E-Sports

Not sure if this belongs here or in TV/Sports section since it's kinda a mix of both, but are there any E-Sports fans here?

Ummm yeah I'm a bit of a fan. I don't follow it as much as I used to but if there's a big event going on like Evo or Dreamhack I might tune in. Speaking of Evo that's coming up pretty soon...

Lol. And LoL. That's basically the only E-Sport I'd say I watch. League of Legends. And I don't really follow it all that closely. I like to play more than watch.

Is there a big following for LoL in Esports? I know it's a very popular game but I didn't realize they have anyone casting or that there is even any major tournaments that host it.

Yeah. It's part of Dreamhack and other things like that. They have a lot of tournaments and stuff. From what I've seen there's quite a decent sized following for it in E sports. Like I said though, I don't follow it that closely. But I'd say they probably get millions of viewers. I occasionally go onto a single member from a five member teams' personal streaming channel and they'll have upwards of 50K viewers.

Yeah, from what I can tell, LoL is the biggest E-Sport. I mostly just watch StarCraft 2 though, which should be getting a pretty big injection soon as the Brood War pros finally switch over and the expansion come out. But yeah, I watch a lot of MLG, IPL, GSL, Dreamhack etc. E-Sports is growing.

Fan of Day9? I used to watch the daily...daily lol. Now I only catch it once in awhile though.

Another fan of the Thought Hammer? Awesome. Yeah, I watch him quite regularily. Although I admit that I first just watched Funday Monday, (gosh those are hilarious, especially that one with mass queens. I can't wait for the neural parasite enemy workers one that's coming up next) I now watch a lot of his regular Dailies and Newbie Tuesdays as well.

I watched more when I was more into esports and also able to play SC2. Since I'm not really trying to improve my game (I'm terrible btw) I normally just watch funday monday if I watch at all. Still love him though. I kinda want to wander around LA since I live here and try to find him lol.

That'd be pretty awesome. I know he's pretty friendly to any friends he meets (just watched an AMA where he talked about it).

 

I hope that one day e-sports will break into television like it did it Korea.

I got addicted watching SC2 matches for a while. Had a couple of favourite players but can't recall their names now. Also watched day9's Fundays, always good for a laugh.

Decided to check out some of the newer matches and remembered my 2 favourite players are Whitera and TLO.

My current favourites for each race are PartinG, Bomber, and Symbol, my favourite foreigners are HuK and NaNiWa, and my favourite team is StarTale.

July just fell out of Code A sadly, and I hear he's retiring and joining the military which is too bad.

 

I haven't seen much of Sheth, but I hear he's the most mannered player in StarCraft.

Yeah, honestly I enjoy watching pretty much all of the big names out there

Some of them stream a lot on Twitch so even if there's no major tournament going on you can usually get your fix of awesome games if you feel like it

Yeah, there's almost always something interesting to watch. The only downside to it all is that most of the Korean tournaments/streamers are broadcasted in the middle of the night due to timezone differences.

Has anyone been following the Trial of the Xel'Naga?

I just watched the first match between Illusion and White Ra and man that was crazy

 

 

I can't believe team Illusion managed to win

it was like all the nukes were dropped on them in every game

Really close match though either way

 

 

Still gotta catch up on match two and I think the third one is tonight so I might watch that live

Oh man, I unfortunately was not able to watch most of it live, but I have been watching the VODs and this was like the most amazing StarCraft event ever. I really hope they do this again some time because that was about as entertaining and hilarious as it gets. (I think my favourite moment was in Game 3 of Bomber vs. Bling when they had to do a regame because Day9 got too carried away with the mod abilities.

 

In other news, I got a beta key for Heart of the Swarm!! I'm so excited to start testing out the new units. Was anyone else here lucky enough to get one?
