I don't necessarily hate the idea of Mega Evolutions but I hate how it's been implemented.

Now randomly certain pokemon can become "mega". Existing pokemon that is.

I could easily turn a blind eye when they added things genders and eggs and things like that even though it bears the question "where was this before?".

It was obviously a natural progression to the series and something that should have been in the games all along.

But seriously Ampharos has been around for quite awhile. It evolves from two different sheep but now suddenly it's a dragon if it goes Mega? WTF??

I guess that was the only way they could think of to "improve" Ampharos.  I've always thought Absol needed an evolution, or a pre-evolution, but giving it the ability to Mega Evolve isn't much of an improvement.  And Blaziken is plenty powerful as it is now.  Mawile makes no sense in my book.

I find it interesting that Xerneas is the Life Pokemon and Yveltal is the Destruction Pokemon.  Wonder if that's going to play a major role in the story?

Maybe they're just trying to make Mawile worth using. You know, like when they gave evolutions to Lickitung and Electabuzz.

I will say, though, Absol's Mega form is pretty badass. I expect that one's going to be very popular with gijinka cosplayers.

They did that already. Meditite/Medicham.

Fennekin's evolved form is neat, but Chespin's evolution is probably the stupidest thing they've ever had a starter turn into.

Charizard's mega form is pretty good. Slimmer, too; for being every 12-year-old's favorite, it was awfully chunky. But good lord, did Garchomp really need a mega form?

Well, there are those....

Yeah, it looks like a cross between a gopher and an otter... or something.  In my opinion, that's what Charizard should've looked like all along.  It seems like they're just making powerful pokemon even more so, if for no other reason than badass appeal.  It's working, I gotta admit.

Power effing houses.  That's what mega evolutions are, each and every one.  Tyranitar, Aggron, Gengar, Charizard, Mewtwo, Blastoise, Venusaur, Khangaskan, Blaziken, Lucario, Absol, Ampharos, Mawile and who knows what else.  These games are going to be very tricky, with the type changes and new battle systems, in addition to the ME's.  Can't wait!

I'd say Kangaskhan, Ampharos, Aggron, and Mawile needed the help, but yeah, the rest of them were already perennial asskickers to one degree or another (I'm to understand using a Charizard in competitive play these days is asking to get laughed out of the building).

The competitive scene revolves around about ten moves, plus support. One of those moves is Stealth Rock, which will eat 50% of a Charizard's HP if active when you switch in. I guess it just depends on what level you're trying to use it. This has a fairly helpful primer.

Oh, add Absol in with the list of pokemon getting a mega form because Gamefreak thought they should have been asskickers to begin with and weren't.

edit: Oh holy mother of god there are a ton of new megas for first-, second-, and third-gen pokemon now. Heracross and Alakazam also didn't need the help, but at least they look cool.
