A new Mistborn novel is coming out in 2011. No title or release date yet, but it's a short story that Sanderson was writing during his WoT off-period and it's ballooned out to about 60,000 words, maybe more now. Tor have bought the rights and it'll be out next year.

So, 2011 will not be Sandersonless after all. The new book is set a couple of centuries after the trilogy and we will see a world where technology has moved on, and firearms now coexist alongside allomancy.

wasnt he also tentatively planning to release the 2nd book in his Stormlight epic in 2011 as well??

i didn't much care for the mistborn trilogy cause i couldn't dig the main characters, maybe these will be better.

No, he wasn't planning to write the next Stormlight book until after AMoL was completed. So we won't see that until 2013 at the earliest.

Sanderson has said he'll try to get STORMLIGHT #2 out in late 2012 but, unless it's notably shorter than THE WAY OF KINGS, I don't see it happening. Early 2013 might be a better bet.

I'm pretty sure at the beginning of Way of Kings it says he has been working on the Stormlight series for several years now, it also seemed to allude to the fact that a lot of it was written and that he just needs to go back and fix it up add pieces and such. So it could be out a lot quicker than what a normal book of that size can take. Plus the man can smash books out like crazy :p

This new Mistborn book is complete at about 68,000 words which is kinda short for a fantasy novel (I'm thinking Terry Pratchett sized novel here). And it contains at least one awsome fight scene with a firearm and a Mistborn (can you imagine the possibilities with that one?).

I need to read these mistborn books, I started the first one but got fairly bored 100 pages in, but a lot of people I respect the opinions of are saying they are good. I guess I'll give it another go.

That'd be about 175 pages in hardcover, maybe 250 in paperback if they put it in a big font. That's still shorter than all but maybe two or three of Pratchett's books (his recent ones have been closer to 500 pages, maybe 150,000-200,000 words).

I know I'm a little late to respond, but here goes.

Yes I can imagine this scene. Unless the firearm is shooting non-metal based bullets, the scene should go quite quick and easy. Bang, bullet flies, Mistborn or Misting pushes bullet back into shooter. Fight over.

A couple of things to remember - Brandon's Mistborn respect the laws of physics (they don't really bend or break them, they just have new ones all to themselves!). Bullets have a lot of kinetic energy in them, which will effect the outcome. If the bullet were fired straight on, the mistborn's push would start to slow it down, then it would stop it (hopefully in time), then it would send it flying back at the target with the same speed as the coins in the Mistborn trilogy had. If the mistborn and bullet were off center, then the mistborn could just redirect it pretty easily. A mistborn could also pull on a bullet to redirect it away from someone else, or shoot bullets around corners (not sharp ones though). Lot's of fun possibilities!

What I really hope to see is a clever allomancer using one or more firearms.
