Can it be done in just one more book?

With all the major loose ends, can it be done in just 1 more book?

  1. 1. Can Brandon really tie it up in just one more and do honor to RJ's vision and story?

    • No, it will be way too rushed, there needs to be 3 more.
    • No, it will be too rushed, AMOL should be 2 books.
    • Yes, but it will feel rushed and leave a lot of loose ends.
    • Yes, it will maintain the natural flow of the story and do RJ justice.
  2. 2. If TOR/Brandon doesn't want to do the outriggers, do you think that Brandon will be forced to kill Matt or Tuon to kill the outriggers idea as we expect them to live now?

    • No, they better not!
    • Yes, they will have to.
    • Possibly, that's got me thinking and wondering.

I have to say I'm surprised at the number of people that have posted here indicating that AMOL should not have been split up. I can see the point some people are making that there was some fluff in ToM (especially the Perrin/Galad scenes), and that there are no good division points to make between the 3 books of AMoL. However, look at all that happened in TGS-Rand and Egwene's characters made huge strides in that book, and closed out two large plot arcs. One can argue that there was some fluff with Mat and Perrin's scenes in TGS, but there wasn't too much fluff.

Point is that can you imagine if Rand and Egwene's plot arcs from TGS was covered in the same binding as the Last Battle? That would definitely feel too rushed.

I can't agree. Rand and Egwene's arcs needed to advance. They could have been done in less space, especially Egwene's. If you think about it, the meat of Egwene's story in TGS is a single chapter.

I don't think there is any real problem with splitting AMOL into three, but I also don't think it was necessary. More pages does not necessarily equal better. Just look how much the plot was advanced, and how much was wrapped up, in Verin's chat with Egwene. That was, what, 8 pages?

I think Egwene had multiple chapters with meat-the fight with Elaida at dinner, A Visit with Verin Sedai, along with the chapters dealing with the Seanchan raid and reunification of the Tower. While it can be argued that Verin's visit is the most important of the book for Egwene, the other chapters with Elaida and the Seanchan are pivotal as well, IMHO.

Perhaps both Rand and Egwene's arcs could have been done in less space, but it still have taken a decent chunk of space to cover their respective progression through TGS.

I do agree with you that more pages does not necessarily equal better quality. I still feel though that there was no way to cover all of the events they needed to cover the events from TGS through AMOL under one binding. But I do agree that there is still a bit of fluff/fat inside the last two books.

I cannot think of much that could be cut from TGS or TOM! One example that comes to mind is mat talking about boots with setalle anan! But for the most part, none of it is superfluous. The book that needed trimming was COT - you could have taken the most important scenes and added them to books 8, 9 and 11 and removed book 10 altogether.

I think everything should fit into book 14 just about. It will be a bit manic, but I think it will work, esp if multiple plot arcs are resolved in the same thread.

All Im saying is ToM feels like the filler book of the three. TGS was awesome, ToM setting everything up and getting rid of side plots and moving bigger pieces into place. AMoL I think will be one book, but it will be big. I can see it feeling rushed even if it is big because theres a lot of big stuff to happen, a lot of big names that need some serious thunder.

In all honesty, if it gets split I dont think I'll be reading anymore Wheel of Time. These books kick ass but I just want it to end, damn it! I cant imagine what the people who found the series in its early days must feel like. Unless Book 14 is on par with TGS of course.

I think this poll needs another option...

Yes, but the book will be approximately 1800 pages.

I think Brandon really wants to get this done. Lets face it, as much of an honor as it is for him to have been chosen, and as much fun as it may be, I doubt he wants to spend much more time writing somebody else's story. He just started a new series which is going to be 10 books+. I just can't see him wanting to delay the ending further by splitting this up, unless he absolutely has to. (And yes, I know he has said he would consider writing the prequels if asked, but I think that would be after a couple of years. Just a feeling).

No, the final book will not be split.

It is foolish to believe otherwise. Wishful, and optimistic... but foolish.

Remember that tGS, ToM, and AMoL were all just going to be one book, originally. It was going to be the 12th and final book. Then it was decided that it needed to be split into three. To seriously expect the author, or publisher, to split this book that is already 1/3rd of a prior split of a book that was fully intended to be a single final installment would make absolutely no sense whatsoever.

I don't think it'll be split at all.

We're not going to have many story arcs soon, they are all converging.

What do we have left right now?

The Field of Merrilor combines the Rand, Perrin, Elayne and Egwene story arcs.

That only leaves us with Mat/Moiraine, Caemlyn, Tuon and the Black Tower with some Fain and Forsaken PoV's to sprinkle in.

BS already said the BT arc will be cleared up early in the book because it is a lil behind the others in the timeline and needs to be caught up before moving on.

Oh and raise your hand if you believe the Asha'man will play a pivotal role in saving Caemlyn.

I think Mat will be the busiest, always leaving things to the last minute and all as per usual  He has to get the Horn, collect the Band and re-unite with Tuon.

I think we will get a lot of split chapters though, many folks seeing the same thing at the same time.
