I was wondering if anyone around here had seen HBO's new show True Detective. I have been watching it form its first episode and it is completely mind blowing. It stars Matthew Macaugheyand Woody Harrelson, both at the absolute peak of their game. The show follows two detectives through 3 time periods, the first takes place in 2012 is centered around the two detectives relating the facts of the case of Dora Lang that took place in 1995, and also tells of the dissolution of their partnership in 2002. I have found this show to the absolute best thing going on TV at this moment, its is a taunt and riveting character study of to polar opposite men and their disfunctions, and then eventually takes a hard left turn into occult territory. These 3 quotes sum up this shows bleak philosphy quite well and have been completely freaking me out.

This show was great.  Some I talked to said they felt the ending let the rest of the show down, but I thought everything wrapped up more or less nicely and enjoyed the hell out of the show.

It's not "The Wire Good" but its pretty close.

 

Woody And Mc, nailed it. It starts off.. I don't want to say slow, but by the end of the first episode, it should start to hook you.

But True Detective is like a darker and grittier Wire, better-written Dexter with some SVU and humanistic elements thrown in.

Hello Newman.... Hello Jerry... Seinfeld is comedic genius. Raymond too.

 

 Loved True Detective, kind of skeptical the ending, but that was really the only downer for me. It doesn't touch "The Wire" ..... yet... three or four more seasons at this caliber and it might be on the same pedestal.
