went at each other really aggressively the whole time, so I'm wondering if they're just usually like that with each other.

 

Would really like to hear more from Pral; he never posts much, but I'm surprised he hasn't weighed in more. Verb often doesn't post on the weekend at all. Hopefully SP will check in soon.

What you said didn't really make sense- the point she was making wasn't that meta on you lead her to believe you were scummy, but that meta on you lead her to realize you often look scummy to her so she wasn't confident in her read on you

This.  Alanna has basically said she doesn't consider meta very reliable.  But if she's using meta to caution herself against a scum read, that's not a contradiction at all.  She's not using it as a means of convicting or clearing.

Which is who?  It seems every read you've given recently has been something you either limped into or attempted to play both sides on.  The one solid read I'm getting the impression you have you've already taken off the table.

So let me make this very clear.

 

I believe that the way Despoo was questioning Hally was probably the best way to kill her WiM and ensure that we can't figure her out.

I believe that it called for me to intervene especially cause i wasn't able to resolve her slot myself at all (explained above).

I believe that Despo suggesting that we should resolve her slot now (can't quote the post but it sounded like he was making an argument of "oh let's lynch her now cause even if she's town...") was scummy.

 

This lead me to believe that Despo is either being arrogant and not self-aware and wrong (he should know Hally) or he was looking to pysh a mislynch.

 

I will have to read through again to determine which.

Salami - my vote on you has to do with how quickly you are changing reads if you are questioned. Example: me. Clov came all in here, said I'm scum and you jumped on it. Nyn was like wtf are you talking about and you quickly unvoted. You look like jumpy scum. I'm definitely not moving it after that whole bit with you hard defending Hallia. Des did nothing wrong that I can see. I love Hallia, but it can get frustrating when she isn't in the game.
