Pole Dance (by Reyn)

Check the vids. Trust me. And then if you still disagree, either discuss it out here or of course hold your opinion and go your own way - so long as it does not disrupt from other people learning to open their minds.

I'll watch them tomorrow, most likely. As a dance, it certainly differs from more traditional dance forms. One might inquire as to what state of mind pole dancing corresponds to; just as ballroom dancing corresponds to controlled, precise actions, and much of modern dancing (at my HS :P) corresponds to spontaneous expression, what does pole dancing correspond to?

*imagines Thor doing Pole dance and chuckles*  :P

*Tries to not smile and fails miserably* Now, don't you get any ideas

there. lol.  :P I would fall on my face if I tried that.  ;D

But, I actually did not know that they had a federation. That is cool.

Very good info.

Pole dancing certainly does require a lot of control, Lo13, focusing in arm and core strength to get the more advanced positions, as well as building up certain friction points for other holds - but the great thing about it is that you can also throw in some spontaneous expression around the dance moves. The reason I chose the two videos posted is because the first shows just how difficult the dance moves can be and how much control is necessary, while the second shows how you can integrate those amazing moves into more of an expression of dance. Each pole dancer puts their own style into their dancing, whether it is sexy or vulnerable, spunky or soft. To me, pole dancing is a blend of gymnastics and dance... which I think is why I love it so much.

actually I do have well developed upper body strength, I used to power lift and have always been very athletic, I've also been in gymnastics only two years but thats enough to learn to do pull overs on and uneven bars as well as tumbling and vault and the balance beam.

dancing/hanging from a pole is actually not that hardyou tend to use as least three conection points at an one time, ie two hands one leg, two legs one hand, its more about flexablitly then strength and knowing how to grap with the legs, really not much harder then climbing a ladder, a rope to climb is harder cause it lacks the leverage, its to flexable and you need real strength.

fyi I'm over two hundred punds and can dance on a pole , its truelly not that hard.

Theres a gentelmens club down south of us about 45 minutes, they offer pole dancing lessons on thursday evnings, so want to give it a try!!*l*

Be careful where you decide to go, dear. I may be biased but when I think of pole dancing classes at a gentlemen's club I don't feel like it would be very safe. See if they have any accreditation to teach pole dancing!! And check out the link I posted that lists pole studios by state if you are in the US - they are all accredited. There are a lot of opportunities for injury in pole dancing if the teacher isn't careful to teach you properly. Another thing for anyone interested in buying a pole is to make sure you use a REAL pole (aka not one you buy from Spencers, or a plastic one, etc..) The only places I know of that sell them are X-Pole and Platinum Stages - check them out online. Not cheap to buy, but worth the money.

Here's why I bring up these points.

POLE FAIL-

Mmkay, I have read the posts and I have to say I have always had a bit of a negative impression of pole dancers. I want to be open minded and learn from this thread though! What I am finding hard to understand is where the actual 'dancing' itself (in it's artistic form) occurs. How is a 'pole dancer' different from a 'stripper' in a gentlemans club?

I would certainly like to learn how to do this, as I have a wedding looming and definitely think this is something I would like to do in the privacy of my home, but otherwise... I do find it a bit risque for my taste.  ;)

Edit: Also... how on earth is this making it past the PG13 sign?!

Did you check out the video links mash? They will do much more to answer your questions than I can. Strip dancing can have pole dancing in it, but pole dancing tends to be more about being sexy than slutty ( and I am borderlining the pg right now). But poling is more gymnastic dance. If you want to see gymnastic poling, see the first video. If you want to see more dancing see the second video. It just depends on the dancers style. Though I will admit poling did most likely (I can't say for fact) start in a gentleman's club.

HOLY HELL! I just watched that first video.... good heavens! I've danced ballet and am starting lyrical and I cannot imagine the

amount of strength those moves require! I must say, I'm impressed!! I love the second video for it's artistic quality, if you

forget the pole is there, it is actually very similar to lyrical dance. I think you've changed my mind! I'm still not fond of

gentlemans clubs, and I won't say that I appreciate the pole dancing that is in strip clubs, but the artistic sort that is soft

and seductive is just beautiful!

Thank you for actually watching the vids Mash. Words just cannot get across what those videos can no matter how hard I try.

And I agree, I am not all about the gentleman's club- tis, as you said, a bit too risqué for me.
