DRAGONMOUNT

A WHEEL OF TIME COMMUNITY

Rand will bring everybody close to him to him

Recommended Posts

The whole debacle with Cadsuane, Tam and then Rand's apiphany on Dragonmount led me to believe that like Lews Therin, Rand is going to draw those that are close to him to him.  I don't know if they'll be staying in a Palace, like Lews Therin right before he went mad or not however.

I think he's going to ask Tam to stay with him until the end because he needs the support.

Anyone else think this is likely?

Yeah, i dont think Rand will change tooo much. Even though he has been kinda a prick, he has learned some valuble things, and not all of his "Dark Rand" actions were all that bad.

Really, if Rand takes a complete 360 and starts to act like a humble, perfect angel, i would be extremly disappointed.

He went too far with the whole Cuendillar thing, but he cant just be a "do-no-wrong" goody. He needs to have a bit of steel in him. I think that FoH/LoC Rand was a pretty good balance (in terms of actions, not in regards to his impending madness due to the taint.)

That said, to answer the question more directly, I agree with Durinax here, he will still try to keep those he cares for safe, but will realize that he doesnt have to do it by himself, and that he can trust SOME people. (another thing, i will be extremely disappointed if he suddenly starts trusting AS, really, that distrust was well earned.)  IMO he should trust Mat, Perrin, Nynaeve, Tam, Dobraine, Bashere, Aviendha, Elayne, Min, Cadsuane, The Aiel, Berelain, and Moiraine. All of the others have earned the distrust and weariness.

Rand won't become a goody goody two shoes; he still needs to be hard. But he grew so hard before that he basically became emotionless and stopped caring, and thus thats the problem. He needs to be more like Lan, who has created a pretty decent balance.

I dont think hes a goody two shoes as of VoG but I do think he will begin to do things very differently.

I thik we will see Rand begin to find his balance of hardness and humanity very soon though. As has already been said, trust is what we will begin to see in the new Rand, but not too much though. There is still the thing of Darkfriends being everywhere, and at this stage he will be making the most important moves of his role and those plans being heard by the wrong people is still a very, very serious problem, not to mentiin the fact that people always scheme for their own benefit. It would be foolish for him to suddenly start giving everyone the benefit of the doubt.

The list I think he will begin to trust or rebuild relationships to or work closely with, I think, will consist only Mat, Perrin, Nynaeve, Elayne, Min, Aviendha, Moiraine, Lan, Cadsuane, Narishma, Flynn and Logain.

One thing I anticipate about Rand is... in remembering more than just Lews Therins lives he will lose the "fumbling idiot in an unknown world" aspect. To me it feels like in integrating with his past lives (which I think is not madness, and was supposed to have happened long since) he technically became the oldest person in the series, he has the experience of Lews Therin and whoever else. TGS showed him knowing of several undercurrents and nifty tricks with the One Power that we didnt know he knew before, the main example being the Traveling trick to learn an area without spending much time there, and controling the immediate climate around him for his own comfort like Graendal did.

Bah, interruptions, was going to say more so I'll continue later

I think it is a good list, but I'd throw in Loial, Berelain, Faile, Dobraine, Bashere, Egwene (though she may have to earn it), Agelmar, Ituralde, Darlin & Caraline, Alliandre, Rhuarc & Amys and most of the Aiel, Morgase and her group, most of the Sea Folk, the proven non-black AS + Cadusane's group and his sworn siters. Maybe even Galad and Gawyn, Tylee (through Perrin), and Tuon (through Mat).

Of course, he'll likely be burned a time or two as well. Is there a DF on the above list?
