Demystifying the Song

Is it possible that you're all right/wrong?  I think that Singing was a talent (or skill, whatever), and that there are certain songs that they would sing.  I don't think you could just start singing dee bop a loo bop beeeeeeee and all of a sudden flowers start dancing.  However, at this point there might be "a Song" that they will find that initiates the skill of "Singing".  It is possible that a LOT of Aiel and Tinkers have the ability to sing, but don't have ANY of the multiple songs.  Sometime in the next books, they will find A song, and it will lead to the ability being manifested again, possibly on a wide scale.  So yes, there could be both "a Song" and "Singing" (as a talent).  Thats my take on it anyways.

I would be inclined to think Singing must be a latent talent in a fair number of Aiel. They're fairly inbred, you know. They really don't take strays like Tigraine in very often.

I would be a bit perturbed, however, if it occurred in Twilight fashion - the Talent begind to recur because of the external circumstances...

Haven't we already seen Loial Sing, with the predictable results?  I mean, he was singing, and he grew stuff.  That's what singing in the AOL did, right?  So maybe the tinkers, Aiel, and Ogier need to get together and chat?

I doubt Singing is a Talent,

1. if Ogier are involved.

2. if the singers were ordinary folk. Charn's grandson mentions that his voice was judged to be deep enough by the women, not by channelers (AS). He also failed the AS tests, so he couldn't channel.

3. if the 'hole' ter'angreal doesn't require channeling. Aviendha does say that, doesn't she? There have been other ter'angreal that do not require channeling.

4. as Talents, while common in certain groups, wouldn't be so common as to be a race's preserve.

As to why non-Aiel weren't involved in Seed Singing, perhaps it has to do with training the voice. Years of practice, and knowing the right songs. There might not be a 'Song', but clearly there is a set of special songs, not just some random singing.

I have always thought the song Mat brought back with him was the song.

hahaha, that would be sweet

but im going to have to say no.

Thats from the memories the FInns planted in him.

They are from the Trolloc Wars - Hawkwing era.

The "song" has been missing since AoL.

Then what did Loial sing in TEOTW?  It grew shit.  That's what singing was called, and what it did.  How is it different?

There is a song...The Ogier Can sing to wood and they can't channel.

I think of the singing as a focus of energy.... as for the Aiel, I think that a lack of Male channelers put an end to the song.

I think they will find the song in Rhuidean.

Every Clan Chief and Wise One has heard the song, it could be possible to throw a Tinker into the glass columns and hope theres enough old Aiel blood in him for it to work.
