It had been an okay enough week for Cory. He was keeping up with his gym routine and eating consciously. All in all, he felt major progress had been made. Things were looking up. Sunflowers had smiley faces and were dancing outside of his window. You know, imagery and stuff.

 

He whistled over to the scale for a weigh-in. This is my favorite part, he contemplated wistfully, seeing the fruits of your labor. One foot and then the other.

 

The scale spit out: 223.8.

 

Really? Are you flipping serious?

 

Maybe it was a bad time of day or something. Maybe gravity had become stronger this week? That's probably improbable. Still, he felt like he'd worked much harder than this. A fifth of a pound? He mines-well be exactly back where he started with nothing but lost time. Maybe he had some extra water weight and that was throwing off the result? Maybe he needed to cut down more on his calorie intake? Maybe this was all some sort of sick cosmic joke?

Cory decided to put on a face of optimism and see it another way: the foundation had been set, even if the first results had not been optimal... Surely, things would change?

Surely.

 

As he was walking back to his room he didn't even hear his dog crash into the pantry door and jar his bag of Blue Diamond almonds onto the floor. By the morning, they were gone*. Whatever plans he had for the weekend were quickly replaced by a long vet trip and a sick, sick dog.

 

After enough dog... expulsions, the mere concept of eating almonds was tied to a pretty nauseating association. Maybe it was time to take a break from his favorite mid-afternoon snack. He was thinking Cashews would be a good buy for next week. Yeah, Cashews. That sounds better.
