The Dragon al'thor
Why are you all so naïve to think griffins exist? Species don't exist until there is scientific proof they do. Well considering 99% of all species ever to live on Earth have become extinct, and there are certain interesting and perhaps imaginative histories that include what could be thought of as a griffin. Gives thought to not entirely rule out their existence. Now is it very practical or probable that they ever existed, probably not. There is still however a possibility, however slight. Although, I do believe the question was on a more hypothetical situation. What is insanity? If in a group of people, everyone believes that the earth is flat, and then, one goes ahead and claims it is round, and says he will sail around the world, is he insane? We would say no, but in the past, yes was the answer. And maybe, he was. Maybe his insanity made him think something, that then turned out, to be the truth, even though he did not know. Is insanity, to believe that, that is wrong, or to believe that, what noone else believes? Or, to word it in another way, to not believe what everyone else believes? Indeed, but like many words in our language their meanings become less clear over time. All of our social and cultural norms are tailored to our society which keeps them. Ergo breaking away from the social "norm" goes against that culture. The definition of insanity can be characterized by a change that prevents "normal" perception and ways of doing things. So if an individual breaks away further from these social norms, we would call them crazy or insane, because they are not being like us. But what insanity was originally intended for was the mentally ill, and chemically imbalanced. To be insane, would be to trust no one, or to see the world so differently that one could not function normally (normal in this case for what could be defined as human behavior, emotions, and rationality). Other words that have had meanings become obscured through times, other great examples of this would be "heresy" and "anarchy." Heresy used to literally mean "to teach." So we would have the heresy of Plato, or the heresy of Aristotle. Anarchy used to mean, nobody rules, or that no one has more power than anyone else, but now a days it is characterized as chaotic and chaos. But anyways, don't mind me, I am crazy... Mrs. Cindy Gill
insanity is a legal concept, not a psychological one. fwiw. carry on.

Mrs. Cindy Gill
"such unsoundness of mind or lack of understanding as prevents one from having the mental capacity required by law to enter into a particular relationship, status, or transaction or as removes one from criminal or civil responsibility" insanity isn't part of the DSM, or of any modern psych evaluation. In a sense yes, but that's the magic of us having to put everything into categories and having subjective deffinitions with philosophical input. Most people who use the word insanity, do not use it in terms of its origins as a legal definition. Once we learned how to proper science, we kicked insanity out of our medical jargon, but do to courts not having to go into various mental health issues, insanity could still apply on paper. But like I was trying to say in my earlier post, words change over time. It is kind of like playing the telephone game, by the time we get to the last person, the original meaning becomes twisted or changed. But yeah, the gryphon would definitely team up with the birds. Reality in most cases is perception anyways, hence why everyone thought the world was flat. There is power in collective thoughts. There was a Chinese emperor who was convinced he was crazy. His advisors would move his belongings around and play tricks on him. The best trick they did was to bring a deer into the throne room, and everyone proceeded to complement how nice the "horse" looked. The emperor thought he was going mad. As well there is another study where people were put into an easy common sense test to measure which stick was longer. The error rate was less than 1% for people taking the test. Everyone except one person in the group was in on the experiment and would choose Wrong to see if they could influence the test subject. What they found out is at least 75% of people changed there answers to something they knew was wrong. Just because everyone else had the same answer, people would conform to them. Pretty remarkable, just goes to show you right or wrong, the power of collective thoughts influencing what is, and what is not is substantial. Smiley73
On our way home from town some days ago my daughter asked me this question. If there was a war between cats and birds, which side would the griffins fight for? Vote and explain your vote. Freja asks the tough questions.
