Just watched the gameplay trailer. You know, it's nice that the 3DS gives them the ability to get real animation into the battles (Gen V sort of did it, but it looked horrible on the tiny sprites), but damned if it doesn't look like making the battles take three times as long. Wonder if they'll do what BW did and let you switch animations off.

It would definitely be a nice change of pace to have the fire starter pick up a secondary type that isn't fighting, plus I can't think of if there's been any water/fighting types since Poliwrath way back in Gen I. Psychic seems an odd choice for a starter, though.

Ehhh it looks ok I guess

It seems like they really want to make the pokemon world more of an open world/exploration type deal but they just hold themselves back

If they'd just move the main series to a console...

To me, Psychic seems like the only logical choice.  None of the other types seem to fit well with Fire, cept for fighting, and yeah, that is getting a little stale.

I'm sorta excited about the customization of the PC, but on the same note, I'm not.  It's cool and all, but I think it takes away from the traditional Pokemon feel.  Maybe it's just me being nitpicky.

I keep saying what the series really needs is an MMO. Buuuut, then they couldn't sell the same game twice.

Also, who says they needed a secondary type at all? Three out of five final-form grass-type starters have been monotype. Same with the water starters. Typhlosion is really the only monotype final form fire starter thus far.

I must have missed the bit about PC customization, but that's okay because who cares.

 That's what expansions are for....

Or better yet..

Season Pass + Expansions!

That's not selling the same game twice, that's selling brand new code to augment existing software. What they've been doing so far is selling the exact same game under two different names every single time, with a couple of event flags changed between versions.

If you would be required, to buy a 'season pass' to play the game, period, even yearly. And on top of that, have a so-called 'event flag change' via the 'expansion method'... They could effectively keep the same method. Anyone who doesn't pay for a season pass, simply can't play for a year.  Expansion = minor changes to plots/quests/pokemon. (perhaps a reset? Like a game with a' ladder'?)

I don't think we'll ever see an MMO because Nintendo wants to keep Pokemon on their systems.

The main series anyway.

The best we'll ever see I think is a main series game on a Nintendo console with a more "open world".

Shouldn't be that difficult to put one on their Wii-U... It just couldn't be as 'modern' as most other mmos in that regard.

So Fennekin is the heaviest of the starters...   The land/sky theme of the legendaries is a bit reminiscent of R/S/E and the Stonehenge-esque structure on the west side of the map reminds me of the Relic Stone in Colloseum and Gale of Darkness.  Maybe that's where Xerneas is found?  I want to know the player's home town as much as anything, cause it's usually one of the first towns revealed.  And Sylveon's type.  But it probably won't be revealed until E3 or later...

  • 2 weeks later...

Maybe it's because I don't really play the game anymore, but I must have missed when dragon-type got to the point of psychic-type circa 1999; ie., so overpowered that the only way to nerf it was to introduce a type specifically built to mess it up. Probably when they ended up with more than ten final-stage dragons, I guess.

My guess is they came up with it in Japan where it doesn't have quite so many definitions and that Nintendo of America either didn't know or didn't have the heart to tell them what kind of douchebags permeate the American gaming public and what they would do with a name like that.

That aside, given the series' history, it doesn't bother me beyond giving Gamefreak an excuse to create Pokemon like Sylveon that have little ribbons and bow ties as part of their anatomy.

Well when it comes down to it I'm okay with the change.  I'm sure it will be interesting.  I was just saying that creating a type just to counter a type that already has weaknesses didn't seem like a great idea.  Also when I think of dragons and fairies I do not see fairies being able to beat a dragon.
