Somewhere I read that RJ already wrote the last scene in the entire series, and that it has Mat and Aviendha observing the landscape.

I wouldn't put much stock into the WoT Encyclopedia's numbering the AMoL chapters at 40, nor with them placing the words "Rand POV" on the AMoL Prologue, Chapter 1, and Epilogue webpages. It actually looks like they simply set up a few draft webpages with "placeholders" so they could have a framework to work from. Light, Brandon hasn't even started writing the book yet!

About the Mat and Aviendha thing also? Never heard that before.

I'm pretty sure I saw it here sometime last October / November. It was an RJ quote from a Q&A session or something. I don't have a link to it tho.

Anyway, we do know that RJ planned to write "Mat and Tuon return to Seanchan" outrigger novels, so that must mean the Dark One will lose again and the world will be saved. Add to that Min said her viewings will come true if the Dark One loses, and one of her viewings was that Aviendha will give birth to quads, so (unless that viewing was fulfilled when Aviendha went through the columns) she must survive too.

Based on the above, it's not improbable that the last scene in AMoL could be with Mat and Aviendha.

Solid reasoning regarding both Mat and Aviendha surviving the Last Battle. However, I can't find that quote in Mat's and Aviendha's sections of Theroyland's interview database. Perhaps you remember when or where RJ's revealed that fact?

EWOT did the exact same thing for ToM last year, labeling everything a 'Rand PoV'. He'll change it as more info becomes available.

As far as the RJ quote, the first I've ever heard of it was here on Dragonmount and that was recently. I've never seen an actual quote from either RJ or anyone in Team Jordan that backs it up.

The Mat-Aviendha reveal was in a post in one of the threads. I took the comment as accurate when I saw it posted. I don't know the poster's source, except that s/he said it came from RJ. The Dragonmount Forum search engine was less than useful, because we can't search on "Mat" - the word only has three letters (aakkk).

Trolling through a few collections of RJ comments, all I've been able to find tonight is that RJ frequently said he already knew the last scene from the last book before he started writing the series.

Using Google I was able to find that @randsc seems to know about that quote, and perhaps @FarShainMael does as well. I'll PM the both of them and see what I can dig up. I'll keep you updated here.

@graendalzooescapee also seems to know.

Will definitely survive: Mat and Aviendha (RJ said they were in the final scene) and Tuon (because of the outrigger).

Probably won't die: Rand's women (3 on a boat)

Everyone else could easily be toast.

I've seen those comments about the epilogue around the place too. At first I thought the info was clearly wrong, because if RJ had ever actually said that about Mat and Aviendha then Theoryland would have it somewhere and it would be more widely known.

But then I thought about it and I remembered that the only thing we've seen about what happens post-TG is that vision Avi had about the Aiel getting wiped out by the Seanchan. Avi's descendents were the rulers on the Aiel side and presumably Mat's descendents were the rulers of the Seanchan. So it would make a sort of sense for the last scene to be about those two. Not saying it's true, but it would make sense.

For something like this, it's best to use the Future Books category. I usually get relevant quotes over into the various character's categories but I would tend to go to Future Books first, and if it's something that's only trivially relevant to the character, I might not transfer it over at all.

Anyway, there are tons of quotes dealing with the last scene in the RJ section under AMOL (there are also sections for the prequels and outriggers and encyclopedia), but I don't recall this one. If it does exist I'd love to find it.

By the way, I should point out that I'm hardly the final word on the subject. I find old stuff I hadn't known existed all the time, and so does Marie Curie. I usually post at Theoryland when I find old reports, but just the fact that it happens so often should let you know there's probably a great deal more floating around out there that I've yet to find. The Internet is a big place, and archiving technology is improving constantly. That being said, this one is difficult to search for, and I'm hoping that if it does exist, then you guys will be able to find it.

Thanks. For what it's worth, neither Mat's nor Aviendha's names appear in that section in relation to the last scene, and I've given up on searching for the word 'last' after the 134th time I've read RJ saying that he's known the last scene from the very beginning without specifying anything at all about it. Oh yeah, he said that once he might've ended it with the word 'world', but he later changed his mind and he might use 'turns' instead. Then he continued to laugh at how little that helps us.
