just been re-reading the series and in book nine page 447 in Far Madding possibly or maybe someone posing as him "Suddenly a wave of dizziness hit him,a murky face filling his vision for a instant, and he staggered against a passerby.Taller than Rand himself in bright green livery, the yellow-haired man shifted the large basket he was carrying and fended Rand off gently.A long puckered scar ran down the side off his sun-dark face.Bowing his head,he murmured an apology and hurried on." any thoughts?

That's an Aiel. A lot of them ran off, some of them to Far Madding, after the Bleakness took them.

Sammael is toast! - RJ

Also, Sam is shorter than Rand. And he would not carry a basket. Neither would he just fend off Rand gently. Pound his face, more like.

also if it was Sam Rand would have recognised, im pretty sure he had enough LTT in him to at least recognise the forsakens faces. Was never explained about someone who looked like Sam leading trollocs through the ways..?

Luckers has an entertaining theory about the trolloc raid sent by somebody who looked like sammael.

Tel Janin was shorter than average and had a complex about it.

Yeah, Sammael is dead. But, I understand that the general consensus is that Aginor and Balthamel are the first two Forsaken to be released from the Bore, but in re-reading EotW, this entire setup sounds like Sammael.

Everyone in the room was laughing, he thought as he danced around his next partner, one of the serving maids with her apron flapping wildly.

The only unsmiling face he saw was on a man huddled by one of the fireplaces, and that fellow had a scar that crossed his whole face from one temple to the opposite jaw, giving his nose a slant and drawing the corner of his mouth down. the man met his gaze and grimaced, and Rand looked away in embarrassment. Maybe with that scar the fellow could not smile

Seems silly to have 2-3 pages discussing this guy, who apparently loathes Rand on sight, then disappears, if not for a good reason.

Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly, but wasn't that Gode, the DF who attacked them? Or was that a different guy.

I agree, that is what Lan explained it as, but as a plot device, we've already learned that the Whitecloaks have spies everywhere and people fear them. It seems a little over the top, to me, to go into a 2 page examination of a single random Whitecloack "spy", who happens to have a scar from brow to jaw across the face.

Just saying.
