I'm not sure what that imlpies--did he mean 'restrict sales to America'?

My guess is he meant "prohibit distribution" when he said "restrict sales to." Meaning that unless they're told they can't sell to that country, they will. That would make the most sense. An author/publisher may very well say "you can't sell this version to this country" because they're planning to use another imprint in that country or something.

I was really happy with the PDF of the TGS prologue I bought from Powell's last year. All I had to do was set up an account and download some free Adobe page viewing software. They don't even send me junk e-mail. It was the only non-kindle version I could find and I wanted to buy from them again. That really stinks. I thought the whole Amazon fiasco was over.

ChrisW contacted Powell's and got this response:

Thank you for contacting us.

Unfortunately, all Macmillan ebooks were made unavailable to us due to a change the way ebooks are being sold at this time. This was a result of Amazon's refusing to allow publishers set the price of their ebooks and the resulting changes this forced.

It is our hope that ebooks from Macmillan and other publishers will be made available to us again soon and we are making some changes that should speed up that process. At this time I do not know for certain if this book will be available through us outside of the United States. We will certainly offer it if the publisher does not restrict the sale to Australia.

Thank you very much for your interest.

My best,

Mike

Gah, the way i'm reading this is that they won't have it (as they don't have any Macmillan ebooks atm), and if by some miracle, they do get it in time for tonight, then it still might be unavailable to non-US people.

I still haven't had any response to my tweet that I sent Tor and Orbit btw.

Owain,

I live in the UK, and ordered the prologue via kindle amazon.com, just changed the setting on my iphone to US rather than UK. Don't know if it has worked yet, but will update if / when it gets delivered tomorrow. I'm not sure whether iphone kindle works differently to other delivery systems...

As for waiting until December for Way of the Kings, google the "the book depository" you'll pay normal price (I think I paid £16), rather than the discounts usually offered by Amazon, but you don't pay shipping costs and, more importantly, they got me a copy of the Way of the Kings over two weeks ago, less than a week after I placed my order!

This is doing my nut, given that the other early release chapters (1&2 I think BS said) will probably be based on things that have happened in the prologue. This means that unless I can find a way of getting hold of the prologue I can't read them either! grrrrrr!! I'm going to come back in 2 hours when it's past midnight then see if I can get hold of a copy again...

If I remember correctly there are very few incidents where the prologue impacts the first quarter of the book.

Ive just tried that now as well. Seems to have worked, had to change my address though lucky as I was in america for a while so I used that address. As for book depository, yeah have used it before for Paul Kearney's Hawkwood series, it twas cheap 15 euro for 6 books. Way of Kings is priced as 36euro in hardback sold out of paperback. Is it good or rather is it worth paying that much?

Ok, I have a question that is probably REALLY ignorant, and I apologize in advance, but I do NOT know alot about this stuff...my question is:

Do you have to have a Kindle/Reader Device to get the prologue. I don't have any of those deals, but, do, obviously, have a computer. Can I just order it from Amazon (or wherever) and have it on my laptop to read?

Amazon provide Kindle software for free for PC's.

EDIT:

Ok, I've gone the Kindle route. It goes against every single principle I hold dear regarding open formats, the right to move devices etc. But I jsut can't wait. Yes, WoT has made me a sell-out (I hope your happy Orbit - you could have made some money out of me!)

I just hope that I don't get a legal letter on my doorstep as I'm pretty sure that providing a false address (for switching stores - not for billing!) is against the T's & C's

Yes

Go here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=sa_menu_karl3?ie=UTF8&docId=1000493771

And click on Windows PC. Then Download now.

Install it, and when it asks you, login with your Amazon account.

Then go here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0040ZN3M8/ref=s9_simh_gw_p351_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1SKM6WC8VJ5BJRBK1SGB&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846

And click on 'Change your country' or words to that effect.

Follow the procedure providing a US address (it won't be used for billing) - I used a hotel in NY.

Confirm the changes.

Go back to the Distinctions page, you should now be able to preorder it.

Do so, using your UK billing address for your payment card.

Then just wait.
