Lanfear's location (pre- ToG)

Alright, im doing a re-read of the series (up to 6th so far) for Towers of Midnight.

Im currently on Fires of Heaven. Something has really annoyed me this time round, I am not sure if it has been discussed, and with the new DM out, i cant find out, so ill post it.

Anyway, its about Lanfear.

Now I know that we dont actually know where she is, but this annoyed me every time she opened a gateway, it described a room full of white and silver silk.

It seems to be just a affirmation of her character, how she always wears white, and so i havent taken much notice of it before, but now it really annoys me, because it is mentioned every single time. Now I can understand once, but why multiple times?

First off we see it in the Shadows Rising

The Shadows Rising Chapter 58: The Traps of Rhuidean

Briefly she scanned the plaza again, lips pursed; then abruptly a door opened beside her, not a door to blackness, but into what seemed a palace chamber, all carved in white marbleand white silk hangings.

Then it is mentioned explicitly again a few sentances later.

She stepped into the chamber of white marble and silk, and the dooway seemed to turn sideways, narrowed, vanished.

Next we see it in the Prologue of Fires of Heaven from Rhavin's point of view.

Fires of Heaven Prologue: The First Sparks Fall

In the middle of the chamber a gateway stood above the red-and-gold carpet, an opening to somewhere else. He had a brief view of a chamber lined with snowy silken hangings before it vanished...

Again we see it in Chapter 6

Fires of Heaven Chapter 6: Gateways

But Lanfear already had a gateway open, to somewhere full of white silk hangings and silver.

Now when we see Lanfear we always see her described as wearing white and silver.

So, we have this reccuring view of a chamber of white. What does this mean?

Obviously she is somewhere very white. The first thought is the White Tower, but even there, I cannot see a room like a palace chamber. Not even for AS.

Do we know of any palaces that have an abundance of white?

Or is there something mroe to it? Could it be a palace in the blight? Somewhere else like Shara?

So, am I overreacting? Or is there something here?

It just seems to me that the same thing repeated 4-5 times precisely, well, there arent many coincidences in the WoT, and I cant put it down to jsut being Lanfear's character development.

Yeah, Perrin's wolf dream gives the most insight on it. I asked this same question a while back and got no clear response. I'll see if I can find it.. (it has the quote already typed out).

Found it. Sort topics: I started, good filter.

So the one in the wolf dream doesn't have the same description, but there's usually more than one room per building.

  • 2 weeks later...

To quote a reply from Drifter's thread.

I always thought she just lived in T'A'R full time. She claims T'A'R as her domain, I figured her room was in it and so she gets ticked at Perrin when he stumbles upon her hide out.

That's the impression I get.

Although not as skilled in T'A'R as Moggy, she still has amazing control over it. Nothing I've seen leads me to believe her incapable of creating such a place in The Dream.

It was just Perrin's misfortune to stumble upon it.
